Leadership Legacy Eligibility: To be eligible for this award, the person must be an enrolled student providing leadership through a student organization recognized by UISG, ECGPS, the Center for Student Involvement & Leadership, the Department of Recreational Services, or an academic department. Criteria: The successful student for this award will have made a lasting, significant contribution to their organization and/or The University of Iowa community. Most Improved Student Organization Eligibility: To be eligible for this award, the student organization should have been providing leadership and service to The University of Iowa between March 29, 2013 and the present. The organization must be recognized by UISG, ECGPS, the Center for Student Involvement & Leadership, the Department of Recreational Services, or an academic department. Criteria: The successful organization for this award will have displayed significant effort for the improvement of the organization and therefore exhibited considerable progress in the development of the group. Criteria: The successful organization for this award will have demonstrated significant motivation, creativity, innovation, and perseverance. This could be demonstrated through the following: Successful recruitment of members Created new, interesting, and well-attended programs and events Provided new opportunities for students to participate in the community Collaborated with other student organizations or University departments Established a plan to transition future leaders to ensure continued organizational growth. Outstanding Community Partner Eligibility: To be eligible for this award, the Outstanding Community Partner (either on-campus or off-campus) should have provided assistance and support to a University of Iowa student organization between March 29, 2013 and the present. Service must have been provided to a student organization recognized by UISG, ECGPS, the Center for Student Involvement & Leadership, the Department of Recreational Services, or an academic department. Only community partners are eligible for this award. A community partner is defined as a department, organization or agency, either on-campus or off-campus, that assists in the success of a student organization. Criteria: For this award, the successful community partner should have displayed significant effort, made a meaningful contribution, and have supported University of Iowa students. This could be demonstrated through the following: Working in collaboration with a student organization to enhance its mission, vision, or goals. Provided support in programming or event planning. Outstanding Diversity Awareness Program Eligibility: To be eligible for this award, the organization s program/event must have occurred between March 29, 2013 and the present. The sponsoring organization must be recognized by UISG, ECGPS, the Center for Student Involvement & Leadership, the Department of Recreational Services, or an academic department. The program/event must have been student initiated, directed, and/or implemented. Criteria: The successful program/event for this award should have focused on campus diversity or diversity issues, and encouraged acceptance and respect. This could be demonstrated through the following: Program provided The University of Iowa community with an educational or entertaining program/event focused on diverse views, backgrounds, or experiences, or increased the awareness of diversity issues. Program promoted and reflected the values of social justice, multiculturalism, and/or diversity. This award will be presented to an organization that coordinated and managed a fiscally sound, well-planned diversity awareness program open to all University students. Outstanding Philanthropic Contribution to the UI Campus by a Student Organization (Sponsored by the University of Iowa Foundation) Eligibility: To be eligible for this award, the student organization must provide philanthropic leadership to the UI campus by giving of their time, talent, and resources. The organization must be recognized by the Student Governments at Iowa, The Center for Student Involvement & Leadership, The Department of Recreational Services, or an Academic Department. The organization must have made its outstanding contribution between March 29, 2013 and April 2013. Award: The recipients in this category will receive a $250 award from the University of Iowa Foundation to be deposited into their student organization account. Criteria: The successful organization for this award will have displayed significant effort for the improvement of the UI campus through philanthropic leadership. This could be demonstrated through any of the following: For the purpose of this award, philanthropy includes both service and philanthropic activity for the UI Campus. Inspired and motivated others to act philanthropically, and exemplified leadership and integrity in all words and actions. Provided exemplary service, commitment, and strong leadership to the UI campus and was committed to working with and for others. Made a meaningful contribution to The University of Iowa through philanthropy. Identified an existing problem and demonstrated initiative by seeking ways to address that problem through philanthropy. The collaborative effort must have been student initiated, directed, and/or implemented. Examples might include a onetime, successful collaboration for a program/event between two or more organizations or a single organization that has successfully collaborated with other organizations (one or more) in programmatic efforts. Criteria: The recipient of this award should have made meaningful contributions to The University of Iowa community through collaborative efforts (either throughout the year or a single successful program). This could be shown through the following: Demonstrating the collaborative spirit through work with numerous organizations or a one-time collaborative effort between two or more organizations. Programming that enhanced The University of Iowa community and institutional values of collaboration and initiative by utilizing a creative and unique approach. Explored and fostered innovative and efficient ways of reaching and involving diverse student audiences, while integrating the purpose of all organizations involved. Outstanding Student Organization Leader Eligibility: To be eligible for this award the person must be an enrolled student providing leadership and service to the greater community through at least one student organization recognized by UISG, ECGPS, the Center for Student Involvement & Leadership, the Department of Recreational Services, or an academic department. The student must have provided leadership and service between March 29, 2013 and the present. Criteria: The successful student for this award will have displayed significant effort for their student organization. This could be demonstrated through the following: Displayed outstanding academic achievement, valued diversity, motivated and inspired others and exemplified integrity in all words and actions. Provided exemplary service, commitment, and strong leadership to The University of Iowa community and demonstrated on-going flexibility, creativity, and perseverance in efforts. Made a meaningful contribution to students, University, and surrounding communities while working with and for others (ex. included other organizations/departments in planning and implementing events). Was willing to address existing problems and valued feedback from others. Made herself/himself available to group members and brought out strengths and talents of individual group members. Demonstrated initiative by seeking ways to enrich the future. What leadership qualities does this person possess that make them an effective student organization leader? Unsung Hero Eligibility: To be eligible for this award the person must be an enrolled student involved in at least one student organization recognized by UISG, ECGPS, the Center for Student Involvement & Leadership, the Department of Recreational Services, or an academic department. The student must have been a member between March 29, 2013 and the present and should not hold a leadership position. Criteria: The successful student for this award will have demonstrated a significant contribution to their organization, without holding a leadership position. This could be demonstrated through the following: Provided leadership to the organization through action not position. Served as a role model and exerted a positive influence on his/her peers through unexpected leadership. Demonstrated initiative and encouraged participation in the organization. Made a meaningful contribution to students and/or the organization. What leadership qualities does this person possess that make them an effective student organization leader? Provide a situational example of a time when they demonstrated this. What particular quality distinguishes this person from the positional leaders/officers who provided influence upon the organization? What initiatives did the student implement or improve within the organization? Many outstanding student organization members will apply/be nominated for this award.
