NEWS RELEASE FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE February 05, 2014 Karen Galbo Phone: 203.338.6113 Fax: 203.338.6116 karen.galbo@peoples.com PEOPLE S UNITED COMMUNITY FOUNDATION AWARDS $870,220 TO COMMUNITY ORGANIZATIONS IN THE NORTHEAST BRIDGEPORT, CT The People s United Community Foundation, the philanthropic arm of People s United Bank (NASDAQ: PBCT), announced today that it awarded $870,220 in grants to nonprofit organizations throughout the communities it serves in Connecticut, New York, Massachusetts, Vermont, New Hampshire and Maine. One hundred forty-one organizations received funding in support of activities that ranged from education programs and basic needs services to workforce development programs and affordable housing. The funding was distributed within the foundation s three areas of focus, with 35 percent allocated to community development, 30 percent to youth development, and 16 percent to affordable housing initiatives. The People s United Community Foundation also contributed 19 percent of its funding to local United Way organizations across its footprint through the People s United Bank employee match campaign. Recipients included FSW Inc. and Local Initiatives Support Corporation (LISC) in Connecticut, Yonkers Partners in Education and Long Island Cares in New York, Nativity School of Worcester and Metropolitan Boston Housing Partnership in Massachusetts, Champlain Valley Office of Economic Opportunity and Committee on Temporary Shelter in Vermont, YMCA of Greater Manchester and Nashua Adult Learning Center in New Hampshire, and Jobs for Maine s Graduates and Literacy Volunteers of Bangor in Maine. People s United Community Foundation continues to support the many nonprofit organizations that are working hard to respond to the needs of individuals and families throughout our communities, said Vincent Santilli, Executive Director of the foundation. We are pleased with how our philanthropic dollars are aiding their success. For a detailed list of organizations that People s United Community Foundation supported during the first grant cycle of 2014, please refer to the chart provided or visit www.pucf.org. Established in 2007, People s United Community Foundation was formed to help support programs and activities that enhance the quality of life for citizens in the communities that People s United Bank serves. People s United Bank, founded in 1842 and serving customers from New York to Maine through a network of more than 400 branches, is the largest independent bank headquartered in New England. The Foundation places special emphasis on programs designed to promote economic selfsufficiency, education and improved conditions for low-income families and neighborhoods. The funding priorities of the Foundation include community development, youth development, and affordable housing. ###
