INTRODUCTION Welcome to the Elim Missions fundraising pack! We hope that this will help you to learn a little more about fundraising, whether that be what it is, how to do it or simply why to even bother! With this pack, we aim to answer as many questions as possible, as well as equip you with endless ideas for fundraising. CONTENTS 1 2 3 5 6 8 Why fundraise? What 5 can buy Missions Globes Shop with Integrity Fundraising ideas by category Getting started Our current economic climate makes it very difficult to give financially outside of you and your family s immediate needs. It is true that any charity, youth group and other non-profit organisation will rely heavily on fundraising and fundraisers. This is why we at Elim missions want to make fundraising about you and the impact you can make through organising something fun, creative, and helpful to you and those around you. Together we can achieve something. We can gather people in the same room and raise money to help our missionaries, churches and projects across the globe through the work of Elim missions. Fundraising can be as big or small as you want it to be! It s a great way to get people together and use their talents. You may prefer to simply post a cheque to the office and give directly which is greatly appreciated. However, there are people who enjoy investing time and effort to raise money for a good cause in a fun way. This is where we want to help. At Elim Missions we are passionate about fundraising in a way that is impacting, effective and flexible. Why FUNDRAISE? 1

What 5 CAN BUY... We asked our missionaries what 5 can buy where they are, the response was amazing and will give you some insight into how far your money really can go. 1p 2p ONE MONTHS SCHOOL FEES TWO HENS FOR BREEDING & A SOURCE OF INCOME 1000 CHILD S MEDICINES FOR ONE YEAR PARACETAMOL TABLETS FOOD FOR A FAMILY FOR ONE WEEK TESTS&TREATMENT OF TYPHOID 1 2 If you are able to encourage members of your church to give just 5 a month to Elim Missions the results of that giving would be life changing. To do this simply print off a Direct Debit form from our website and then send it to the Elim Missions office. (See Page 8) 2

Mission GLOBES HOW TO RUN A MISSIONS GLOBE PROJECT IN YOUR CHURCH Running a Missions Globe project in your church is really easy! It is a fantastic way to get people involved with fundraising and a simple way to raise money for Elim Missions. Thank you for your willingness to help Elim Missions by embarking on this journey with us. Below is an explanation of how you can run Mission Globes in your church. STEP ONE STEP TWO STEP THREE Once you have your globes, using the stickers provided write the date of your first collection on it and stick to the bottom of the box. Then hand out the globes to people in your church pointing out the date of collection. Many churches have chosen to use the first Sunday of each quarter (e.g. March, June, September and December) but this is entirely up to you. On the chosen day of collection set up an area with two people present and a bucket/bin (or something similar) for people to empty their globes into. As people arrive they can simply open the globe and pour the money into the designated pot. Once they have done that, thank them and give them a new sticker with a date for the next collection. Once all money is collected and counted send it in to Elim Missions either by cheque payable to Elim International Missions to the address below or through monthly returns. If you have any queries, please do not hesitate to contact us. Thank you so much for your time and effort, we really do appreciate all your support. Shop WITH INTEGRITY Shop with Integrity was birthed in 2004, following visits made overseas by a number of Elim Missions teams. They visited projects making beautiful hand crafted goods and employing local people. Some of the projects had even been set up by our own missionaries. These products were of high quality and could easily be sold in the UK with considerable profit. Elim missions, using existing connections within the local church, began to support as many global, local and ethically trading businesses as possible. Elim Missions Shop With Integrity can buy from men and women across the globe supporting them to receive a sustainable income and give them a good, safe and ethical working environment. We always ensure that products are bought at a fair price and all profits are then sown back into the work of Elim Missions. We have a wide variety of hand-made goods for sale such as jewellery, scarves and gift bags. If you would like to have a Shop With Integrity stall at your church please contact the Elim Missions office for more information 5

Don t underestimate how much hard work running a charity shop can be, but it is a fantastic way of raising finances for local, national & international causes. Each shop is unique and differs from place to place. This is equally true of the finances each shop can raise. Several of our Elim churches have opened charity shops to support specific areas or projects. Our first Lifelink Charity Shop opened in 2005 and it now regularly takes around 600-700 per week. This is a vast sum in relation to the many countries Elim is working in and makes an enormous difference. The first thing to do is to seek the advice and input of experienced, knowledgeable people as there are so many areas that will need to be taken into account. Premises, overheads, staffing, policies and legislation are just some key considerations. Unfortunately, we are unable to cover all you need to know about setting a charity shop in this fundraising pack, but if you have been stirred to find out more or if you know of someone who has a vision for such a venture, please contact the Elim Missions office for more information, contacts and advice. Get some advice and realise the vision. It isn t as impossible as it first seems. Why not rise to the challenge! 7
