Neff mentioned the American Legion Legacy scholarship. Application can be filled out at www.legion.org/scholarship/legacy. It is open to children of post 9/11 veterans who died on active duty or have a combined VA disability rating of 50% or greater. Membership in the American Legion is not necessary. Membership: Moore: Current membership is at 168. Chaplain: Mantela : Neff surgery coming up. Jim Laude passed in December. Woodcock's mother in law passed. Storm has eye surgery. Wagner has joint surgery coming up. Finance Officer: Brooks : Report given subject to future audit. Current balance is $6029.47 as of 1/23/2018. All bills are paid to date. Trustees: Kidd: No report but a request to all to boycott the NFL. Robinson: At the American house a ceremony was held for about 150 people and a plaque was awarded to our team. Moore - No report. Special Committee Reports Start Helmet Passing to benefit Operation Injured Soldiers. Shelby Hall circulated the helmet liner for us. Members of the American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars were recognized. Southern Command Report: Bell: Meetings are held at 630 pm at Abbey Park on the fourth Wednesday of each month except December. 1/24/2018 will feature Bonnie Welbaum speaking on women in the army. Bear Hall will present at the February meeting. Please attend their meetings. Speakers are still needed for the March and April meetings. Contact John Bell if you have a story to tell. MWD Report: Weitlauf: The memorial is closed until March. The flags are down to save them from the ravages of winter. An Air Force dog and a Navy dog will be interred in the spring. Honor/Color Guard Report: Robinson: The IBEW asked a ceremony and the color guard performed at a charity hockey game and at MGM Grand Casino for the Michigan Fallen and Wounded. Fund Raising: Brown: This new committee has been formed and Bill Brown agreed to take its reins. On 5/18/18 a golf outing will be held at the Links of Novi. Unfinished business: Salvia: Movie on 2/11/18, Megan Levy. Jane will loan us her copy of it. Free but $3+ donation is requested to be given to the theater. Amvets breakfasts welcome all veterans on Wednesday mornings at Americus Coney & Grill, 167 S. Milford Road, Milford behind Tim Horton's and also on Friday mornings at The Highland Grille, 7265 Highland Road, M-59, on the south side of M-59, Waterford Mi, next to an auto wash and which has a green roof. Both breakfasts are from 7 to 9 am. AMVETS VFW Social is set for the second Wednesday of each month at the Highland VFW post beginning at 630 pm. VFW country breakfast is the second Saturday of each month at 9 am. American Legion Hosts bingo each Friday evening at 7 pm, early bingo is at 630 pm. A large jackpot is to be won by someone. Hamburger night is each Thursday beginning at 5 pm. Legion has a new chair lift down to the club room. Huntington Bank has VA loans where the bank pays 100% of the costs for a purchase or a refi. Primerica waives fees for veterans for their business plan. Bear Hall has Special Olympics raffle tickets. Use MyHealthevet for new ID cards from VA. New business: Constant Contact email lists: Bear will email all those who have unsubscribed to see if they want to receive our communications. Amvets Banquet is to be held at Bakers on 4/22/2018. Neff will arrange pizza. Ribs on the River will be held again in Central Park in July, 2018 per Don Green. The beneficiaries will be Ron Savages' charities. We need to control our donation spending or it will soon be all gone. Neff moved that all donations requested at the General Membership Meeting must be referred to our Executive Board (C0mmittee). The donation will be paid IF the Executive Board (Committee) approves. The decision of the Executive Board (Committee) is FINAL about that donation. This was the final motion after much discussion.
