I hope you have had a great relaxing summer! Cavelero Mid High School is looking great and ready for you! I would like to invite all of our next year s students to our STAMPEDE/STUDENT ORIENTATION Tuesday, August 27th. We have changed our format for the Stampede! In the past we have focused on some paperwork, a brief tour and a small period of time to meet and greet other students. This year we will run a full day program that will include an assembly, lunch, school pictures, student led activities and a chance to meet many of your teachers! Our goal is to have a day that not only meets some of the management type work that needs to be done, but to have a day that kicks the year off in a fun and meaningful way. Our goals for 2013-2014 include continuing to improve the climate, openness and atmosphere of Cavelero Mid High School. We believe that our Stampede will be the kick-off for achieving these goals! We hope to see all of our 8th and 9th grade students at our Stampede! More information regarding the Stampede can be found on page two of the newsletter. AGENDA 8:00 a.m. - 9:00 a.m. (optional student drop-off) Parents and students can walk throughout the school if they choose. Since 20th/Hewitt is usually very busy at that time of the morning please consider using 83rd for your convenience. 9:00 a.m. Stampede will begin at 9:00 a.m. All students will meet in the gymnasium for a fun and exciting assembly. 10:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m. There will be student led activities, school pictures, lunch and you will meet many of your teachers. Students can be picked up between 2:00 p.m. and 3:00 p.m. depending on picture line. If transportation is a problem please email Sandy_Pollestad@lkstevens.wednet.edu. For our Cavelero parents and students the Business Office will be open for purchasing ASB cards, yearbook and pay class fees from 8:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. and 1:00 p.m. - 2:30p.m. First day of school is September 4th! We expect our students to dress for success each day at Cavelero Mid High. Student dress and grooming affects the general learning environment of the school and must meet minimal health and safety standards which include cleanliness, neatness, the wearing of shoes, and clothing appropriate to the school. Clothing, personal items, or other medium that promotes the use of tobacco products, alcohol or other drugs (including rave type accessories such as pacifiers and jewelry known as candy), inappropriate language, sexual innuendo, slang or gang slang, or is indecent, too revealing, or too suggestive is not allowed. Hoods are not allowed to be worn on campus. Shirts and pants must be the type that cover the body and undergarments in an appropriate and decent manner for school. Attire that is perceived as gang-affiliated will not be tolerated (ex: Insane Clown Posse clothing/accessories, etc.) Pants cannot be sagging below the hips, and all undergarments must be covered. Beachwear, short shorts, pajamas and gang style dress are not acceptable. These clothing and dress standards extend to all student activities including athletics. All shorts/skirts must pass the fingertip length rule at all times. Straps of shirts must be an inch or more in width (approximately 2 fingers wide) in both the front and back of the shirt and cover all undergarment straps. The straps also need to be attached. Sunglasses are not allowed to be worn in buildings during school or school activities. Bandannas, hairnets, or anything else that administration view as inappropriate are banned at school and school events. For more information please check our student handbook on our website under Parents & Students, Student Handbook, page 8.

Introducing...Your Cavelero Counselors Dale Mabren Guin Reeves Emily Thomas A - Gr Gu - N O - Z Hello Colts!! We are looking forward to a new school year with you. We are eagerly looking forward to seeing all of you soon, and hope that you have made the most of your summer break and have awesome stories to share. Your schedules will be available to view online through Family Access on August 24th. Each year a few students ask us about changing their schedules. If you have a conflict in your schedule or if you are scheduled in a class you did not request in the spring we can help with that. This is the only type of schedule change we can do. Please do not ask for a schedule change based on your lunch or teacher as we cannot accommodate these types of changes. We expect our counseling offices to be up and running by August 21st. If you have concerns, please call or e-mail us on or after that date. We will be available for questions or schedule issues from 8:00am 3:30pm on August 26th, 27th, 28th, 30th. The Cavelero Stampede is August 27th. In the meantime Enjoy these last few weeks of summer!!! News from the Attendance Office Attendance is an important part of a student s education. Here is some information that can help your student be successful in their years here at Cavelero. Absences: It is very important that absences are excused. You may either: call in to the attendance or main office, send an email to Carilyn Bailey or send a note with your student to excuse an absence. Absences need to be excused within 3 days of the student s return to school or they will be unexcused and marked truant. Students are allowed 10 absences per semester or loss of credit is possible. Preplanned absences: Absences due to vacation or medical procedures that are 3 or more days and have been planned ahead of time need to have a Prior Permission Form filled out completely and turned into the Attendance Office at least one week prior to the absence. If this is not done for vacations you run the risk of absences after the 3 rd day being unexcused. The student handbook is also a great tool for any attendance information you may need. If you have any questions or concerns please do not hesitate to either call Carilyn Bailey, Attendance Secretary, at 425-335-1629 or email at carilyn_bailey@lkstevens.wednet.edu. PARENT VOLUNTEERS NEEDED! Do you have a few hours each week that you would like to spend at Cavelero Mid High School? We would love to have a parent/ community presence on our campus, and there will be a need for parent helpers in the office areas, before school, during lunch and throughout the school. If you think you may be interested in volunteering as a Cavelero Colt parent please e-mail Mrs. Pollestad at sandy_pollestad@lkstevens.wednet.edu or sign-up at the Welcome Back Stampede/Student Orientation on Thursday, August 27th. We are generating a list of people who would like to participate in the CMH experience, and there is a place for you!. ATHLETICS Physicals are valid for two years, however the eligibility form/code of conduct, concussion form and drug testing form (for 9th grade) must be filled out and signed each year. Forms are available on the Cavelero website. Forms must be returned on or before the first day of practice. The athletic office will re-open on August 14th @9:00 a.m. and we will start accepting forms for 2013-2014 on that date. PLEASE VISIT THE CAVELERO WEBSITE FOR ALL FORMS, DATES AND INFORMATION. www.lkstevens.wednet.edu/cmh GO COLTS!
