JOB DESCRIPTION UNIFORMED VOLUNTEER POLICE RESERVE City of Fridley, Minnesota Date: April 12, 2018 Position Title: Uniform Volunteer Police Reserve Department/Division: Police Department Grade: N/A Salary range: Unpaid FLSA Status: N/A Position Reports And Is Accountable To: Police Sergeant ORGANIZATIONAL MISSION: In 2014, the Fridley City Council adopted the following organizational mission: We believe Fridley will be a safe, vibrant, friendly and stable home for families and businesses. In addition, City staff committed to the vision by focusing on the core values of being responsive, driven and friendly. POSITION OBJECTIVE: To assist sworn police officers in their duties. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: 1. Provide assistance to public safety operations at community events, natural disasters, and other emergencies. 2. Provide supplementary park patrol. 3. Assist with transporting prisoners and juvenile status offenders. 4. Provide security to City facilities. 5. Perform motorist assists. 6. Operate assigned equipment and vehicles in accordance with department regulations and guidelines. OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS: 1. Assist all units within the Police Department, as directed. 2. Assist in performing minor repair, service and maintain Police automobiles and selected equipment. 3. Provide assistance to other City departments and other cities.
4. Attend monthly law enforcement development training meetings. 5. Perform other duties as assigned. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: 1. Must be 18 years of age. 2. Valid Minnesota driver's license with good driving history and no restrictions. No prior arrests other than minor traffic violations. No more than two traffic violations in one year. 3. Working knowledge of English, spelling, grammar, punctuation, and vocabulary so as to write legible and comprehensive reports. 4. Must be in good physical condition. See physical requirements for the position. 5. Must be a U.S. Citizen. 6. Must have high school diploma or equivalent 7. Must pass a criminal background and reference check process. 8. Must have completed one of the following: a. Anoka County Reserve Academy or other county academy b. Approved secondary education institution c. The state of Minnesota certified skills course d. Police Academy from Minnesota or another state e. A member in good standing of Fridley Police Explorer Program DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS: 1. Ability to make decisions using judgment and discretion in accordance with established policies and procedures. 2. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with supervisor, officers, and other departments and City employees. 3. Ability to maintain a positive image to the public. 4. Previous experience with diverse groups.
