benefits - knowledge and know-how transfer With the aid of individual funding of e.g. doctorate students and researcher groups, appropriate research and development topics are handled in order to promote the transfer of technology and knowledge, to found companies from the universities and to qualify graduates and prepare them for professional practice. Matthias Winker 11

benefits - knowledge and know-how transfer A key feature and benefit of the qualification offers is the close interlocking of universities and companies; research activities take place in the companies and supervision in the universities. These type of funding offers really generates an attractive environment for highly qualified personnel and does help to prevent the migration of these employees. Matthias Winker 12

benefits - knowledge and know-how transfer Within the scope of model projects, innovative projects for the development of the interface between tertiary educational institutions and business which are expected to generate a stimulus for the regional labour market, are realised. The strengthening of human capital also includes aspects aimed at allowing the networking of science and professional practice, with a view to traditional markets in the MEE states. Matthias Winker 13

Results Human capital in the Free State of Saxony is reinforced in order that the formation of clusters and poles of innovation are supported by an adequate availability of skilled workers, thus creating a stimulus for more and better jobs. http://biosaxony.com/ http://www.silicon-saxony.de Matthias Winker 14

benefits - improvement of the performance of the universities The necessary critical mass of highly qualified skilled workers is promoted due the networking of tertiary educational, research and technology institutions as well as business in research projects. Individual grants are especially well fitting for this purpose. Matthias Winker 15

benefits - improvement of the performance of the universities Students receive competences in special programmes to encourage entrepreneurial spirit and participation in international R&D projects. This will also promote a greater understanding of the European research and education sector. Matthias Winker 16
