Response Team The building administrator will appoint at least four other members to the Response Team, in order of who is in charge should the building administrator be unavailable or incapacitated. When the code is used, the Response Team will report to a predetermined site to find out what the situation is and what to do. This site should not be the office area. *NOTE: The code is also a signal to alert teachers to keep students in their rooms (locked) until further notice. *NOTE: The building administrator must determine how they will handle students who are with a Response Team member when a code is used. Students should not be left alone in an emergency situation.

LOCK DOWN PROCEDURES A lockdown is a protective action employed to safeguard students, faculty, staff, and visitors where there is an imminent threat approaching the campus, or in the school. The following announcements are made to inform staff or a lockdown situation. CODE RED 1. Students and staff, we are in code red. Please lockdown now. a. Everyone is to stay where they are. b. Classroom teachers are to: notify the parents who have students on the bus. I. Quickly glance outside the room to direct any students or staff members in the hall into your room immediately. II. Lock your door. III. Lower or close any blinds. IV. Place students against the wall, so that the intruder cannot see them looking in the door. Look for the "Safe Corner." V. Turn out the lights and computer monitors. VI. Keep students quiet. Note: All staff members should locate and hold onto their roll book prior to turning out the lights. This will aid in accounting for all students should an evacuation be necessary. c. Physical education classes being held in the gym should move into a locker room, lock all doors, and find a safe area. d. Any students in the lunchroom should stay in the lunchroom, lock all doors and find a safe area. e. If students and teachers are outside the school building, they should stop, drop, and remain still. You will be directed where to relocate depending on the situation. f. If teachers and students are in the bathrooms, they should move to a stall, lock it and stand on the toilet. g. Anyone in the hallway should move to the closest classroom immediately. h. Cafeteria workers/support staff should stay in the area they are in, secure the doors, and turn out the lights. i. Students and staff in the library should remain in the library. Librarians should lock the doors, turn out the lights, and locate a safe area. 2. Stay in safe areas until directed by law enforcement officers or an administrator to move or evacuate. Never open doors during a lockdown, even in the event of a fire alarm. For further directives, law enforcement officers and administrators will have keys to open the doors or announcements

will be made over the intercom. 3. An administrator will signal all personnel if the lockdown has been lifted. 4. If an evacuation occurs, all persons/classrooms will be directed by a law enforcement officer or administrator to a safe location. Once evacuated from the building, teachers should take roll to account for all students present in class. Administrators will divide an keep in communication with radios or cellphones. CODE YELLOW "Students and staff, we are in a code yellow, community lockdown." This means there is something in the community that poses a threat to the school, i.e. bank robbery, shots fired, police chase, et. All outside activities should cease and students/staff should move into the building. All outer doors must be locked and lockdown signs hung on entrance doors. Students can move within a building if needed. CODE GREEN: "Student's and Staff, we are now back to code green. Please return to your normal activities." The lockdown is over and normal school activities are resumed. A mandatory staff meeting will be held at the close of the school day after a Code Red incident. A staff meeting after a Code Yellow will be at the principal's discretion.

