Artist Jaye Harrer Exhibit Dates: June 18 July 30 Ann Arbor City Club Art Gallery Check it out! @librarything,com/catalog/annarborcityclub Recent Acquisitions: As an avid traveler, I've been fortunate to have had many opportunities to explore the natural world, and in doing so, encountering many lovely, feathered, creatures. I've been most inspired by the layered, texturing of bird's feathers and I ve attempted to capture their colorful form, shape, and shadows in my artwork. I hope in sharing my bird series, as well as some waterscapes, viewers will appreciate the beauty I've found in our fine, feathered, friends. LESS by Andrew Sean Greer is the winner of the 2017 Pulitzer Prize for fiction. This Comedic novel is about a struggling writer traveling the world in order to avoid a wedding. SING, UNBURIED, SING by Jesmyn Ward is the winner of the 2017 National Book Award. This epic tale of hope and struggle follows a family on a journey through rural Mississippi past and present, over three generations. The author received her MFA from U-M and is a recipient of the MacArthur Genius grant among other awards and prizes. Also new and waiting for you are The Punishment She Deserves by Elizabeth George (best of the Lynley series in a good while); The Temptation of Forgiveness by Donna Leon; and a series of four crime novels with Lord Heatheridge. This series will best be enjoyed if you begin with the first book Ice Blue by Emma Jameson. Jaye Harrer Additional images of Jaye s work can be found at www.artfuleye.net. Pat Amort Library Chair Club Gardens In Spectacular Bloom! Thanks to the knowledge, skill, and dedication of our wonderful Grounds Committee, City Club gardens are truly something to behold! Take some time to enjoy them. 3

Community Outreach Several items of note from the Outreach Committee: 1. We will again be launching a school supplies drive in September for the homeless youth of Washtenaw County. We haven t received the specific wish list from EPHY as of this date, but we assume it will be similar to the past lists, so if you see items on sale this summer at greatly reduced prices, you may want to purchase your donation then. We have requested the specific list in time for the August Beacon. 2. Anyone wishing to become a member of the Outreach Committee should contact me at bpomey@comcast.net, and I can answer any questions you might have. Our next meeting will be on Wednesday, August 1 at 10 am, and we welcome new members. Our committee is very active, and it is a perfect opportunity for you to make a difference in the community. 3. All members of the City Club are invited to submit the name of a non-profit in the Ann Arbor area who could use our $1000.00 annual donation awarded in May. We will be interviewing prospective nominees in the Fall. They must be a designated 501(C)3 organization. Please email me at the above address with your nominee so we can contact them and start the application process. Barb Pomey Community Outreach Committee Travel Club: Save the Dates!
