Calderdale CCG - Governing Body Job Description Registered Nurse Function Specific Responsibilities Individual members of the Governing Body bring a range of perspectives, drawn from their different professions, roles, background and experience. These differing insights into the challenges and opportunities facing the CCG ensure that the Governing Body takes a balanced view across the whole of its business. The Registered Nurse is a clinical and independent member of the CCG s Governing Body, who, together with the Secondary Care Specialist, brings an impartial and strategic view of the business of the CCG. The post-holder will contribute a broader clinical view and experience of health and care issues to underpin the work of the CCG. In particular, they will bring to the Governing Body an understanding of patient care from a nursing perspective. The post-holder will also bring an understanding of integrated commissioning and support the CCG in developing models of community services across health and social care. As a member of the Governing Body, the post-holder will work with colleagues to ensure that the CCG commissions the highest quality services within its resource allocation, with a view to securing the best possible outcomes for local people, tackling health inequalities and maintaining a consistent focus on quality, integration and innovation. The post-holder will also share responsibility with colleagues to ensure that the CCG exercises its functions effectively, efficiently, economically, with good governance and in accordance with the terms of the CCG s Constitution. In line with statutory requirements, this role must be filled by an experienced registered nurse. The nurse cannot be an employee or member (including shareholder) of, or a partner in, a provider of primary medical services, or a provider with whom the CCG has made commissioning arrangements. Promote an ethos of encouraging best practice regarding safeguarding matters Key Role Responsibilities As the Registered Nurse, the postholder will inform the decisions of the Governing Body by bringing a broader view on health and care issues and in particular skills and experience in developing integrated health and social care and community services. This will underpin the work of the CCG. Together with Governing Body colleagues, the role of the Registered Nurse is to: demonstrate their commitment to continuously improving outcomes, tackling health inequalities and delivering the best value for money for the taxpayer; consider social care principles and promote health and social care integration where this is in the best interest of local people;

Additional Registered Nurse responsibilities As well as sharing responsibility with other members for the decisions made by the Governing Body as a whole you will bring a unique perspective, informed by your expertise and experience to: Bring a broader view, from your perspective as a registered nurse, on health and care issues to underpin the work of the CCG especially the contribution of nursing to the development of new models of care in the primary and community setting Use your in-depth understanding of nursing to add value to the local and West Yorkshire and Harrogate Sustainability and Transformation Plans. Be an active member of the Commissioning Primary Medical Services Committee and the Audit Committee; Be competent, confident and able to provide an independent strategic clinical view on all aspects of CCG business; be confident and able to give an independent view on provider performance, quality and safety processes and procedures and have the ability to influence quality improvement; Be highly regarded as a clinical leader, preferably with experience of working as a leader across more than one clinical discipline and/or specialty with a track record of collaborative working. Be able to contribute a generic view from the perspective of nursing whilst putting aside specific issues relating to their own clinical practice and; Be able to bring an appropriate insight to discussions regarding service redesign, system reform as well the need to continuously improve the quality of care. Time commitment The post holder will be required to commit a minimum of 2.5 days per month to Governing Body duties. Specific lead roles and duties will be agreed with the post holder on appointment.

Have completed a masters degree or equivalent experience in a nursing environment. Be registered with the Nursing and Midwifery Council. If the candidate no longer practises nursing, they will need to demonstrate retained relevant understanding of nursing care. They will need to have practiced within the past 3 years. How Identified Knowledge and Experience General understanding of health and an appreciation of the broad social, political and economic trends influencing it. An understanding of good governance and of the difference between governance and management. Track record in securing or supporting improvements for patients or the wider public A good level of understanding of the health needs and local context of Calderdale.
