Meet our Undergraduate Ambassadors School of Engineering 2017-18
What does Lunch Hosting Look Like? Admitted students can meet with a Rutgers Engineering student and see first-hand what the dining halls have to offer. This is also a great opportunity to learn more about the Rutgers student experience. This option is open to students only during Mon-Thursday. Please bring $12 to cover lunch at our buffet-style dining hall. You will need to submit your request with at least 2-weeks notice. Requests are accommodated on a first-come, first-serve basis.
Adeela Monday: 1:30 PM 3:00 PM Tuesday & Wednesday: 12:00 PM 1:30 PM I am currently a junior, majoring in mechanical engineering. I am an international student from Pakistan, I came to America as a freshman at Rutgers University and currently live off-campus. I am a part of Rutgers Formula Racing Club (RFR) which is a club that aims at designing, building and optimizing a Formula One car to race in various different competitions. In addition to my engineering involvement, I am also a part of Nightshade which is Rutgers Women's Ultimate Frisbee Team. I also conducted research on campus with Dr. Howon Lee, a mechanical engineering professor, on a 3D multimaterial printing system that prints using a UV curable resin. Two other undergraduate students and I took over the project from a graduate student after his graduation. Since the system was already built, I had the opportunity to program the system to help run it more smoothly and efficiently. I also work as a tutor for the School of Engineering where I assist students STEM subjects such as writing, calculus, and physics. These experiences have helped me connect with people from different backgrounds, learn about new cultures, improve my time management skills, and gain experience in my field.
Akshay Monday & Wednesday: 12:00 PM 1:20 PM Tuesday: 1:20 PM 3:00 PM Thursday: 12:00 PM 3:00 PM I am currently a sophomore, majoring in Industrial Engineering and minoring in Economics. I am a commuter student. My hometown is East Brunswick, NJ. I am involved with engineering activities such as Engineering Governing Council. In addition to my engineering involvement I am also a part of Rutgers University Student Assembly, where I serve as a commuter representative, as well as part of RCSA and RU Progressive. I also hold a research position with Professor Jafari, where I am currently in charge of generating simulation results for alternative energies used to fuel net zero energy communities. This summer I was able to work extensively on this research as I was awarded the Rutgers Energy Institute Summer Internship. These experiences have enhanced my leadership skills as well as my ability to effectively communicate with others. Ultimately, my experiences both within and outside of the School of Engineering has greatly shaped my ability to improve and continue to succeed at Rutgers.
Alex Monday: 1:30 PM 3:00 PM Tuesday: 12:00 PM 3:00 PM Wednesday & Thursday: 1:40 PM 3:00 PM I am a Junior studying Materials Science and Engineering. I am from Roxbury, NJ. My freshman year I lived in Barr Hall, which is part of the engineering living leaning community. At Barr Hall, I became involved in the Residence Hall Association, which is the student government within a hall and learned that I really enjoyed being involved in Res life here at Rutgers. Due to that found passion, I became an RA, and I am serving as one now for the second year in the Bishop Quad on College Avenue. Within Engineering I have been involved in SWE, SPE, and MA, which have all allowed me to meet many awesome engineers. Outside of engineering, I have been involved in RPDC the Rutgers Performing Dance Company, because prior to college I was a competitive dancer for 10 years. I have also been involved in Research over the past few years. I started out through the Aresty Summer Science Program, where I began working for Dr. Lynch and Dr. Nosker in assisting in reinforcing polyisoprene surgical gloves with graphene, for increased puncture resistance. I continue working in this lab working with reinforcing various polymers with graphene. Over this past summer I tutored for the EOF program, helping prepare incoming freshmen for a smoother transition into their first few semesters. Additionally, this year I will be teaching my FIGS course on Engineering for SAS students who want to transfer into this school!
Alisa I'm from Jersey City, New Jersey. I am currently majoring in Biomedical Engineering and pursuing a minor in Business Administration. Over the years, I have lived on every campus except Busch, as well as lived in off-campus apartments. Outside of classes, I have been a part of the Engineering Governing Council as a Society Rep, and the American Society of Concrete Canoe Team, where we build a canoe out of concrete, and then get in it and race it against other schools. I was previously a part of the Rutgers Biomod Team, where we competed and presented our research at an international biomolecular design competition, hosted by the Wyss Institute. I transitioned my research of the fusion of proteins to my senior design project where we focused on enhancing wound healing in diabetic patients. I have also worked as a co-op for the company that makes Lysol and Mucinex, known as Reckitt Benckiser, and currently working as a co-op on the Product Engineering Team at Musculoskeletal Transplant Foundation. I'll be graduating in May 2018.
