FALL & WINTER ACTIVITIES GUIDE Check out our activities guide for all the upcoming fall and winter events and programs. Our Facebook page- City of Alamosa Activities- is another great way to be informed of updates. YOUTH SPORTS & ACTIVITIES Youth Soccer: official registration has ended (8/16), but some spots in each division remain open. Sign up soon to secure a spot. Games are Sept 16 to Oct 21; ages 4-14. Youth Flag Football: registration for kids in grades 2nd-6th continues through Aug 31. Sessions for this clinic-style program will begin Sept 5 and run through mid-oct. High Altitude Challenge: this fun run for kids, ages 13 and under, is a free event. Those completing all three races earn a commemorative t-shirt. Race days are Wed's, Sept 13, 20, and 27. ADULT SPORTS & ACTIVITIES Women's Basketball: there are two format options for league this fall- traditional 5v5 full-court play or new 3v3 half-court play. Team and player registration are both open; teams must sign up by August 31. Visit our website for more league details. Painting and Ceramics courses are open for registration through the Recreation Center or online at AlamosaRec.org. Upcoming Community Events Weekends on the Rio (Sundays @ Cole Park)

Join us for a day full of outdoor fun at Cole Park, Rio Grande Farm Park, and on the Rio Grande. There are activities for all ages and ability levels. Kids can track their participation using our passports for a chance to win some awesome prizes at the end of the summer. Passports are available the day of or from our partner locations listed on our website. Pre-concert Activities o 11:30 AM - outdoor storytime at the Rio Grande Farm Park-meet us there or at the pedestrian bridge to walk over o 1 PM - Zumba or Boot Camp (alternating weekends) o 2 PM - Yoga from Cairn Yoga o 3-6 PM - join Adams State Adventure Programs on the Rio with stand up paddleboarding o 3:30 PM - bike pump track workshop at the north end of Cole Park every other weekend o 4:30 PM - the local Walk2Connect group, Caminos del Valle, will lead a walk starting and ending at the Sundays at Six stage We hope you will stick around for the main event at 6 PM the Alamosa Live Music Association's Sundays at Six concert. About Weekends on the Rio: Weekends on the Rio is a multi-event program that takes place in Alamosa, Colorado during the summer and throughout the year. Activities include an expanded Sundays at Six concert series and outdoor activities such as yoga, running clinics, bike pump tracks, paddle boarding, and farm workdays at the Rio Grande Farm Park. A generous grant from Colorado Health made this program possible. Our partners that created this great event include The City of Alamosa, Rio Grande Farm Park, Boys & Girls Clubs of the San Luis Valley, Adams State University Adventure Program (ASAP), Walk2Connect, Body Tune-Up Gym, Kristi Mountain Sports, Cairn Yoga, and ALMA. Sundays at Six started a number of years back and has grown into a hallmark of the San Luis Valley summertime season. During the most beautiful months in our fair valley the community is exposed to all kinds of music, performed by everyone from the neighbor down the street to nationally recognized touring musicians. Free Admission at the Great Sand Dunes (August 25) Celebrate the National Park Service Birthday with Free Admission to explore the Great Sand Dunes National Park and Preserve! Contact Phone: 719-378-6395 37th Annual Early Iron Festival @ Cole Park (September 1-3) The Early Iron Festival is one of Alamosa's, as well as the surrounding area s, premier events. The festival brings visitors from Colorado, New Mexico, Texas, Arizona, Utah and Kansas. The show, which started some 37 years ago, now draws well over 600 rodders and street car enthusiasts. The Early Iron Festival is a 3 day event starting on Friday and ending on Sunday. It s full of parties, music, vintage nitro, pin-striping, slow cruising, and of course, awesome hot rod displays! Website: www.earlyironclub.com Location: Cole Park San Luis Valley Potato Festival (September 9) Join us for a day of fun and activities for the whole family at Chapman Park! Visit scenic Monte Vista, CO from 8:00AM-4:00PM for our annual Potato Festival to celebrate the harvest of delicious Colorado Potatoes! The day will be filled with fun activities and events like the Tater Trot 5K Race, Music, Crafts, Guided Tours, Kid s Games, Professional Chefs, our famous Mashed Potato Dunk Tank, freshly harvested Colorado Potatoes & Much More! The day will end with a concert in Ski Hi Park at 5:00PM featuring Country music artist Brooke Eden. Tickets available at Colorado Potato Administrative Committee,1305 Park Avenue in Monte Vista, CO.
