A EUROPEAN PERSPECTIVE ON HOUSING Summer School for Young Professionals 21 25 August 2017 Bochum, Germany

The housing sector all across Europe has to face key challenges like ageing societies, energy efficiency and digitization or the question of inclusive neighborhoods. Despite different national frameworks, the European exchange of ideas, best practices and innovative approaches gives valuable incentives to solve problems prevalent in all European countries. For the first time ever, young professionals of the housing sector all over Europe have the opportunity to be part of this international exchange. The interactive programme combines academic knowledge with the expertise of practitioners to develop concepts and solutions for the key challenges of housing in the 21st century. Participate in fruitful discussions with European experts, learn about solutions and approaches of your European neighbours, find common ground with your peers and develop your own European network. Five exciting and instructional days are waiting for you in Bochum, Germany, located in the very heart of Europe. The Summer School is offered to you by EBZ European Education Centre for the Housing and Real Estate Sector in cooperation with EFL European Federation for Living and Housing Europe, the European Federation of Public, Cooperative and Social Housing. The Summer School is under the patronage of Gunther Adler, State Secretary at the German Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation, Building and Nuclear Safety. Speakers Dr. Gerard van Bortel B.Arch. Assistant Professor Housing Management, TU Delft Gerard van Bortel has a broad experience of more than 25 years working and doing research in social housing. His research and educational activities focus on three themes: 1) management, finance and governance of affordable housing, 2) Circular economy in affordable housing provision, and 3) the role of housing providers in social inclusion and neighbourhood regeneration. Anna Schaffrath, M.A. Intercultural Trainer Anna Schaffrath is an ethnologist and a certified intercultural trainer specialized in the Arab-Islamic world. Since 2013, she has done freelance work in youth and adult education. She runs training courses and seminars in the fields of (inter)cultural awareness and competence, team building and sustainable development, being active in the private and the public sector. Alice Pittini Research Coordinator, Housing Europe Alice is the Research Coordinator at Housing Europe. She is in charge of managing the research department the Observatory with tasks including: Devising and conducting studies to provide strategic advice to Housing Europe policy work, monitoring statistics on housing and living conditions in the EU and relevant research projects, liaising with research institutions and international organizations/think thanks, and managing contacts with key experts in the housing sector at national level. Sanna Uotila Project Manager Living As a Service, Setlementtiasunnot Oy Sanna Uotila is a Finnish service and industrial designer. She works as a project manager for the Living As a Service project, focusing for example on multigenerational housing concepts. The Finnish housing organization Setlementtiasunnot Oy brings a human-centered approach into social housing, recognizes people s strengths as well as abilities and acknowledges diversity; it is a community builder, a provider of versatile housing services, as well as a producer of societally sustainable housing solutions. Prof. Dr.-Ing. Viktor Grinewitschus Professor for Energy Management in Real Estate Business, EBZ Business School Viktor Grinewitschus is a leading expert in Germany for smart home, building technology, and for energy saving applications based on smart building infrastructures. His key qualifications are architectures and technologies of smart home and building systems as well as the development of assistive functionalities based on these infrastructures. Daniel Archard Energy and Green Manager for Clarion Housing Group Daniel Archard leads the energy and environmental strategy for Clarion Housing Group, which is the largest social landlord in the UK. He is responsible for the energy efficiency investment programme for the stock, the provision of energy advice to residents and for reducing the organisation s environmental impacts. Daniel has almost 20 years of experience in housing energy efficiency working for landlords, the public sector and in consultancy.

FAQ Who should register? Young professionals (in general less than 10 years of working experience) working in the housing sector Are there any admission requirements? A working knowledge of English is required to follow presentations and participate in the programme What are the participation fees? 1.500 EUR per person; if employed by a company that is a member of EFL European Federation for Living, a reduced fee of 1.300 EUR applies What is included in this price? Participation in all programme activities, accommodation at EBZ hotel facilities on campus (2-bed rooms for single use, four nights), full board (as indicated in the programme), certificate of participation at the end of the course How can I register?
