Internet of things Business pitch contest The 3 rd Internet of things business week is organizing a business pitch contest aimed at fostering the networking of IoT business stakeholders to encourage the transition from IoT use cases to IoT business cases. The contest will take place on Wednesday, June 19 th 2013 in Helsinki at the IoT week 2013. Business starters and ideas developers are invited to present their marketing pitch in front of the European Internet of Things community. Beside of the contest, a large part of the time will be devoted to networking opportunities and discussion on business challenges and drivers. Each participant will be granted with a 5 min for presentation plus 5 min of questions to convince the audience. Prizes include: Grundfos Connect special prize: business coaching for network enlargement. Senzation prize: gain your free participation to the IoT summer school (www.senzations.net) and tailored advices from business and technologist participants. A Waspmote starter kit offered by Libelium How to participate? Registration should be made by sending an e.mail to contest@iot-butler.eu Deadline for participant registration is June, 12 th. A pre-selection of candidates will be made by the organizers. Retained participants will be informed by e.mail on June, 13 th. Registration e.mail should contain (Deadline June 12 th ): Biography of the presenter (100 to 200 words), possibly with picture Publishable summary (1 page long) Prior Monday 17 th, a five minutes presentation should be sent. Presentation can be a set of slides, a video, or any other means not exceeding 5 min of presentation.

Jury Alicia Asín Pérez, CEO Libelium (chairman) Rasmus Blom, Director of Grundfos Connect Sami Jokela, EIT ICT Labs Business Accelerator & HitSeed CEO Jesper Nevalainen, Partner Bird & Bird Alicia Asín is the CEO and co-founder of Libelium, the Zaragoza, Spain based wireless sensor hardware provider, creators of Waspmote, a modular, open source sensor platform for the Internet of Things. Alicia is a computer engineer focused on how IoT can change our world, starting with Smart Cities. She is a frequent speaker at international conferences on issues related to Smart Cities, wireless sensor networks and IoT. Rasmus Blom, leading Grundfos Connect, a new business development area in Grundfos with the overall responsibility of defining the digital products and services strategy and developing a business platform for innovating and launching digital products, information services and connected solutions. Utilizing applications on smart mobile devices, ubiquitous connectivity, M2M communication and the evolution of Internet of Things (IoT). Sami Jokela, HitSeed Managing Partner and Networking & Development Manager at EµIT- ICT Lab. 18 years of technology, venturing, business development and management consulting experience in Europe and in the Silicon Valley. 25 years of hardware and software experience. Has established multiple high technology and media ventures. PhD in C.S. / Strategy. Jesper Nevalainen, partner at Bird&Bird, focuses on commercial law, including outsourcing, especially in the IT sector and has particular expertise in open source licensing issues. Jesper advises leading domestic and international companies operating in the information technology, media and communications sectors on a wide range of commercial matters. Jesper specialises in the areas of outsourcing and complex technology transactions, advising both users and suppliers of IT, ordinarily in business-critical projects, as well as in non-contentious IP, software licensing and compliance matters. Jesper has, for several years, been recommended by the leading legal directories, including EMEA Legal 500 and Chambers and Partners.

Selection process Selection will be conducted by the jury based on their knowledge of the business context in general and of the IoT specificities. The dimensions of interest for the evaluation will be: Business Description How well is the concept exposed? If the value proposition clear? How reasonable, sustainable, and scalable is the new concept? IoT enablement: To what extent the proposed idea benefits from IoT capabilities? To what extent the proposed concept take into account Market Positioning Is the targeted market evaluated qualitatively and quantitatively? Are the existing and forthcoming competitors identified? Are the differentiators clearly expressed? Management and Operations Is the management team experienced in the field? Are distribution channels identified? Is there a reasonable roadmap? Presentation Is the pitch overall appealing? Did the presenter capture the audience attention? Were visual supports clear and bringing additional value?
