Allegheny Conference 2018 Event Schedule The Allegheny Conference hosts several events throughout the year. These events provide our Regional Investors Council members with the opportunity to develop a deeper understanding of the opportunities and challenges facing the 10-county Pittsburgh region and how the public, private and non-profit sectors can mobilize to address obstacles and capture opportunities that improve the economic future and quality of life in the region. Below is the 2018 events schedule. Allegheny Conference Annual Meeting The Annual Meeting is the Allegheny Conference s signature event of the year, typically held in November. The program varies each year, but the purpose of the event is to highlight the major accomplishments of the past 12 months and provide RIC members as well as the entire region with a forward-looking projection for the coming year. Over 600 Regional Investors Council members, key community and economic development partners, influencers and decision makers, as well as local, state and federal elected officials attend the Annual Meeting each year. 2018 Chairman s Reception November 8 th Grand Staircase, Mezzanine Level, Carnegie Museum 5:00 5:45 p.m. 2018 Annual Meeting November 8 th Carnegie Music Hall, Carnegie Museum 6:00 p.m. Program, 7:00 p.m. Reception Regional Investors Council (RIC) Meetings RIC Meetings are held two-to-three times a year to update our members on progress against our Agenda and to gather input on opportunities and challenges facing the region. RIC Meetings are attended by roughly 250-300 members of the Regional Investors Council, as well as key community and economic development partners and elected officials from across southwestern Pennsylvania.

2018 RIC Meetings: 1 st Quarter RIC Meeting April 4 th Hotel Monaco 3:30 p.m. Registration, 4:00 p.m. Program, 5:15 p.m. Reception 2 nd Quarter RIC Meeting June 26 th Fairmont Pittsburgh 3:00 p.m. Registration, 3:30 p.m. Program, 4:30 p.m. Reception Allegheny Conference Experiences Exclusively for members, the Conference will host two Experience programs in 2018. The Experiences, led by Conference and Affiliate board members, offer our Regional Investors an opportunity for on-the-ground exploration of the biggest opportunities and challenges that are facing the Pittsburgh region s future and that the Conference is working to address. By engaging our members through visits to communities, sites and organizations impacted by our work, the Experiences gives a first-hand look at the work on our Agenda and provide an innovative backdrop in which to gather member input and feedback. Examples of past Experiences: On the Road with Advanced Manufacturing Attendees of this Experience took a tour of ATI s Hot-Rolling Processing Facility in Brackenridge a $1.2 billion investment and saw how state-of-the-art technology is impacting manufacturing in our region. Those in attendance also heard about how robotics are enhancing and improving manufacturing and its workforce from the new, federally funded Advanced Robotics for Manufacturing (ARM) Institute. On the Road to Strengthening Our Communities During this Experience attendees witnessed the ongoing transformation of two participating Strengthening Communities Partnership communities, Wilkinsburg and Homewood, through a tour of the historic Wilkinsburg Train Station which is undergoing a $2.2 million renovation to include a cafe, event space and mixed-used developments and the commercial and housing developments fostering economic renewal in Homewood. They also heard from community leaders on how these investments are providing new opportunities in their areas and what it means for the future of our region. 2018 Proposed Experiences: Infrastructure/Mobility This Experience will focus on the state of our current transportation infrastructure system and highlight existing plans that aim to enhance connectivity in two key corridors:

Oakland/Downtown (BRT) and the Pittsburgh International Airport. Attendees will learn about the impact of the BRT on the Oakland/Downtown transportation corridor, as well as the importance of improving the connectivity of our region s business centers and the Pittsburgh International Airport, including its $1 billion terminal development project. Regional Message, Brand and Image In a global marketplace where the competition for talent, resources and business investment is intense, place branding has become an increasingly important strategy used by cities and regions to improve their economic futures. A clear, consistent message allows a region to better build and maintain its reputation and image with prospective investors whether they are coming to work, invest or play. The 2018-19 Agenda presents a timely opportunity for the Conference to engage with a diverse group of stakeholders to develop a regional message and brand that can be used by private, public and non-profit sector partners. An Experience is planned to demonstrate the importance of a unified regional brand and image and engage members in the process. Special Topic Briefings Exclusively for members, Special Topic Briefings, which feature local and national subject matter experts, are designed to keep our RIC members informed and up to date on the most critical issues facing the region and impacting our economy and quality of life. Approximately 50-75 members of the RIC and key community and economic development partners attend each Special Topic Briefing. Examples of past Briefings include: A Conversation with Dr. William Frey: Shifting National Demographics & the Impact on Pittsburgh The board of the Pennsylvania Economy League of Greater Pittsburgh, in partnership with the City of Pittsburgh s Welcoming Pittsburgh initiative, hosted a Special Topic Briefing on Shifting National Demographics & the Impact on Pittsburgh. The event featured Dr. William Frey, an internationally regarded demographer, Senior Fellow at the Brookings Institution s Metropolitan Policy Program, and author of Diversity Explosion: How New Racial Demographics Are Remaking America. Attendees gained a better understanding of the implications that changing national demographics will have on our region. A Conversation with Governor Jeb Bush The Allegheny Conference, in partnership with Buchanan Ingersoll & Rooney, hosted former Florida Governor Jeb Bush to hear Governor Bush s perspectives on issues of interest and concern to our region s business community including energy, workforce and education, and the current state of American politics. 2018 Proposed Special Topic Briefings: Summer 2018 Economic Inclusion A key challenge facing our region is the absence of diversity and disenfranchised populations,

