Job Title: Custodial and Maintenance Technician Position Purpose: To perform general cleaning, custodial, and maintenance functions at the assigned school buildings, offices, classrooms, facilities, and related areas. Supervisor: Superintendent or Principal Essential Job Duties: 1. Serves as custodian at assigned school site(s); performs general cleaning and custodial work as well as routine semi-skilled maintenance work in support of school site operations. 2. Cleans classrooms, restrooms, kitchen, multipurpose rooms, offices, buildings, and related facilities. 3. Sweeps, mops, strips, scrubs, waxes, and polishes floors. 4. Vacuums and shampoos rugs and carpets. 5. Dusts bookcases and shelves. 6. Wipes/cleans desks, chairs, tables, etc. 7. Empties and cleans trash and recycle receptacles, moves recycle receptacles at street for service provider. 8. Cleans window class and drinking fountains. 9. Picks up papers and debris; cleans walkways and entrances. 10. Ensures security of assigned areas, locks and unlocks doors, windows, and gates. 11. Inspects school buildings, facilities, playgrounds, and related areas for vandalism and safety. 12. Observes and reports the need for major maintenance repairs. 13. Confers with administrator and school staff regarding custodial/maintenance assignments and problems. 14. Responds to emergency cleanups, and repairs including hazardous spills and bodily fluids. 15. Performs general grounds keeping duties including mowing the lawn, irrigation repair, tree limb trimming, and other needs as they arise. 16. Performs semi-skilled maintenance, repair and adjustments to buildings, fixtures, furniture, carpet, and equipment. Reports on conditions and coordinates with contractors for repairs that are beyond abilities. 17. Cleans/repairs water fountains and related fixtures. 18. Performs minor plumbing and electrical work such as unplugging clogged toilets/drains, replacing ballasts, electrical sockets, light fixtures, switches and blown fuses. 19. Repairs and adjusts door closures. 20. Installs, inspects, maintains, and repairs playground equipment. 21. Replaces broken windows and repairs minor roof leaks.
22. Performs routine painting of interior/exterior walls, ceilings and trim. 23. Maintains custodial equipment. 24. Coordinates with Business Manager for ordering maintenance and custodial supplies. 25. Maintain an organized supply closet and maintenance shed. 26. Maintain tools, equipment, and supplies in a safe and clean fashion. 27. Operates equipment with skill, safety, and efficiency. 28. Performs major cleanup and repairs/upgrades over school vacation periods. 29. Lubricates/oils locks, hinges and other movable hardware. 30. Changes filters and belts on air handling units. 31. Transport school vehicles and equipment to and from repair facilities. 32. Work professionally and positively with students, staff, vendors, and community members. 33. Use personal protection equipment (goggles, gloves, masks, etc.) as necessary. 34. Performs related duties as required. Specific Qualifications: 1. Valid California Driver s License 2. High School Diploma or equivalent 3. Ability to take and pass materials safety, pest management, and other training courses. Minimum Knowledge, Skill, and Ability 1. Knowledge of: a. Modern cleaning methods, tools, and equipment b. Basic building and construction trades maintenance to include basic electrical, plumbing, heating, carpentry, and mason repairs. c. Safe operations and usage of building trade tools and equipment, including personal protection equipment (goggles, gloves, masks, etc.). 2. Skill and ability to: a. Safely use and operate a variety of hand tools, power tools, and equipment for custodial and building maintenance purposes. b. Safely use cleaning materials. c. Understand and follow oral and written communications. d. Effectively communicate in both oral and written forms. e. Perform basic mathematical computations using addition, subtraction, multiplication and division. f. Perform semi-skilled maintenance and repair work on building, fixtures and equipment. g. Effectively maintain the security of assigned areas. h. Meet the physical requirements necessary to safely and effectively perform required duties.
i. Establish and maintain effective work relationships with those contracted in the performance of required duties.
