Background of STANAG 2594 Best EP Practices for Sustainability of Military Training Areas most of the military areas, and especially those used for training and testing, contain significant, even spectacular, amounts of natural and semi-natural habitats and landscapes, with corresponding abundances of wildlife. Sometimes they are among the richest and most important sites for biodiversity in their country.
Background of STANAG 2594 Best EP Practices for Sustainability of Military Training Areas In 2011, EPWG documented the relationship between military land use and biodiversity on military training areas used by NATO/PfP countries (EU focus) N2K Species: Mil Site vs. All Others Mil Maneuver All Others Average Number of Article 4 and Annex II Species for Sites with Military Maneuver Influences and for all Sites by Country (total # of sites with species information indicated) EPWG collected examples of how nations safeguard the natural environment within their training area, while maximizing its uses as a training resource