Bus Accidents Bus Accident Involving Major Damage or Personal Injury. 1. Bus Route. The driver will call the office to indicate problem indicating if there are any injuries. 2. Office will call 911. Description of accident, location and injuries. 3. IF OFFICE DOES NOT RESPOND- ASK FOR ASSISTANCE FROM ANYONE WITH YOUR TWO-WAY RADIO. 4. Parents will be notified of bus accident and assistance in on its way. 5. The driver will keep the students calm. If injuries, the driver will take care of injuries to the best of his/her ability prior to the ambulance arriving. 6. The driver will keep the students on the bus, unless there is a reason to evacuate. 7. The driver should check the students roll call list to make sure that there is an accurate list of students involved in the accident. 8. IF BUS DRIVER IS INCAPACITATETD TO FOLLOW ABOVE DIRECTIONS, make sure that older students are informed of procedures early in fall of of things to do in case of accident. A copy will be placed in your binders. 9. Crisis Intervention Team may be asked to assist with student feelings for recovery. (Crisis Intervention Information kept in each instructor binder and a copy is kept in the Superintendent's book shelves.) Serious Injuries Serious Medical Emergency 1. Call 911. 2. Assign staff person to help the injured students or adult. 3. Administer first aid in accordance with proper first aid protocol. 4. Determine all pertinent information regarding the medical emergency. 5. Notify parent or guardian and inform them where the student will be taken. 6. Assign a staff person to ride along with the injured students or adult. 7. If more than one student is injured, make sure they are identified correctly by writing their names on a piece of paper and attach to clothing. 8. Inform the superintendent. Less Serious Medical Emergency 1. Make sure the student or staff member is as comfortable as possible. 2. Administer first aid in accordance with proper first aid protocol. 3. Notify the parents as soon as possible. Person in charge should wait for instructions from parents before proceeding further. There should be a definite understanding that the responsibility for arranging medical care rests wit the parents, not the school. 4. If the parents cannot be notified after reasonable attempts, call the emergency contact person chosen by the parents. This information is in the school office. 5. If either can be contacted, assign a staff person to go with the injured person

to the emergency room or clinic using a school vehicle or by calling the ambulance. 6. No student will be dismissed from school until a parent or person designed by the parent in times of medical emergency is contacted. Food Poisoning Procedure for Reporting Suspected Foodborne Illness for Schools Definition: A foodborne outbreak is two or more persons who experiences illness after ingestion of common food, or one case of botulism or chemical poisoning. If a school suspects a foodborne illness, the school should: 1. Save any suspected food, label and refrigerate. 2. Contact the Division of Disease Control, North Dakota Department of Health Telephone 800-472-2180 or 701-328-2378 If possible, provide the following information: *Brief description of the situation. *Description of Symptoms. *Date and time of onset of symptoms. *Name(s) of ill person(s). *Address, phone number of all persons. *Other information available (other ill persons, possible food sources, etc.) *Samples collected (suspect foods). *Hospitalization status, physicians. Death or Suicide 1. If the death/suicide occurs on school property during the school day or at a school sponsored event, call 911 and secure the area. 2. The administration will determine if the Crisis Team needs to be contacted. 3. The principal will obtain any available facts regarding the incident. The facts will be given to the 911 response team to aid in their investigation. 4. The Crisis Team, consisting of the superintendent as coordinator, the principal, district counselors and the director of student services will work together to: a. Contact the family and offer support in suggesting and making any necessary arrangements. b. Develop a plan of action that takes into consideration the wishes of the family and the needs of the school. Notify schools with other affected students in their buildings. c. Notify all staff. A meeting should be scheduled as soon as possible. *Inform staff of the facts; stress the importance of facts vs. rumors. *Provide suggestions for dealing with the loss in the classroom. *Arrange for Crisis Team to visit classes / activities of the deceased. *Discuss need for a debriefing staff meeting at the end of the day. d. Establish an area of grief counseling for groups and individuals. e. Prepare a written statement of facts/ information about the tragedy for

teachers to read in the classroom at the appointed time. Students should be cautioned about speaking to news media while grieving. f. Discuss the need for an evening meeting with parents and send a letter with a list of emergency services / phone numbers. g. Follow the I-94 West Consortium Crisis Intervention Manual, use the handouts as needed. The Administrator's role: a. Determine if a crisis exists. b. Determine his/her role with the media. c. Set the tone and direction. d. Contact school board members. e. Keep the response team informed. f. Contact the parents of the deceased or injured students. g. Coordinate any school involvement with the clergy and the funeral director. The Principal's role: a. Remain highly visible. b. Communicate with the response team as to how and when the media will be addressed. c. Address parents when warranted. The Counselor's role: a. Call on outside resources when necessary. b. Work with the administration to determine logistics of counseling. c. Coordinate counseling activities. d. Contact parents when appropriate.

