OFFICIAL MINUTES OF THE BLOUNT COUNTY BOARD OF EDUCATION The Blount County Board of Education met in Regular Session on Thursday, February 4, 2016 at 5:00 p.m. in the John P. Davis, Jr. Boardroom at the Central Office. Seconded by Mrs. Sudhoff It was discussed what was the plan if Veterans Day fell on a weekend. It was decided to wait on taking any action on this item until Mr. Goins could return next month Motion to table this item until next month by Mr. Finley Seconded by Mr. Helton TABLED 6. Discussion and possible action regarding setting aside 2% of the 2016-17 school budget in a restricted instructional account for the purpose of funding additional resources for the students Fred Goins Pulled from agenda-no action COMMENTS FROM THE BLOUNT COUNTY EDUCATION ASSOCIATION Rebecca Dickenson, BCEA President, expressed two concerns from teachers (1) roofs leaking in several schools after the recent rain and (2) problems with the new insurance COMMENTS FROM STUDENT REPRESENTATIVES Brandon Hurst (HHS)-students received a grant to help cover half of AP exam costs; two chromebook carts have been donated; and tile that had been replaced in upstairs intersection looks nice and students appreciate the improvements Samuel Taylor (WB)-presented a short video on Project Search and introduced his brother who is a participant in the project There were no COMMITTEE REPORTS COMMENTS FROM THE COMMUNITY REGARDING ITEMS NOT ON THE AGENDA Wanda DeWaard-high school swim teams Steve Moser-Heritage Middle boys basketball team COMMENTS FROM THE BOARD Mr. Gardner thanked the staff for their preparation and presentation at the budget workshop held prior to the board meeting Mr. Compton requested on next month s agenda an item be placed regarding using $2,000,000 of fund balance on the roofs at Eagleton Middle, Eagleton Elementary, Fairview, Heritage Vocational, Lanier, Porter, Rockford, Townsend, William Blount Vocational, William Blount 9th Grade Academy and Everett schools Mrs. Sudhoff thanked the staff for their hard work on the recent Excellence in Education banquet Motion to adjourn by Mrs. Sudhoff Meeting Adjourned Trevis Gardner, Chairman 4