I am currently a junior, majoring in Biomedical Engineering. I currently reside in Richardson Apartments on Busch Campus. I am from Rahway, NJ, which is about 30 minutes from Rutgers. I currently serve as the Technical Excellence Chair for my organization, MEET and am a tissue engineering researcher in Dr. Olabisi s lab in the BME department. In addition to my engineering involvement, I am heavy into fitness and learning more about myself as a person. I also hold an engineering internship position with Nouveau Prosthetics & Orthotics where I create and modify prosthetics for amputees, scan babies for cranial growth deformities, and ensure that my mentor stays sane throughout the day. Allyson Monday, Tuesday & Thursday: 12:00 PM 3:00 PM Wednesday: 1:30 PM 3:00 PM I am a senior, majoring in Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering, and pursuing a minor in Computer Science. I'm from Woodbridge, New Jersey, about a half hour from campus. On campus, I'm involved with a couple of engineering organizations. I am the Guatemala Project Lead for a group called Engineers Without Borders. This is a student-run organization that works with professional engineering mentors to bring engineering knowledge from the classroom to real-world projects. I've been working on a project in Guatemala, helping a town repair their water system after it was destroyed by mudslides. I'm proud to say we just completed that project, and are hoping to open a new project this fall where we will be repairing a school building also in Guatemala. I am also involved with Engineers of Rutgers, an offshoot of Humans of New York designed to promote a sense of community within the School of Engineering by featuring interviews of students, faculty, and alumni on our Facebook page. In addition to my engineering involvement I am also heavily involved with music. I have been part of the marching band here since my freshman year, and this year I am the Vice President of Mu Beta Psi, the National Honorary Music Fraternity. We focus on outreaching to the surrounding music community to promote music as an educational subject. On top of all this, I work as a tutor for the School of Engineering. This is a free program provided to all undergrad students to work one-on-one with another student to strengthen knowledge taught in the classroom and help the students to succeed in their academics. During the school year, I live on Cook Campus, so I am very familiar with the bus system and getting around on campus.
I am a fourth year Mechanical Engineering student. I ve lived on Busch Campus since freshman year, starting at BEST, suites, and now the apartments but originally, I am from Egg Harbor Township, New Jersey. On campus, I ve been involved Chem-E-Car, and American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics. Previously, I researched under Professor Denda, and Professor Mazzeo where I was given the opportunity to research and fabricate a dragonfly and a jellyfish. In addition to my engineering involvement, on campus I participate in intramural volleyball and in my free time I enjoy cooking. Last fall, I was a Co-Op at Johnson & Johnson Ethicon as a R&D Engineer. I had the opportunity to work on medical devices that surgeons will use in their operating rooms once released. Emily Tuesday: 1:30 PM 3:00 PM Wednesday: 12:00 PM 1:20 PM Thursday: 1:40 3:00 PM I am currently a sophomore, majoring in Material Science Engineering with a focus in photovoltaics. I currently reside in B.E.S.T. East and my hometown is South Plainfield. I am involved with Society of Women Engineers. In addition to my engineering involvement, I am also part of Racquetball Club. I am going to join Students for Environmental & Energy Development and Peacemakers this semester so I can be more involved in the Rutgers community and influence the impact Rutgers makes on the environment. I am also an undergraduate researcher under Professor Birnie where we are currently developing a more efficient and affordable solar cell. My responsibilities range from writing and editing research papers, coding models used to predict the efficiency of tandem solar cells, and doing lab work to create a variety of solar cells and testing them for desirable qualities. These experiences have enhanced my skills in public speaking, brainstorming in groups, and problem solving, while gaining a broad scope of the vast opportunities Rutgers has to offer.
Erika Monday & Thursday: 12:00 PM 3:00 PM I am currently a sophomore majoring in Electrical and Computer engineering. I reside in Best Hall East on Busch campus. My hometown is Plainfield, New Jersey. I am a product of Rutgers Upward Bound and SoE EOF. I am also involved with WISO, MEET, EGC, Douglass Engineering Living Learning Community, WICS, and HACKHERS. Additionally, I also hold a research position in the Electrical and Computer Engineering department under Janne Lindqvist where I am currently working on human computer interaction with the community-based navigation application Waze. I also work at the Werblin Recreation center as a Front Desk assistant. Being involved with these organizations and programs have aided me by enhancing my time management skills and helping me communicate better with my peers and staff.