Violence and Crime Riot 1. Call 911. Tell the operator there is a riot, giving the location of rioters. If possible, stay on the line until police arrive or until the 911 operator tells you to disconnect. 2. Alert the building Response Team using identified codes. 3. Notify building administrator or designee. 4. Classroom teachers are to secure students in their classrooms. Keep all students inside locked classrooms until further notice. 5. If the riot can be contained in one section of the building, students should be removed from exposed areas and rooms near the riot to safer parts of the building, with approval and/or assistance of police. Students outside the building should be protected. 6. As soon as possible, and only if it can be accomplished safely, and employee should be directed outside the building to warn visitors of the danger. Assault 1. Call 911. Tell the operator there has been a sexual assault inside the school and his/her last known location. If possible, stay on the line until police arrive or until the 911 operator tells you to disconnect. 2. Alert the building Response Team using identified codes. 3. Comfort the individual. 4. Notify parents of incident and inform that emergency personnel have been notified. 5. Classroom teachers are to secure students in their classrooms. Keep all students inside locked classrooms until further notice. 6. As soon as possible, and only if it can be accomplished safely, an employee should be directed outside the building to warn visitors of the danger. Intruder(s)- Violence in school: 1. Call 911. Briefly describe the danger and assistance is needed. Describe location. 2. LOCK DOWN ORDERED BY COMMUNICATION VIA INTERCOM OR TELEPHONE. (Signal: LOCKDOWN. All individuals are to remain in their classrooms until further notice, this is a LOCKDOWN. 3. If Lock Down is ordered; lock door, keep students away from door and windows, close windows, pull shades. If furniture is available, use for cover, lie flat and cover head, remain quiet. Calm students. Backpacks, books, coats are to remain at student's desks. 3. If intruder is not in your classrrom, reamin in classroom until further information or directions. Intruder- Violence in classroom 1. Get students out of room/area if possible. 2. Notify office of intruder-- in classroom.

3. LOCKDOWN ORDERED BY COMMUNICATION VIA INTERCOM OR TELEPHONE. (Signal: LOCKDOWN, All individual are to remain in their clasrroms until further notice, this is a LOCKDOWN. 4. If student's can't leave, order them to use furniture for cover if permissible. 5. Make no attempt to disarm perpetrator unless he/she willingly gives up weapon. 6. Talk in a calm way to the gunman. Keep his attention on you. Buy time until law enforcement arrives. 7. Do as the gunman asks. 8. Observe details of gunman, weapon, and what he touches. 9. If gunman flees, do not pursue. 10. Crisis Intervention Team may be asked to assist with student feelings for recovery. (Crisis Intervention Information kept in each instructor binder and a copy is kept in the Superintendt's book shelves.) Hostage: 1. Call 911. Tell the operator there is an armed person inside the school and his/her last known location. If possible, stay on the line until police arrive or until the 911 operator tells you to disconnect. 2. Alert the building Response Team using identified codes. 3. Notify all teachers of the emergency situation. DON'T USE THE INTERCOM. 4. Notify the administration. 5. If the hostage taker can be contained in one section of the building, students should be moved from exposed areas (i.e. windows or open areas) and rooms near the armed person to safer parts of the building, with approval and/or assistance of police. Students outside the building should be protected and not allowed to enter the building. Violent Actions: 1. Call 911. Tell the operator there is an armed person inside the school and his/her last known location. If possible, stay on the line until police arrive or until the 911 operator tells you to disconnect. 2. Alert the building Response Team using identified codes. 3. Notify building administrator or designee. 4. Notify all teachers of the emergency situation. DO NOT USE THE INTERCOM! Classroom teachers are to secure students in their classrooms. Keep all students inside locked classrooms until further notice. 5. If the armed person can be contained in one section of the building, students should be moved from exposed areas and rooms near the armed to safer parts of the building, with approval and/or assistance of police. Students outside the building should be protected and not allowed to enter the building until further notice. 6. As soon as possible, and only if it can be accomplished safely, an employee should be directed outside the building to warn visitors of the danger. Verbal Threats: 1. Notify building principal or designee. 2. Principal or designee will meet with the person(s) threatened and interview

