A WORD FROM PASTOR KATHLEEN Dear Friends, When I was younger, I was very passionate about theater. But, theater is an art with auditions. And as happens often, I got turned down quite a lot. There was one production in particular in high school that I auditioned for and when the cast list came out I was just appalled with the choice of the girl who got the part that I wanted. They chose her instead of me? She can t even dance! The song isn t in her vocal range! I should have been the one to get the part! It is in our human nature to want to be the one chosen, whether we are in the arts or sports, business or law. We want to be appreciated. We want to be promoted. We want to be honored and recognized for our hard work and effort and talent. But sometimes God s understandings of calling go against our expectations.

This week we continue in our sermon series Calling, looking at how God speaks to us, calls to us, and how we respond. Last week we learned about the Holy Spirit coming at Pentecost and the call to accept the fire that moves even if we may not understand it. This week we look at Jesus calling of Levi from Mark 2:13-17. Levi seems an unlikely person to call and the crowd he keeps seems an unlikely crowd to eat with Jesus. Surely Jesus couldn t choose Levi! Why is Jesus eating with them? There must have been a mix-up! Join us at 9 or 11 as, together, we talk about this powerful story of who we are as people called by God and God s purposes for us as disciples of Jesus! In Christ, Pastor Kathleen 2. VOLUNTEER SPOTLIGHT Our Volunteer of the Week is Nelda Adams! Nelda has been working hard putting together a schedule for the Pasmore Summer Feeding Program at Fisher Street and preparing for the Fisher Street Clothing Drive which will take place June 3. Thank you Nelda for your outreach ministry work! 3. FISHER STREET CLOTHING DRIVE This is the last Sunday before the Fisher Street Clothing Drive! If you have any household goods or spring/summer clothing that you want to donate, please place it in the Tour De Faith trailer before next Thursday, May 31. Volunteers are welcome at Fisher Street on Friday, June 1 to help sort and organize items and the clothing drive will take place on Saturday, June 2. See Nelda Adams for more details. 4. OZARK MISSION PROJECT Cornerstone will host Ozark Mission Project campers from June 24 28. MISSION OPPORTUNITY We have an opportunity to be in mission and evangelism with our brothers and sisters at Christ Way. Some have already volunteered to assist them with a VBS for children in their neighborhood. It will be June 11 13 from 5:00 7:00 p.m. Areas of service that are available include: food preparation, arts & crafts, music, recreation and especially to love children! For more information, contact Pastor Kathleen or David Belk. 6. VACATION BIBLE SCHOOL Vacation Bible School This year s Vacation Bible School is set for Sunday, June 3, to Wednesday, June 6, from 6 pm to 8:30 pm. It takes lots of hands to make VBS run smoothly. If you d like to volunteer/lead an area, call or text Christi at 501.860.5678 or email familyminister@cornerstoneumc.net. Online registration is now open at www.myvbs.org/cornerstoneumc.

If you have not yet turned your items in, please try to do so this Sunday so that we can see if any additional supplies are needed. Also, if you would like to help provide food for the Hospitality Room, there is a sign-up sheet on the VBS Bulletin Board. 7.