Hsinyo Monday:12:00 PM 1:20 PM Tuesday & Thursday: 12:00 PM 3:00 PM I am currently a senior majoring in Electrical and Computer Engineering. I have a minor in mathematics as well as a Packaging Engineering Certificate. I am a part of the Douglass Engineering Living Learning Community, which is a program that lends support to women in engineering and offers numerous opportunities in scholarships, internships, mentorships, and research. Currently, I am a commuter, but I have resided on Busch Campus in my previous semesters. My hometown is Harrison, NJ. Outside of class, I have been a part of Engineering Without Borders in the Guatemala and Tanzania projects. I am a member of Tau Beta Pi and Eta Kappa Nu, which are both national engineering honor societies. I am also an Alumni Industry Scholar. During my sophomore year, I was a Research Assistant in the Aresty Research program, working on an automated ergonomic chair design that optimizes sitting posture. This is a great program to get a feel for how research works and to be able to establish closer professional relations with professors and peers from various backgrounds working on different, interesting projects. Additionally, I had internship experiences in the past at two engineering consulting firms. My first internship was with ARUP, where I worked on various construction projects and design plans as an electrical engineering intern. My second internship was at AECOM, where I interned as an energy engineer.
Jaslin Monday & Wednesday: 12:00 PM 3:00 PM I am currently a master's student in the 5-year program, majoring in Civil and Environmental Engineering with a concentration in Structural Engineering. I am a commuter and went to high school in Edison, NJ. Since my freshmen year I have been involved with Engineers Without Borders and was the co-lead on the Guatemala Project. Last year, I was also the Vice President of Rutgers chapter for the American Society of Civil Engineers, and the Treasurer for Bridges to Prosperity. In addition to my engineering involvement, I am a part of RU Sikh and Habitat for Humanity. I also wanted to continue my passion for teaching here at Rutgers so I joined the Learning Assistant Program where I taught General Chemistry to students for three years. My junior year I held a research position with Aresty in which I made concrete plates with steel fibers to see the difference in strength of the concrete plates when three of them were joined together to make I-beams. My last three summers I've held internship positions, and will be working part-time this year with Hardesty & Hanover in New York City where I was interning as a Bridge Engineer this past summer.
I am currently a junior, majoring in Civil and Environmental Engineering. I currently reside in a house off of the College Avenue campus, and my hometown is Pelham, NY. I am involved with AWWA, Sigma Phi Delta, Sigma Alpha Pi, and ASCE. In addition to my engineering involvement I also volunteer as a cashier and I am a part of Meor and Chanad at Rutgers. I also had an internship position with the Jerusalem Bio-region Center where I designed a website and attended environmental meetings and conferences. Juilee Monday & Thursday: 1:40 PM 3:00 PM Tuesday: 12:00 PM 1:00 PM Wednesday 12:00 PM 3:00 PM I am currently a senior, majoring in biomedical engineering and applied kinesiology. I currently live off campus in Piscataway, but lived in honors housing my freshman and sophomore year. On campus, I am involved with Engineering Governing Council, serving as Vice President and have also been an RA for the engineering honors community. In addition to my engineering involvement, I am also a FIGS Instructor for a Careers in the Sciences class, for a women's living and learning community in Douglass College called Bunting Cobb. I also hold a research position in Shreiber lab, where I characterize 3-D printable collagen and develop new ways to more efficiently 3-D print the material. For the past two summers, I have also been researching on a different project that investigates cell force measurement, at Duke University's Materials Science and Engineering Research Center. Altogether, my experiences at Rutgers have challenged me to do more, while never running out of new spaces and experiences to explore.
Kristene Monday: 1:40 PM 3:00 PM Tuesday: 12:00 PM 3:00 PM I am a junior majoring in Electrical and Computer Engineering and minoring in Computer Science. I currently reside in an off-campus house, but I have lived both in Barr Hall (the all engineering dorm) and the Busch Suites. However, I am originally from Westfield, NJ. At Rutgers, I am involved with a couple of activities, such as Society of Women Engineers and the Douglass Residential College. I am also a MATLAB learning assistant and an Alumni-Industry Scholar. In addition, this semester I am doing research in applying convolutional neural networks to object detection. During the summers, I have conducted research at Princeton University in the field of quantum computing with Dr. Stephen Lyon, and I have interned at Lockheed Martin down in Moorestown, NJ. Outside of academics, I love playing team sports - one of my favorites being ultimate frisbee.