him/her to gather all information. 3. Principal or designee will interview witness, if any. 4. Principal and law enforcement agent will interview the person identified as threatening to others. 5. Principal or designee will determine who to notify (i.e. parents, law enforcement). Neighborhood Threat: 1. Sheriff's Department to notify school. 2. School Personnel: School Alert-- Notification on Intercom that there is a LOCKDOWN. SPECIAL NOTE: EAST DOOR LOCKED a. Account for your students. b. LOCK DOWN. Lock your classroom doors. c. Close shades, if time appropriate. d. Get students to a safe part of your classroom. e. Keep students calm. f. Wait for further instructions. g. Be alert and ready for students to go to sheltered areas. Sheltered area may be Tornado Drill areas for safety, or instruction may be to evacuate building. Normal route for building evacuation will be to St. John's Parish Hall. 3. Crisis Management Team may be called to assist with student feelings for recovery. (Crisis Intervention Information kept in each instructor binder and a copy is kept in the Superintendent's book shelves.)

Student Welfare Missing or Runaway Students 1. Notify the administration. 2. Contact parents using the phone numbers provided at registration. 3. If the student is not located, the Police Department should be contacted and provided with a picture of the missing student. 4. Use information gathered from friends and others to help locate the student. 5. Contact any other guests that are working with the students. Unauthorized Removal of Students: 1. The Police Department should be contacted and provided with any information that will help them locate the student. 2. Notify the administration. 3. Contact the student's parents using the phone numbers provided. 4. Use information gathered from friends and others to help locate the student. 5. Contact any other agencies that are working with student. Suspected Child Abuse 1. File a report of suspected child abuse or neglect (SFN 960) with Morton County Social Services. 2. Notify building principal of report, if appropriate. Student Grievances 1. Follow the student grievance policy as located in the administration offices. 2. Notify the administration. 3. Students are asked to return to class and informed that noncompliance will be handled as truancy. 4. The Police Department should be contacted as needed to help with unruly students. 5. School officials would have the option of calling off the remainder of the day. Any time missed from school would be made up at a later date. Missing Student, Abduction: 1. Contact Main Office to report. 2. Contact parents or names on emergency list. 3. Contact Sheriff's Office. Call 911. 4. Lock doors to your classrooms. 5. Account for all your students. 6. Gather information from friends or others to assist in location. 7. Wait for further instructions. 8. Crisis Management Team may be called to assist with student feeling for recovery. (Crisis Intervention Information kept in each instructor binder and a copy is kept in the Superintendent's book shelves.) Cyber Threats 1. Investigate allegations. 2. Place student/s in a safe place. Call parents involved.

3. Call Sheriff's Department to investigate. Call 911. 4. Notify staff and school board members. 5. Notify parents of recipients of the threats. 6. Send memo to all parents of incident that was found: i.e. A file was found on the school's computer of a threatening manner. The school has notified the Sheriff's Department who is investigating the incident. 7. Periodic update will be sent as information and situation is resolved. 8. Crisis Intervention Team may be asked to assist with student feelings for recovery. (Crisis Intervention Information kept in each instructor binder and a copy is kept in the Superintendent's book shelves.)

