Local 26 Educational Development Trust Table of Contents Page 3-4: Contact/Location Information Page 5-11: Training Schedule Southwest Washington Pipe Trades Brothers and Sisters, As our year draws to an end, I would like to thank all of the membership of local 26 for helping make this a successful year at Southwest Washington Pipe Trades. I would like to give a special thank-you to my staff Elysha Peters, who does a tremendous job in helping me with all the work behind the scenes to make things happen. I would also like to give special thanks to my entire staff of instructors, whether currently working for us or not. These individuals perform day in and day out to the highest industry standards. They have filled in on short notice and gone above and beyond the call of duty to help train our membership! Their thankless dedication makes what we do in training possible! We will continue to do our best to support the training needs of our industry. When we are notified of an upcoming job requirement, we do our best to put together the training needed. Just like on the job, planning is the key to success. Sometimes we have to put a course together on short notice, so I would ask that you bear with us through that process. I am proud to announce the recent award received by one of our 5 th year plumbing apprentices, Shalma Wellington. She was the recent recipient of the award for Trades Woman of the Future, presented at the Ballard Elks Lodge by the Washington Women in the Trades organization. Congratulations Shalma! This also leads me to announce that there will be a women s support group established in 2013. This idea was brought to me by another outstanding apprentice, Adawnya Shields. Ms. Shields and Ms. Wellington both strongly support the idea, and will be instrumental in helping to get group established. The first meeting will be held on January 19, 2013 at our Lacey facility. The meeting is scheduled for 11 am, sort of a brunch if you will. The first meeting will be for getting to know one another, exchanging ideas and making plans for future meetings. We will be helping in getting that venture off the ground. The basic idea is to be a help and support line for new and current female apprentices, and to help actively recruit more women into the trade. Ms. Shields and Ms. Wellington will be looking for all the help and support possible from our Journey level women also to help make this idea a reality. I have volunteered to help disseminate information and help establish the first meeting here in Lacey. We will be happy to accept phone calls and help pass contact information as requested. We can only pass on contact information if an individual leaves it with us. Company policy prohibits passing out information without written permission from the individual. In closing, I am encouraged looking forward. I believe that the next generation of UA mechanics being trained will carry on our proud tradition. I am pleased to be a part of that future!
