A WORD FROM PASTOR KATHLEEN Dear Friends, When I was younger, I was very passionate about theater. But, theater is an art with auditions. And as happens often, I got turned down quite a lot. There was one production in particular in high school that I auditioned for and when the cast list came out I was just appalled with the choice of the girl who got the part that I wanted. They chose her instead of me? She can t even dance! The song isn t in her vocal range! I should have been the one to get the part! It is in our human nature to want to be the one chosen, whether we are in the arts or sports, business or law. We want to be appreciated. We want to be promoted. We want to be honored and recognized for our hard work and effort and talent. But sometimes God s understandings of calling go against our expectations.
This week we continue in our sermon series Calling, looking at how God speaks to us, calls to us, and how we respond. Last week we learned about the Holy Spirit coming at Pentecost and the call to accept the fire that moves even if we may not understand it. This week we look at Jesus calling of Levi from Mark 2:13-17. Levi seems an unlikely person to call and the crowd he keeps seems an unlikely crowd to eat with Jesus. Surely Jesus couldn t choose Levi! Why is Jesus eating with them? There must have been a mix-up! Join us at 9 or 11 as, together, we talk about this powerful story of who we are as people called by God and God s purposes for us as disciples of Jesus! In Christ, Pastor Kathleen 2. VOLUNTEER SPOTLIGHT Our Volunteer of the Week is Nelda Adams!