Facility Emergencies Evacuation- Alternate Sites In the event of a disaster or emergency the administration may chose a school and arrange temporary shelter and/or transportation for students. Affected schools will be advised by the superintendent regarding which option to exercise: 1. Section off part of the school that is safe and move students and staff. 2. High school students with vehicles may be dismissed for a set time or until the next day. High School students without transportation will be housed at a prearranged location until transportation can be arranged. 3. If inclement weather or time of day makes a prolonged outdoor evacuation difficult, students may have to walk or be transported to an alternate site. 4. If district transportation is needed, the administration may be contacted to transport students to the designated alternate site. 5. Parents will be informed regarding when and where to pick up their children. Alternate Site: Contact Person: Work #: Home # Location of Keys: Fallen Aircraft If an aircraft falls near a school, follow these procedures. 1. Keep students and staff at a safe distance, upwind, in case of an explosion. (Note: A safe distance for a jet aircraft is a minimum of 400 yards.) 2. The school office will: Call 911 immediately. Notify the administration. 3. Appropriate communications will be made by the administration. Hazardous Materials Accident Chemical accidents of disastrous magnitude could include such things as tank truck accidents involving large quantities of toxic gases. Follow these steps. 1. Call 911. Describe situation. Sheriff and Ambulance Dept. needed. 2. Notify the office. 3. Notification to all building personnel/students. 4. Normal procedures would be to stay in building unless building is in jeopardy of the safest temporary existence. 5. Window and doors closed. Shut down Air Conditioning systems, Thermostats, and Breakers. 6. If anyone comes in contact with the chemical, remove the contaminated clothing and flush the area with cold running water for 15 minutes. 7. Crisis Intervention Team may be asked to assist with student feelings for

recovery. (Crisis Intervention Information kept in each instructor binder and a copy is kept in the Superintendent's book shelves.) Utility Emergencies-Gas Leak, Faulty Boiler, Possible Explosion, Etc. 1. Using Fire Alarm system. Evacuate building immediately. 2. Call 911. Fire Department, Sheriff's Department and Ambulance. Describe the situation and location. 3. Turn off main gas valve to building if appropriate. 4. Office should notify MDU of problem 701-456-0141. 5. If evaluation from Fire Drill setting is needed. Bomb Threat 1. Take information from phone call, attempt to get as much detail as you can. TAKE NOTES FOR LAW ENFORCEMENT PERSONNEL a. Record exact time of call and phone line. b. Write down exact words of threat. c. Prolong the conversation as long as possible. d. Identify background noises. e. Note distinguishing voice characteristics. f. Ask the caller 1. When is the bomb going to explode? 2. Where is it right now? 3. What does it look like? 4. What kind of bomb is it? 5. What will cause it to explode? 6. Did you place the bomb? 7. Why did you place a bomb? 8. If not, how do you know there is a bomb? 9. What is your address? 10. What is your name? 11. What is your phone number? g. Determine the caller's knowledge of the facility. h. Do not hang up the phone! Use another phone to call the police (911). 2. Notify administration. 3. Evacuate building immediately, using standard fire drill procedures. Note: Building administrators may have plans in addition to this emergency procedure. When possible, those plans should include an alternative site to take students to, as well as a reporting system so the supervisor knows everyone is out of the building. 4. Plan for evacuation. a. Evacuation is to be schedule and confirmed by the Sheriff's Department. Announcement of evacuation will be made on the intercom. All students

