As far as I know, Phil and Jacquelyn Johnson are the only members that have damage from the flood waters. I spoke with Phil and offered our assistance to help in any way we can. Of course, it will probably be a few weeks before the water level is down enough to be able to get into the house. If you know of anyone else that may need assistance, please let me know. LAST CALL FOR MERIT MARK INFORMATION!! Email your time spent and type of activity (landing cleanup, event planning/
preparation, event participation, etc.) for ANY Long Bay Power Squadron function to me to insure you get credit towards your Merit Mark. Times should include travel time to and from the activity. All it takes is 10 hours to earn your Merit Mark! Just a reminder that we continue to look for fresh ideas and new talent. Do you enjoy computer work? Maybe you d like to be our web master. How about taking pictures? You can serve as a photographer on one of our cruises or at a public function. Do you like to write? Why not share a boating experience by writing an article for the Fore n Aft. How about making sure your charts are accurate by participating in the Co-Op Charting Program? These are just a few ways to get involved without being on the Executive Committee (Bridge). Always remember, the more you put into it, the more you will get out of it. LBPS is successful and moving forward because of its dedicated and enthusiastic members. If you have any questions, concerns, or recommendations, I can be reached at: 843-668-4267 (H) or 724-875-1042 (C) or at davedubarr@hotmail.com. Thank you everyone for all you are doing! As your Long Bay Sunshine Lady, I would like to send a bit of sunshine to anyone in our Squadron who could use some cheering up. In order for me to do this I need your help. Please let me know if you hear of someone in need. Mary Lou Gienopie, mlgienopie@yahoo.com 2

BOATING SAFETY = SAFE BOATING From Executive Officer Gary Laser As I sat on the back of my boat this summer and watched the weekend boat traffic, it surprised me how many unsafe acts I saw. There were children riding without a PFD on an open bow; there was excessive speed and loud radios blaring, and people going out the channel in stormy weather and high waves. Most boaters try to be safe, but fall short due to lack of safety classes and boating education. The following page contains the 2017 Executive Summary provided by the U.S. Coast Guard. Don t be a statistic! Let USPS be your guide. Take advantage of the Long Bay Power Squadron s educational training for safety, handling, and navigation. 4

Boating Activities By Boating Activities Chair - Lt/C Rhonda L. Hardee, JN This pains me to have to write this article when so many of my family, friends, neighbors, and some of you are living a nightmare with the flooding that is occurring as a result of Hurricane Florence. Please know that you are in my prayers. The members of Long Bay Power Squadron are family! We are here with you in the good times, and please know that we are here for you in these tough times also. We just need to know how we can help. Unfortunately, Florence cancelled our Kayaking event. Early on, we had 23 people that were signed up just to kayak. That didn t count those of you that were going to join us for lunch. With the flooding in Horry and Georgetown County, that was quite possibly the last event until the Change of Watch. We are also at a standstill with the Christmas Regatta to see how fast Conway is able to recover from all this. Please check our Facebook page for notifications and updates. March 8-10, 2019 I know it seems like a long way away, but we are hosting the District 26 Spring Conference in the beginning of the year. I am still looking for volunteers to assist with the Conference. You don t have to be a social butterfly or a front-line person. We need volunteers for behind the scenes also. Please contact me at 843-902-8653 to let me know what you would like to assist with. If you would love to help but don t know where you can assist, contact me and we can discuss where there is help needed. Thank you in advance for your help. Praying for everyone, Rhonda Surf Water promotions is a new signs and banners, etc. Check out their website at www.surfwaterpromotions.com or check their Facebook page.
