Students from Senior Seminar and other students representing NSU Sport and Recreation Management volunteer at the Hope Outreach Golf Tournament. Dr. Finley, pictured above, is on the tournament committee. After students stuffed goody bags, Dr. Finley gave last minute instructions to the students who served as hole monitors for the various contests. It was a day to support a local charity and network. NCAA SCHOLARSHIP OPPORTUNITIES The NCAA scholarship applications are now open. The NCAA supports student-athlete success on the field, in the classroom and for life by awarding scholarships to help current and former college athletes pursue additional educational opportunities. The scholarships are awarded to student-athletes who excel academically and athletically and who are at least in their final year of intercollegiate athletics competition. Recently Professor Olson had the opportunity to see three of the scholarships awarded at the Faculty Athletics Representative Association s Awards Dinner. You can find out more about the scholarships at www.ncaa.org/scholarshipsandgrants. Contact Professor Olson if you think you qualify and are interested. The FAR must initiate the application. Here is a quick overview of available scholarships: Jim McKay Scholarship which honors the legacy of pioneer sports journalist, Jim McKay. The applicant need not be a major in communication but should demonstrate achievement in sport communication, public relations or at least show a contribution to the field. Minimum cumulative GPA: 3.5 or better Competed in intercollegiate athletics as a member of a NCAA institution Deadline to apply: January 13, 2017 Walter Byers Graduate Scholarship is awarded as a means of recognizing the contributions of the former executive director through encouraging excellence in academic performance by student-athletes. Minimum cumulative GPA: 3.5 or better Competed in intercollegiate athletics as a member of a NCAA institution Deadline to apply: January 13, 2017 NCAA Post Graduate Scholarship Program awards scholarships to student-athletes who excel academically and athletically and who are at least in their final year of intercollegiate athletics competition.