especially the African American community. This Special Topic Briefing will provide an indepth look at this regional challenge and how the Conference in collaboration with partners is addressing this community need. Fall 2018 Economic Development 101 + Lessons Learned from the Amazon Bid Amazon disrupted the traditional site selection process when it publicly announced last October it sought proposals for its HQ2. At this Special Topic Briefing, we ll discuss the economic development process from marketing to site selection and incentives. We will also look at emerging trends in location decision making, as highlighted by the Amazon HQ2 bid as a region. December 2018 2018 Election Recap What it Means for 2019 This Special Topic Briefing will recap the 2018 Election and preview what to expect in 2019. ATHENA Awards Program of Greater Pittsburgh The Greater Pittsburgh ATHENA Award and ATHENA Young Professional Award recognize exceptional women who demonstrate excellence in their profession, contribute to their community and help other women to succeed through mentorship. This is an eight-month program culminating with a fall awards luncheon. Greater Pittsburgh Chamber of Commerce Legislative Receptions The Greater Pittsburgh Chamber of Commerce holds three signature annual receptions to help strengthen relationships between our region s business leaders, elected officials and other stakeholders, and to celebrate shared accomplishments. Held in Harrisburg (in partnership with the Chamber of Commerce for Greater Philadelphia), Washington, D.C. and Pittsburgh. 2018 Chamber Receptions: PA Legislative Harrisburg Reception June 4, 5:00 7:00 p.m. More than 300 business leaders, key stakeholders and over 100 PA House and Senate members, the Governor and members of the Governor s Cabinet attend each year. The Chamber also hosts, with the Chamber of Commerce for Greater Philadelphia, key state policymakers for a discussion prior to the reception (Noon 5:00pm) specifically focused on our joint agenda. Washington, D.C. Reception - September 5, 5:00 7:00 p.m. The more than 300 attendees to this event include members from our Pennsylvania Congressional Delegation, as well as members from Ohio and West Virginia. In addition, over 100 congressional staffers attend. In addition to the reception, we also visit Capitol Hill and other key policymakers for meetings focused on our federal agenda.

Public Officials Pittsburgh Reception December 13, 5:30 7:30 p.m. 2017 was a record year for the December Public Officials Reception, nearly 300 including federal and state legislators, county executives, local officials and many prominent business and civic leaders attended the reception. Pittsburgh Regional Alliance (PRA) Real Estate Event PRA Real Estate Events are designed to provide our region s real estate and economic development communities with networking opportunities and insights from industry leaders and experts. RIC members in the commercial real estate and related fields are invited to attend the real estate events. The PRA will hold one Real Estate Event in the fall of 2018. Roughly 100 guests attend. Examples of past Real Estate Events include: 2017 Spring Real Estate Breakfast In 2016, Shell Pennsylvania Chemicals announced its commitment to construct a cracker facility in Beaver, Pa. Attendees got an inside look at how the Pittsburgh region can leverage this opportunity. Denise Brinley from the Pennsylvania Department of Community and Economic Development and Phil Hopkins from IHS Markit presented findings from a study performed by IHS: Prospects to Enhance Pennsylvania s Opportunities in Petrochemical Manufacturing. Russel Burton from PepsiCo also discussed trends in corporate real estate and provided insight on how PepsiCo manages its global real estate portfolio. 2017 Fall Real Estate Breakfast Those in attendance had an exclusive, in depth look at the Brookings Institution study of Pittsburgh s innovation assets and strategies for inclusive growth in the competitive global economy. The study, Capturing the Next Economy: Pittsburgh s Rise as a City of Global Innovation, is the result of an 18-month initiative driven by a historic collaboration of anchor institutions that play key roles in the regional economy. Pittsburgh Regional Alliance Innovation Economy Event As part of our agenda to Create a Next Generation Economy for All the Conference seeks to support the development of robust innovation ecosystem that translates research and development assets into jobs and investment. In collaboration with partners representing the region s innovation economy, the Conference s economic development affiliate, the PRA, will host a special event in late summer of 2018 on the economic potential of the innovation economy and how the region can work together to achieve it.

Pittsburgh Regional Alliance (PRA) Tech & Innovation Media Tour The PRA Tech & Innovation Media Tour is a sponsorship opportunity only. The tour will be an inbound tour for domestic and international journalists from influential technology and innovation publications, including both new and traditional media outlets, to introduce a number of the drivers of our region s innovation and tech economy. Typically a three-day event, this tour will showcase our diverse tech and innovation assets, including unique startup companies and industry movers and shakers, as well as provide access to behind-thescenes university R&D, commercialized technologies and personalities that are raising the region s profile as a hub of innovation with global impact. In 2015, the PRA received a Silver Excellence Award from the International Economic Development Council for its media tours.
