THE CREATIVE FUTURE OF WORK Message from the CCER Chair and Executive Director Dear Friends and Colleagues, The Creative Future of Work is awaiting us all, and here at the Catholic Commission for Employment Relations (CCER), we re aiming to help employers stay ahead of the game. Over 5-6 September 2013, the biennial CCER Conference will provide a forum for employers to begin the conversation about the challenges that await us in our future workplaces and to discover how innovation and creativity are helping others to lead the way. The event will be a unique opportunity to meet with future thinkers from business, the arts, public service, science and education as they debate, workshop and provide insight on how emerging trends in management, developments in behavioural sciences and opportunities in digital technology are enhancing productivity and inspiring change in their approaches to work. CCER CONFERENCE 2013, 5 6 SEPTEMBER NOVOTEL SYDNEY, BRIGHTON BEACH s Kathryn Greiner Disruptive Innovation Kathryn Greiner (AO) began her working life in Social Welfare and Education and over the course of her career has held a number of leadership positions in the corporate sector, government bodies and not-forprofit organisations. Her diverse resume includes Directorships for Pacific Power, John Singleton Advertising and the Financial Planning Association. She has also served as Chair of Bio Technology Capital and Australian Hearing. Kathryn has held a number of active roles with not-for-profit organisations including Director of Bell Shakespeare Company and Chair of Sydney Peace Prize Foundation. A former Councillor on the City of Sydney, member of Gonski review panel and Chair of the NSW Ministerial Advisory Committee on Ageing, Ms Greiner s session will provide a fantastic opportunity to hear how her extensive experience has informed her thoughts on the future of work across sectors. As current Chair of Loreto Kirribilli School Council, she will also explore the dual challenge of skilling students for a workforce that includes an increasing number of older workers and the importance of encouraging Disruptive Innovation in the employment space. Kevin Wheeler International speaker Future Workforce Trends Kevin Wheeler is a consultant, writer, university lecturer and globally sought-after speaker on anticipated trends of the future workforce. Founder of the Australasian Talent Conference and The Future of Talent Institute his research provides organisations with early insights into employment trends, demographics, workforce attitudes, organisational structures and new technologies. His not-to-miss session will delve into the characteristics of the star candidate in 2020, examine how baby boomers are adapting to the changing world of work and identify the important trends that employers should take notice of today, to help them get the most out of tomorrow s workforce. David McRaney International speaker Why We Are Unaware of How Unaware We Are David McRaney is a journalist, blogger and author of the smash hit book You Are Not So Smart. The book, which evolved from McRaney s wildly popular blog and went on to hit number 2 on the UK bestseller list, mixes popular psychology and trivia to uncover how research over the past 30 years has transformed the way we understand ourselves. It collects more than 46 lies we tell ourselves every day in a bid to illuminate our tendency for irrational thinking and help us outsmart our not-so-smart brains. This session will provide a fun and fascinating insight into our own minds, the unifying nature of psychology and the importance of self-awareness in our everyday lives. Dr. Suzy Green Applied Positive Psychology in Organisations The science of Positive Psychology is now over ten years old and merging with fields such as Neuroscience, Medicine, Education, Economics and Business. Dr Suzy Green is a registered Clinical and Coaching Psychologist, and a pioneer in the complementary fields of Coaching Psychology and Positive Psychology. She will explore how Applied Positive Psychology can be used within the workplace to improve productivity and fulfilment by identifying and nurturing employees highest talents. Her presentation will highlight specific work practices to enable you to apply these theories day to day and help to promote transformational leadership. Lyndon Terracini Creative Leadership Lyndon Terracini has lived a performer s life, performing in opera houses around the world before retiring from the stage to run the Queensland Music Festival (2000 2005), the Brisbane Festival (2006 2009) and since 2009, Opera Australia. As a business leader in the Arts, his experience provides a unique insight into how managers can allow creativity to flourish while maintaining control, and the importance of flexibility and freedom within the context of defined boundaries. Lyndon s presentation will explore what leaders might look like in the creative future, and how to foster a productive and creative partnership between a leadership team and its people. 1