Lana Monday, Tuesday & Thursday: 12:00 PM 3:00 PM I m Lana and I am from Ocean City, NJ. I am currently a senior majoring in industrial and systems engineering. I currently reside in the yard on college avenue campus, but I lived on Busch for the past three years in various dorms, including the freshman year living learning community in Barr hall. In engineering, I am involved in a few organizations. I'm the president of the Institute of Industrial and Systems Engineers and a member of SWE, as well as a mentor in their SWE leaders and learners program. I'm also a scholar in the alumni industry scholars group, which is a scholarship from the school of engineering that has greatly helped fund my college education! In addition to my involvement in engineering clubs, I am a part of Alpha Gamma Delta, a social sorority on campus. In the past two summers, I have had internships in consulting and finance. After my sophomore year, I interned at Giant Eagle in Pittsburgh as an internal consultant on their business systems team. Last year, I interned in the marketing finance department at Mars Wrigley Confectionery at their chocolate headquarters in Hackettstown, NJ. After graduation, I plan to work at Deloitte doing federal consulting work! I have loved my time here as a Scarlet Knight, and I really enjoy the versatility and excitement of industrial and systems engineering. If you have any questions, please feel free to reach out!
Maggie Wednesday: 1:40 PM 3:00 PM Thursday: 12:00 PM 1:20 PM I am currently a senior, majoring in biomedical engineering. I live off-campus, with some of my teammates, in a house behind college avenue. I was born and raised in Middletown, Maryland. After high school I spent two years studying biology at Frederick Community College where I played collegiate soccer. During my spring semester of my sophomore year, I was assigned an open topic biology based research assignment where I presented on the topic of tissue engineering and regenerative medicine. During my academic research I developed a passion for the subject and decided to focus my studies on biomedical engineering. That readjustment fostered my decision to transfer to Rutgers University and I haven't looked back since. So, if you are a transfer student or an out of state student please don't hesitate to ask me any questions you may have. At Rutgers I am involved with Rutgers University Habitat for Humanity where I volunteer my time to help better the lives of others in the community. I also enjoy Rutgers athletics; in the fall I trained and competed with Rutgers Women's Rowing and in the spring I trained and competed with Rutgers Women's Rugby. My summer internship allowed me to work at the University of Pittsburgh and hold the position of an undergraduate research student with the Badylak Lab at McGowan Institute for Regenerative Medicine. Our research focused around the concept of the extracellular matrix and it's remarkable capabilities involving regeneration. Simply being a student at Rutgers University has allowed so many new opportunities for me which I would love to share with you!
Marco Monday & Thursday: 1:40 PM 3:00 PM Tuesday & Wednesday: 12:00 PM 3:00 PM I am from a small township across the river of Philadelphia. I am a senior majoring in Mechanical Engineering with a focus in energy. On campus I serve as the senator for the Minority Engineering Education Task where I represent the chapter on the national level as a member of our voting body. I also participate in research and previously held the position of Lead Research assistant on the Flapping Flight Project where we engineered a flying device called an ornithopter by simulating the flight of insects. In addition to tutoring during the semester through the Office of Student Services, I had the honor of working with the office this past summer as a residential staff member for the Engineers of the Future bridge program - a program that works to cultivate incoming engineering freshman from low income families and low resource school districts so that they will be prepared to tackle the curriculum upon their arrival.
Neel Tuesday: 12:00 PM 3:00 PM I am currently a senior, majoring in Biomedical Engineering with a minor in Chemistry. I currently reside in the Easton Ave Apartments, but I have spent the last three years on Busch in Barr Hall, McCormick Suits, and Richardson Apartments. I am originally from Plainsboro, NJ. I am the President of Alpha Eta Mu Beta, the BME honors society, and the Treasurer of Tau Beta Pi, the Engineering Honors Society. In addition to my engineering involvement I am also part of the American Medical Student Association and used to volunteer for TEDx Rutgers. During my freshman and sophomore years, I also briefly participated in intramural soccer. I currently hold a research position with Dr. Jeffrey Zahn where I am designing and developing a microcatheter that will allow for targeted drug delivery in brain and spinal tissue. I have also held previous research positions at NJCBM focused on animal surgeries examining nerve regeneration and with Dr. Cohen studying cardiovascular stem cells. These experiences have enhanced my work-ethic, dedication to improve my career, and expanded my views about life and the world as a whole.