will go to St. John's Church-- Parish Hall. Students will not go to lockers or take backpacks to the Parish Hall. 5. Bomb Search Procedures a. Sheriff's Department will be in charge. b. For instructors: Make a quick visual sweep of your classroom. Ceiling, Walls, Floor, Doorway (inside and out). c. Don't move anything. If a suspicious object, report to administration. (Backpacks, coats, books are to stay at their desks.) 1. Instructors will be in charge of their class. Roll call to be taken at Parish Hall. 2. A plan of action will transpire after Law Enforcement survey the situation. 3. If school is dismissed early, buses and students will be excused from St. John's Parish Hall. Students will be excused to parents or other adults as directed by parents. 4. Sheriff's Department will give the All Clear Notification prior to anyone entering the building. Special Notes of Information 1. Bombs can be hidden in objects like briefcases, tool boxes, pipes and backpacks. 2. If you see an item of suspect, give location, description to administration who in turn give to Sheriff's Dept. 3. Staff should avoid turning off lights or closing doors or windows. 4. Teachers need to take grade book, roll sheet along to Parish Hall. 5. Do not reentry to building until declared safe by the Sheriff's Department. 6. Weather Emergencies Winter storm a. Students will not be allowed to leave the building unless approved by an authorized adult. The administrator shall ensure there is adequate supervision for students that must remain in school. b. Building administrators will report the number of students in attendance who will need to be provided with shelter. An accounting of all students shall be made. c. Contact parents of all students who we be retained at school to assure them of the safety and whereas outs of their children. In the event students become stranded on the roads in a school bus, the procedures will be as follows: a. The transportation dispatcher shall determine the exact location of the vehicle stalled. b. If radio communications with the stalled vehicle are open, the driver shall be given instructions and advised of rescue operations. c. The Morton County Emergency Management and/or the Sheriff's Department will be requested to assist in getting stranded persons to adequate shelter. d. Parents of stranded students will be kept informed by the bus dispatcher or school office regarding the safety of their children and the progress of the rescue operation. Flooding Flash Floods: This kind of flooding can result from extremely heavy and rapid rainfall in a brief period of time. If heavy rain occurs during school hours, students will not be released until approved by an authorized adult. Children must remain in school to avoid danger in flooded areas, downed power lines, poor street/sidewalk, visibility, etc. Tornado or Severe Storm To provide for the safest protection for our students, it is recommended that students be assembled in the interior hallways and basement of the school. Most injuries are to the head, so one of the recommended protective positions will be used in that of sitting on the floor, back to the wall, draw knees up toward face, and cover the back of the head with your hands. THE FOLLOWING AREAS WILL BE USED AS SAFETY AREAS: Grades K-1-2-3: Girl's locker room. Use the single door to the gym. East Door. KEEP THE LIGHTS ON WHEN MOVING THE STUDENTS TO THE LOCKER ROOM. (If there is an actual emergency, the lights will probably be available, or the emergency lights will be on to assist in the evacuation.) Grades 4-5-6: Boy's locker room. Use double doors to the gym, and follow west and north wall to the locker room. KEEP THE LIGHTS ON WHEN MOVING THE STUDENTS TO THE LOCKER ROOM. (If there is an actual emergency, the lights will probably be available, or the emergency lights will be on to assist in the evacuation.) Music: If elementary students are in the music room, take students downstairs to their

respective locker room. This included Jr. High band, grades 6 and 7, when meeting. Grades 7-12 Instructions: Each instructor is responsible to get students assembled and roll call taken, and to supervise their students. A. SHOP CLASSES - Boys Locker Room. B. MUSIC & COMPUTER/BUSINESS ED ROOMS - Girls locker room. C. ITV ROOM - Meet downstairs in the old building, using basement hallway. D. CLASSES IN THE OLD BUILDING - Room 411, 412, Library, Old Office are to assemble in the basement of old building, using the hallway. E. P.E. CLASSES IN THE GYM - Students in grades 7-12 that are in the gym are to assemble in the basement of old building, using the basement hallway. F. FCS, SOCIAL STUDIES AND SCIENCE ROOMS - Assemble students in the basement of old building. G. MATH, COMM. SKILLS AND ENGLISH ROOMS- Assemble students in the basement of old building. NOTE: Teachers will take roll call and report to their building principal. Please have absentees from your class ready for her to check with the master absentee sheet. Fire Drill Procedure K-12 IMPORTANT: On the first day of class, each instructor is to remind students of the School's Fire Drill Procedure as outlined below. 1. Use the following procedure for evacuating the building and accounting for students. a. Students are not to leave the classroom or study hall unless directed by the Instructor in charge. The person in charge must always determine what exit is safe to use. b. Pupils, teachers, and other employees must leave the building through the nearest safe and unobstructed exit. A sign has been posted in each classroom, grades 7-12, indicating the NORMAL Fire Exit Route. In the event that the NORMAL exit is blocked, calmly turn and head for the next nearest exit. MOST IMPORTANT-USE GOOD JUDGEMENT. c. Pupils must not be allowed to get their wraps or go back into the building unless permission is granted by the Fire Chief, Superintendent, or Principal. d. ALL PERSONNEL MUST LEAVE THE BUILDING. The only people allowed in the building are those designated to assist in putting out the fire. e. The instructor must immediately close all doors and windows, turn off lights when all students are out of the room. 2. To make it possible to account for everyone we will use the following procedure: a. All elementary students, K-6 will assemble to the south of the elementary building in an area designated by the Elementary Principal Grades: 6,4,2, and 1 will assemble on the east side of the side walk to the south entrance to the elementary building starting with grade 4 at approximately the middle of the block. Grades: Grade 5, Basic Skills/Speech, Grade 3, and Kindergarten will meet on the west side of the entrance sidewalk assembled in that order.

