Dear Parishioners, Happy Mother s Day to all of our mothers. This is a day we give special honor to our mothers for all that they do for us. When we look at a mother s job, we see them as cook, laundress, psychologist, taxi driver, teacher, nurse, judge, servant, gardener, shopper, disciplinarian, helper, friend, accountant, house cleaner, caregiver, and coach - just to name a few. They work 24 x 7. Also, when we read the story of creation, God created women last so they are His finest work. This is a good day to also honor our heavenly mother, Mary. She is the last gift given to us from Jesus as He was dying on the cross. He said to John, the apostle; There is your mother. We thank Mary for her motherly love, her intercession and maternal provision. She loves and cares for her children and prays for all to be with her in heaven enjoying eternal life. The greatest gift that we have received is Jesus, our Lord and Savior and He was born of Mary. It was from her that He was born as man. It is said that all graces come through Mary. Let us thank Mary for saying yes to the Lord s invitation to be His mother. Let us respond to Mary s request that we pray the Rosary each day and let us be obedient to our mother s last recorded words in Scripture. She told the servants at the wedding feast of Cana - Do whatever He tells you. CALEB'S CORNER We have a newly formed committee to review the condition of our facility (Church, hall and rectory). They will see what needs to be addressed to keep everything in good shape. We want to be proactive, to address issues before they become a major problem. They will be meeting on Saturday, May 19, to survey the buildings and property. I will be available for confession this week on Wednesday, May 16, from 3:00 p.m. - 3:30 p.m. May Jesus continue to shepherd you in all of your needs. My friends and I would like to wish all mothers a very Happy Mother s Day! God love you, 2
Reflection of the Week Keep your face to the sunshine and you will never see the shadow. HOLY HOUR A time of quiet music & reflection Sunday 7:00 p.m.-8:00 p.m. PRAYER GROUP Hour of praise and charismatic prayer Monday 7:30-8:30 p.m. BIBLE STUDY Scripture Reading and Discussion Tuesday 7:30 p.m. HEALING SOAKING PRAYER Come meet us to pray for healing Wednesday 6:30 p.m. Thursday 2:00 p.m. Spiritual Teaching Rings and Grace When I look at my hands, I am reminded that I lost my wedding and engagement rings. I was multitasking as I packed for a trip, and I still have no idea where they ended up. I dreaded telling my husband about my careless mistake worried how the news would affect him. But he responded with more compassion and care for me than concern over the rings. However, there are times when I still want to do something to earn his grace! He, on the contrary, doesn t hold this episode against me. So many times we remember our sins and feel we must do something to earn God s forgiveness. But God has said it is by grace, not by works, that we are saved (Eph. 2:8 9). Speaking of a new covenant, God promised Israel, I will forgive their wickedness and will remember their sins no more (Jer. 31:34). We have a God who forgives and no longer calls to mind the wrongs we have done. We may still feel sad about our past, but we need to trust His promise and believe His grace and forgiveness is real through faith in Jesus Christ. This news should lead us to thankfulness and the assurance faith brings. When God forgives, He forgets. ~ Keila Ochoa. ~ Keila Ochoa. When he stood up in the pulpit, he was annoyed to find only 10 worshipers present, including the choir. Afterward he complained to the sexton. That was a very small turnout, he said. weren t they informed that I was coming? No, replied the sexton, but word must have leaked out! ~Reader s Digest 6
