Revised 8/2017 2017-18 University at Albany Foundation Undergraduate Student Research Endowed Fellowships GENERAL INFORMATION The University at Albany Foundation Undergraduate Student Research Endowed Fellowship program is designed to foster a research experience by providing a measure of financial support to meet research-related expenses. These fellowships will be awarded for research conducted in the Spring 2018 semester. The project must have been started after the end of the last academic year and be a work in progress. Students cannot apply for this award directly; eligible students must have their faculty mentor/project supervisor submit the nomination packet. Award amounts range from $150-$500 depending on availability of endowment funds. The funds will be paid in one UAlbany Foundation check to the student in mid-to-late April. Eligible expenses must be related to the proposed research project and may include the following: Costs associated with obtaining, preparing and analyzing data Photocopying or duplicating materials Postage and mailing, equipment use fees Purchase of necessary resources Travel expenses related to data collection Students should check with their project supervisor before purchasing research supplies, as there may be restrictions on what type of supplies can be purchased Note: Award funds cannot be used for conferences, professional meetings, or the purchase of computers. ELIGIBILITY To be considered for a University at Albany Foundation Undergraduate Student Research Endowed Fellowship, eligible students must be a junior or senior and have a declared major. AWARD SPECIFICATIONS The research project must be completed and a final report submitted electronically to the Office of the Vice President for Research to ResearchInternalAwards@albany.edu by Spring Semester Reading Day: Thursday, May 10, 2018. The final report should include the following: A project summary Procedures undertaken Project findings Any proposed recommendations Recipients must acknowledge the University at Albany Foundation Undergraduate Student Research Endowed Fellowship program and specific sponsor in all publicity and announcements, papers or publications resulting from their project. By accepting the award, the recipient gives permission to the University and the University Foundation to publish the final report or an abstract of the report.
SUBMISSION REQUIREMENTS Submissions must include the following: 1. A letter from the faculty mentor/project supervisor in which they state their support for the project and agree to provide oversight. 2. Completed nomination form 3. Itemized budget. Please include a statement detailing any other funding received for this project 4. A specified timetable and procedures for undertaking the project. NOMINATION PROCESS The Office of the Vice President for Research sends a call for nominations directly to the Deans and Department Chairs. The colleges and schools are responsible for disseminating the information to their faculty and students. Faculty members collect all materials for the nomination and submit the electronic nomination packet to the Department Chair of the appropriate college/school by the deadline noted (please contact the Department Chair for information on where to submit the electronic nomination packet). If the department will be submitting more than one nomination, the nominations must be ranked according to the quality of the student s mentored research. The Department Chair will forward the electronic nomination packet and ranking criteria to ResearchInternalAwards@albany.edu by the deadline noted below. A committee will review the proposals and departmental rankings and make funding recommendations to the Vice President for Research.