b. Students in grades 7-12 will meet on the east side of the building on the sidewalk across the street from the school, starting with grade 7 at the southwest corner of the block, ending the senior class assembled to the north by the Schneider apartments. c. Elementary students, grades 1-6 that are involved in P.E. and Music at the time of the drill are to report to their elementary class for roll call. Class is assembled south of the building. Use the shortest distance for evacuation. (Mr. Peterson and Miss Dahlen are responsible to escort students to the area designated by the elementary principal.) d. Each instructor is responsible for taking roll and should have class roll sheets available at all times. 1. Instructors in grades K-6, homeroom teachers are in charge of roll call. 2. Instructors in grades 7-12, the following assigned class is made: Grade 7 - Mrs. Reinbold Grade 8- Mrs. Heck Grade 9-Mrs. Kupcho Grade 10-Mr. Rolle Grade 11-Mr. Hochhalter Grade 12-Mr. Stokka NOTE: IMPORTANT- After each advisor, grades 7-12 has completed the roll call, the advisor is to report absences to the school secretary who will be standing at the east entrance of the building. e. The superintendent and principals will account for the teachers and other school personnel. f. STUDENTS ARE NOT TO BLOCK DRIVEWAY TO THE SCHOOL. NO FOOLING AROUND WILL BE TOLERATED DURING THE DRILLS. FIRE DRILLS ARE A VERY SERIOUS BUSINESS CONDUCTED TO ENSURE SAFE EVACUATION FROM THE BUILDING IN THE EVENT OF AN EMERGENCY. 3. Some do's and don't for quick reference. A. Do - Investigate if you see or smell smoke. B. Do- 1. Get students out if fire is suspected. 2. Sound fire alarm (Pull Stations are located throughout the building. 3. CALL 911: State location of fire. C. Do- Keep roll call sheet handy at all times. A copy will be posted on the faculty bulletin board. (PLEASE RETURN!!!). D. Do-Take roll call fast. E. Do-Instructors, 7-12, report your absentees to the school secretary immediately. F. Do- Help kids get ready for roll call. G. Do-Make room for the fire trucks and get to the school building. H. Do-Become familiar with the location of FIRE ALARAM STATIONS IN OUR SCHOOL. I. Do- PLEASE NOTE---- TURN OFF LIGHTS WHEN LEAVING THE ROOM. INSTRUCTORS SHOULD CHECK TO SEE THAT ENTRANCE DOORS TO THE BUILDING ARE ALSO CLOSED WHEN STUDENTS ARE OUT. J. Don't - Call the office for office personnel to investigate. This procedure may not allow enough time to evacuate building.

NOTE: STUDENTS AND PERSONNEL ARE NOT TO ENTER THE BUILDING UNTIL THE O.K, SIGNAL HAS BEEN GIVEN BY THE SUPERINTENDENT OR PRINCIPALS. IF THE FIRE CHIEF IS IN THE BUILDING, HE/SHE WILL NOTIFY THE ADMINISTRATION WHEN THE "ALL CLEAR" IS GIVEN.

Media Parents and community members will want prompt, accurate information during times of emergency. The best method to inform quickly and accurately is through the mass media. The district will attempt to inform local media simultaneously, when appropriate through fax and/or telephone systems. The administration will keep the media informed. Media at the scene will be directed to the administration for information. At the appropriate time and after the crisis period has passed, administration will be available to the media. In minor emergency situations, the administrator may be designated as the media contact. During a crisis, the administration should ask for assistance from a designated staff person or community member. All other staff should refer questions from the media to them to ensure prompt accurate dissemination of information in times of crisis.
