This is a public health and ethical issue because medical errors can result in unnecessary deaths, injuries, and expenses. As medical knowledge and technology continue to improve at a rapid pace, it is important that all healthcare providers continue to improve their quality-of-care and keep patient safety at the forefront. As a leader in quality and safety, is uniquely positioned to begin the regional conversation regarding quality improvement strategies for all learners. This year s conference seeks to educate learners on care coordination, health information technology to reduce errors, professionalism to improve patient safety, quality improvement in an ambulatory setting and ethical concerns with quality improvement projects. TARGET AUDIENCE Health professionals and students within the Texas Medical Center and Houston region. OBJECTIVES At the conclusion of the conference, participants should be able to: Identify diseases that may benefit from care coordination Implement health information technology to reduce errors Apply methods to reduce unprofessional behavior to improve patient safety Implement quality improvement in an ambulatory setting Identify ethical concerns with quality improvement projects EDUCATIONAL METHODS Lecture Question and Answer Session Small Group Breakout Sessions Poster Session EVALUATION Evaluation by online questionnaire will address program content, presentation, and possible bias. Call for Abstracts The 5 th Annual Quality Improvement and Patient Safety Conference will offer all health professionals and students interested in quality and safety an opportunity to present their ideas in an interactive forum. The conference will highlight a peer-reviewed selection of quality and safety research projects and program innovations. We encourage all types of submissions involving quality and safety, which may include quality improvement projects, patient safety initiatives, educational innovations, or similar topics. Deadline Deadline for abstract submission is Friday, February 16, 2018 at 5:00PM CST.
