University of Evansville Formula SAE 2008 SPONSORSHIP PROPOSAL Department of Mechanical Engineering University of Evansville 1800 Lincoln Avenue Evansville, IN 47722 Phone: 812-479-2651 Fax: 812-488-2780

Society of Automotive Engineers University of Evansville Chapter Fall 2007 1800 Lincoln Ave. Evansville, IN 47722 (812) 479-2651 Telephone (812) 488-2780 Fax formulasae@csserver.evansville.edu Dear Prospective Sponsor, Each year a team of University of Evansville engineering students design and build a car for the international Formula competition sponsored by the Society of Automotive Engineers. Next year s competition will be held in May in Detroit, Michigan, the center for automotive engineering in the United States. It will feature one hundred and thirty teams from colleges and universities from around the world. This is the final test for student design and innovation. Every aspect of the cars will be tested: fabrication, performance, alternative fuels, creativity, imagination, and the use of cutting edge automotive technology. These cars are small formula-style cars which are judged in three different categories: static inspection and engineering design, solo performance trials, and high-performance track endurance. They use small high performance engines up to 610cc which can be further modified within certain rules. Community support and sponsorships are essential for the success of this exciting educational and automotive opportunity which is why we are writing to you. We know you are approached by many worthwhile organizations, and we appreciate your consideration and support. Corporations and individuals throughout the United States and the State of Indiana can participate as sponsors for the 2008 University of Evansville Formula SAE Team. We are one of only two returning Indiana teams in this competition! There is no minimum amount for sponsorship, and sponsorships need not be monetary. In-kind contributions, donations of supplies, tools, talents, trailer(s), painting, shop work and discounts are invaluable resources! U of E SAE is a student-run organization striving to educate engineering students in Land, Sea, and Air Mobility, providing valuable experience to members through student projects, guest lecturers, networking, design, and competition projects on a national level with other collegiate teams from universities across North America.

As a sponsor, your company is recognized throughout the year by our own SAE chapter, at community and university events, and festivals attended by thousands in the Southern Indiana area. National and international recognition is accomplished through SAE International in its event program, on its website www.sae.org, and on our own University of Evansville website http://csserver.evansville.edu/~formulasae/. Better still, your company name and logo are advertised on the car itself, pictured in local events and media, and at the international competition. Sponsorship advertisement levels are listed on our website and below, though all incentives are negotiable depending on what we can do for you: from a logo on our website or on our car, to driving of the car and special promotions using the car. We will do whatever will serve you best. Your contribution to our 501(c)(3) charitable organization will be used for many aspects of this project. Contributions are tax deductible! In addition to activities and curriculum that will enrich our program for students from all majors and expertise, all contributions shall be managed by the University of Evansville and distributed solely to the Formula SAE team, Aces Racing. It is only because of the generosity of sponsors that Aces Racing has the ability to produce a competitive car for competition, give real world, hands on skills to college students in a vast array of professions, and have something to be proud of during their collegiate experience. For more information contact: Tamara Esche te9@evansville.edu (812) 454-1035 Thank you for your support!

WHAT IS UE FORMULA SAE? UE Formula SAE is a diverse team of talented engineering students determined to get the most out of their educational experience. Through passion and commitment, students collaborate as a team to design and build a formula style open-wheeled race car that competes in the annual Formula SAE competition in Detroit, Michigan. Each member contributes his or her skills in a specialized area of interest, such as engine, chassis, suspension, electronics, controls, or body. A dynamic team leader works to synchronize all of these efforts and create a unique vehicle that will proudly represent the University of Evansville in a field of 130 universities from around the world. In 2007, the third consecutive year of competition, the team gained 15 positions from 2006 to finish 61 st overall. In the presentation event, the team finished in the Top 30. In the skid-pad and design events, the team finished in the Top 40 teams. UE Formula SAE is poised to improve upon these results in 2008 as it continues to transform students into well-rounded engineers. WHAT IS FORMULA SAE? Formula SAE (Society of Automotive Engineers) is an annual, international competition between engineering students that began in 1981, involving the design, construction, and dynamic testing of an open-wheeled race car. It has grown from six schools to over 130 participating universities. As with all formula racing, there are numerous restrictions on the design of the Formula SAE vehicle to ensure that the knowledge, ingenuity, and imagination of competing students will be challenged. Most design restrictions are aimed at driver safety and team parity, the former being of paramount importance. To this end, the cars must meet strict front impact and roll-over STATIC EVENTS Design Cost Analysis Marketing Presentation DYNAMIC EVENTS Skidpad Acceleration Autocross Endurance & Fuel standards, and engine intake is limited by the use of an intake restrictor. To keep the competition fresh, and allow younger students to gain as many benefits as possible, the rules also require that no car be campaigned in more than one competition year.

WHY SPONSOR UE FORMULA SAE? Supporting UE Formula SAE supports education and the development of students; such contributions demonstrate corporate social responsibility and help to attract the most talented young engineers to your company. Your support of UE Formula SAE gives engineering students the opportunity to reach their full potential as an undergraduate. It also gives these dedicated students a necessary edge over others competing for careers in automotive engineering. Additionally, your support provides UE Formula SAE with the resources necessary to acquire and implement the latest technologies in the engineering field. MARKETING BENEFITS We greatly appreciate each and every sponsor s donation. The different levels of sponsorship and corresponding benefits are outlined on the following page. Along with recognition on our website and media coverage around the time of competition, UE Formula SAE attends a number of events where your logo will prominently be displayed.
