October 9, 2017 MAIN MENU * This Week s Announcements * Stevenson News and Information * Junior News and Information * This Week s Events * Teacher Talk * Sophomore News and Information * Senior News and Information * District News and Information This Week s Announcements Free PSAT/SAT Prep There will be free PSAT/SAT prep sessions every Tuesday and Thursday starting next week leading up to the actual test in April. The sessions are being led by students for students using multiple resources that students have found useful in preparation for the test. The Tuesday sessions will be in room A5 and the Thursday sessions will be in G127. Should your student have any questions they should email Kani at cerick@stu.uticak12.org. Credit Recovery to Begin Any student who needs to take a credit recovery class after school should sign up this week by calling 797-6900. Classes start Monday. Senior College Meeting for Parents If you have a senior this year, counselors are offering a Senior College Meeting presentation for parents to learn about the college admissions process, using Naviance to request transcripts, and FAFSA/financial aid basics. Two sessions will be offered on Thursday, October 12, in conjunction with Stevenson conferences. Each session will last approximately 45 minutes and cover the same material.

TIMES: 2:15 and 8:15 p.m. LOCATION: Stevenson Amphitheater - this room is across the hall from the Counseling Office If you are unable to attend a session, counselors are available in the Counseling Office during conferences to address your questions and concerns. PSAT on Saturday, October 14th Juniors are encouraged to participate in this fall PSAT opportunity. PSAT scores can be linked to Khan Academy for guided SAT practice. Strong SAT scores (combined with solid grade point averages) frequently lead to scholarship money from universities. Exceptional PSAT scores from this fall test will lead to National Merit Scholar consideration. The fee for this test is $20. Sign-up is through the QuickLinks button on Stevenson's website. Register by October 11th. Students should see their counselor for further information. Students need to bring their student ID, calculator and pencils to the test. Practice books are available in the Counseling Office Senior College Applications and Financial Aid Seniors should be submitting their college applications directly on college websites in October. AFTER a student applies, he or she should log into their Naviance account to request transcripts. Seniors have received a handout to walk them through this process. As always, counselors are available to assist. MOST colleges have end-of-october deadlines for top consideration of college applications. Western Michigan University, however, has an October 15th deadline for scholarship consideration. Our MSU representative shared with students in his college visit that he recommended mid-october as a goal for getting MSU applications submitted. The FAFSA form for financial aid consideration was opened by the federal government on October 1st. Seniors and their parents should also be working on completing this VERY important document. The FAFSA information may be sent, for FREE, to as many colleges as a student requests. The college financial aid offices use this information to determine student financial aid packages which may include grants, loans and work study opportunities. There are some scholarships that a student can't even be considered for if a FAFSA has not been completed so it is important that ALL families follow through on the FAFSA. Go to FAFSA.ed.gov to work on the FAFSA.

Picture Makeup/Retakes If you didn t get your picture taken at Titan Days or you need to retake your picture. Picture retake day is Wednesday, October 18, from 10:00 a.m. to 1 p.m. In the teacher s lounge. See attached flyer.
