What is the Multi- Disciplinary Team (MDT)? This leaflet provides information about the Gynaecological Oncology MDT. An MDT is a team of professionals who are involved in your care at various stages from diagnosis to treatment. The team consists of numbers of experts in different area who have specialist training and experience in caring for women with gynaecological cancers. They are able to provide you with the treatment options that are most effective in treating your cancer, if diagnosed. The MDT meeting is held weekly. A wide variety of cancer specialists are present at the meeting and we aim to come to a collective decision about the best way to proceed with your treatment. In some cases, it will be more appropriate to refer you to a specialist team at the Christie and we will advise you of this at your clinic appointment. We will notify you and your GP as soon as possible after the meeting. Members of the MDT Consultant Gynaecological Oncology Surgeon As part of your cancer treatment you may require surgery. The surgeon is a specialist who can perform the type of surgery to remove the cancer. Consultant Gynaecological Surgeon This surgeon is able to assess and treat some gynaecological cancers. The Gynaecological Clinical Nurse Specialist Known as your Key Worker, this nurse specialist s main role is to help women and their families to understand and cope with a suspected, new or recurrent diagnosis of gynaecological cancer.
