The Not-So-Scary TEEN Conference Update on care for the Adolescent Years Saturday, October 13, 2018 Eilan Hotel and Spa, Conference Overview Caring for the teen brings a new set of challenges for the caregiver. Developmental, psychosocial and other concerns impact your plan of care in addition to the adolescent s medical needs. Young adulthood is often characterized with major transitions including physical and emotional development. This age group often falls in between the cracks of the pediatric office and the family physician. This conference is geared to explore the transition from child to young adult and the medical and psychosocial issues that go along with that evolution. Our topics will focus on common issues in adolescent development including acne, scoliosis, vaping, amenorrhea, anxiety & depression, transgender issues as well as general screening and legal issues. We hope to provide clinical tools that you can utilize in your practice to support the teen and family through the tricks and treats of the adolescent years. Target Audience Target Audience The conference is designed for physicians specializing in pediatrics, family practice, and general practice as well as nurses, nurse practitioners and all allied health professionals who work with teenagers. Accreditation CME Category 1: The designates this live educational activity for a maximum of 7 AMA PRA Category 1 Credit(s) TM. Physicians should claim credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity. The is accredited by the Texas Medical Association to provide continuing medical education for physicians. Medical Ethics and Professional Responsibility The Clarifying the Issues when the Teen Patient Becomes a Legal Adult presentation has been designated by the for one (1) hour of education in the area of medical ethics and/or professional responsibility for physicians. Nurses: is an approved provider of continuing nursing education by the Texas Nurses Association Approver, an accredited approver by the American Nurses Credentialing Center s Commission on Accreditation. This activity provides up to 7.16 contact hours.

Conference Objectives Through lecture, demonstrations, case presentations, and questions/answer discussion, participants will be able to: 1. Describe various screening tools available for appropriate workup of the teen patient 2. Discuss new treatment options to manage acne 3. Assess the teen for anxiety or depression and develop a treatment plan 4. Examine the trends in social media and how it affects the teenager 5. Discuss the various issues that arise when working with the transgender teenager 6. Describe new developments in the management of scoliosis 7. Examine abilities and limits of the high functioning autistic teen as they transition into adulthood 8. Discuss health risks of vaping in the teenager 9. Examine causes and treatment of dysfunctional menses 10. Describe legal boundaries for physicians and parents when the teen patient becomes of legal age Hotel Information ACCOMMODATIONS The conference will be held at the Eilan Hotel and Spa, (for GPS use 17103 La Cantera Pkwy, San Antonio, TX 78256). Located just outside 1604 off IH-10 West, the Eilan Hotel and Spa is about a mile from The Shops at La Cantera, The Bass Pro Shop, Palladium Movie Theater and The Rim Shopping Center.
