Camp Konza JCLC JROTC Cadet Leadership Challenge 2014
Camp Purpose To motivate and build confidence in young Americans in a military setting by developing critical leadership skills and improving self confidence.
Objectives HAVE FUN!!!! Experience new and challenging events Develop necessary leadership skills Improve self confidence Inspire and emphasis teamwork Teach life skills Develop friendships
Who and Where? The cadets of Leavenworth High, Topeka West High, Garden City, Junction City, Wichita Public Schools. Camp is held this year at Kansas Regional Training Center, Scanlan Ave, (Shilling Airbase) Salina, KS.
When? Camp will run from Sunday, 22 June to Saturday, 28 June 2014. Graduation is at 1000 in the KRTI Auditorium on 28 June.
Why Camp Konza? Camp is named after the Native American Indian Tribe (Konza Indians) that the State of Kansas is named for. The patch has the Kansas state flower (Sunflower) and the JROTC Torch of knowledge.

What Camp Konza is not. It is NOT a basic training camp. However, Day1 is extremely busy and cadets will be vigorously encouraged by the cadre to move out and complete training. It is NOT a disciplinary camp. However, discipline will be strictly enforced. Cadets will be expelled from camp if you violate camp policies
How will we be organized? Two cohort companies of two platoons each Each of you assigned a camp buddy, nobody moves alone in camp outside of the barracks. Leaders will rotate daily Leaders will be evaluated by cadre daily
TACS and Staff Training and Counseling Officers (TACs) are indicated by a red shirt. Primary interface here at camp. DO NOT ask your JROTC instructor questions, ask your leadership and they will ask the TACs. Staff indicated by grey shirts. Do not talk to them unless spoken to.
Barracks Keep clean at all times - Beds are made, bedding tucked in under mattress - Shoes aligned under foot of bed - Hanging area neat orderly - Floor swept, latrines cleaned daily - All gear packed away in your bags daily (except dirty clothes)
Barracks (cont) Chaperons in each barracks (ma am or sir) When cadre comes into pods, the pod comes to attention When cadre is moving, get out of their way (MAKE WAY!)
Behavior While at Camp You will render the appropriate military courtesy at all times including to cadet leadership. Chow line= parade rest, no talking Chow hall- eat all you take (at least one protein, one carb, and veggies), no sweets, no pops. Salad bar is fine. You may talk during chow, however, when I am done, you are done.
Camp Expulsion Non-negotiable, no second chances Things that will get cadets expelled - Prohibited substances - Weapons - PDA - Males/Females in wrong dorms - Swearing/cursing/disrespect - Violence/threatening other cadets - Refusing to participate - Any other action which is not keeping with good order and discipline
Medical Care Mr. Hollis is the medical support team. All meds (to include OTCs) are to be turned in to them. If you need medical assistance, see him. Notify your chain of command where you are going!!!
Daily Details Will be completed prior to departure for training. Battalion CO and SGM are responsible to the senior TAC/CSM for completion. Posted on bulletin board. Includes flag detail (raising/lowering)
Daily Knowledge Review training schedule and details each day, ensure you know what is happening. Each day, a leadership quote and will be posted on the bulletin board. Know it by the time you arrive at chow!!
Leadership Evaluation Each cadet will serve in a leadership position. Evaluation is based on 14 Leadership traits and includes: Judgment Followership Enthusiasm Loyalty Initiative Tact Endurance Knowledge
Graduation 28 June, 1000 You will be awarded the summer camp, adventure training, orienteering ribbons, and completion certificate. Parents invited and encouraged to attend.
