March 29, 2018 150 Pierce Street, Franklin Township, NJ 08873 TEECS Students Invited to State House Annex On March 26 th, students from TEECS were invited to share their STEM projects at the NJ State House as part of NJ STEM Month. The High School Team of Tejaswini Ashok, Ujjayi Pamidigantam and Srikar Sadhu developed an innovative stress band, called Carpal Band, to proactively monitor pressure applied on the median nerve as high compression can lead to an acute problem called carpal tunnel syndrome. They also participated in the AWISNJ Entrepreneurship and Innovation Challenge and submitted a business plan to commercialize the Carpel Band. Their project has been shortlisted for the final round by the selection committee. The Middle School Team of Lalith Ashok, Udgita Pamidgantam and Sriya Sadhu developed an innovative eye-testing device, called Visible Tech, for detecting color vision deficiency (CVD). CVD is a growing problem in children due to excessive usage of electronics like phones and tablets. They also received an honorable mention award in the Toshiba Exploravision contest. IMPORTANT CHANGES TO SCHOOL CALENDAR Earth Day April 20th TEECS is committed to making TEECS and the Earth a better place. Some of the activities we have planned include: Spending more time outdoors Planting trees Hanging up No Idling signs to encourage drivers to do their part in not polluting the Earth Kindergarten will be hosting a solar cookout Students will not use plastic utensils on this day at school (please send reusable utensils with your students for lunch) 2 May 14 TH Early Dismissal, Field Day at Colonial Park, Spring Concert in evening May 21 ST Full Day of School (previously scheduled as Early Dismisal) June 20 TH Last day of School TEECS Students Participate in Intel Science and Engineering Fair High School students Ujjayi Pamidigantam and Srikar Sadhu participated in the Intel Science and Engineering Fair (ISEF) organized by Nokia Bell Labs and North Jersey Regional Science Fair. Ujjayi Pamidigantam, Grade 9, submitted a project called Tacit Communicator and received the Freshman Award. Srikar Sadhu, Grade 9, submitted a proect called EARTELL Helps You Hear Better and received the Freshman Award, the 3 rd prize in Biomedical Engineering category and the Karen Kranz Memorial Award. IMPORTANT CLUB INFORMATION Clubs have now started and cannot be added or canceled for the rest of the year. This Club period will include March through June. The last day of Clubs is June 8 th. Extended Care can be added or canceled at the end of any month. Students must be enrolled on a monthly basis. Changes to Extended Care for the month of April (adding or canceling) must be emailed to the Main Office by March 31 st. Any family with an outstanding balance at the end of any month will be removed from Clubs the following month and student(s) sent home per the dismissal instructions on file. Please write your family ID on all checks. Please note we do not accept cash.