Patrick Monday, Wednesday & Thursday: 12:00 PM 1:20 PM I am currently a Junior, majoring in Aerospace Engineering, with a minor in music and plan on pursuing the energy certificate. I currently reside in Silvers apartments here on Busch Campus. In the past, I have lived in the Busch Suites, and in Mattia, one of the first year Engineering dorm here on campus. My hometown is Mount Olive, which is about an hour north from Rutgers. My involvement on campus includes being a part of the Rutgers University Marching Band, where I have been honored with being one of three Drum Majors for the 2017-2018 season. Additionally, I am the current president of Mu Beta Psi, the national honorary musical fraternity, here at Rutgers University. These experiences have enhanced my time management, communication and leadership skills which have allowed me to become a well rounded student and help me excel here at Rutgers.
Shrey Monday Thursday: 12:00 PM 3:00 PM I am currently a senior, majoring in Civil and Environmental Engineering and I reside off-campus in Highland Park. I'm involved with Engineers Without Borders and have served as the Project Manager for their Kenya Water Supply Project. I have also been involved with Bridges to Prosperity, an organization that builds footbridges in areas suffering from rural isolation. I am currently a Senator for the School of Engineering in the Rutgers University Senate and will be serving as the Chair of the Career Advancement Committee of the Engineering Governing Council. In addition to my engineering involvement I have also been involved with Israel advocacy on campus through Rutgers Hillel. I served as the Director of Public Relations on the Hindu Students Council in the past and have also been on the university's official travelling Model UN Team. I've been to several conferences as a delegate on the Model UN Team and enjoy debating hot button topics in my spare time! This summer I interned with HDR as a structural engineering intern in their movable bridge design group. I have also been a CAD drafting intern and a Project Controls Intern with Habitat for Humanity in the past. I have performed research with Dr. Mazurek in the Environmental Engineering department on creating geospatial databases to track methane emissions in New Jersey and have worked as a research assistant in the Center for Advanced Infrastructure and Transport (CAIT) during my junior year. As a Research Assistant with CAIT I studied and compiled Non Destructive Evaluation methods for detecting defects in bridge elements for a project sponsored by NJDOT. These experiences have helped hone my public speaking, leadership and time management skills and have enabled me to be a wellrounded student.
Shubhra Monday & Thursday: 12:00 PM 3:00 PM Tuesday: 12:00 PM 1:30 PM I am currently a senior, majoring in computer engineering and minoring in computer science and economics. I currently reside in the Sojourner apartments on-campus housing. My hometown is Plainsboro, New Jersey. I am on the E-Board of Theta Tau, a co-ed Engineering society, the vice president of HKN (the honors electrical and computer engineering society), the student ambassador for the school of engineering, and a tutor within the Electrical and Computer Engineering Department. This past summer I interned at Goldman Sachs and had the chance to work on a variety of financial instruments within their Liquidity Risk Technology Team. The summer before that I interned with Prudential and had the chance to work on selection of financial products and security software. Previously, I have done research in Electrical and Computer Engineering department under Professor Lindqvist in Mobile Security. I have a publication for this research coming out this coming winter. These experiences and opportunities have made me a team-player, given me chances at leading group members and managing large projects and helped me learn a variety of academic and social skills. Sirin I am currently a senior, majoring in Chemical Engineering with a certificate in Packaging Engineering. I currently reside off-campus, near the College Avenue campus and I am originally from Boonton, New Jersey. I am involved with the Society of Hispanic Engineers as a member and help the executive board, I was the previous president. In addition to my engineering involvement I was part of Rutgers Consulting as the Corporate Relations and Director of marketing. I am currently the treasure for Sigma Lambda Gamma National Sorority Inc. which is a cultural sorority. I ve had many professional experience, I co-oped at Dannon as a Research and Development Engineer and did an internship at Johnson & Johnson as an Energy and Conservation intern. This past summer I did research in Greece about Sustainability and how that effects our living culture. After I graduate I will be working at Accenture as a full-time consultant. These experiences have enhanced my presentation, organizational and time management skills. I have also gained confidence in myself and have learned to work in teams.
Stephanie Tuesday & Wednesday: 12:00 PM 3:00 PM I am a junior, majoring in Mechanical Engineering and minoring in Computer Science. I currently live on Busch Campus, but freshman year I lived in the Honors College dorm on College Ave. My hometown is in Somerset, NJ. On campus, I am heavily involved with the Society of Women Engineers where I serve as the President. I am a Student Ambassador for the Honors College and was previously a Class of 2019 Representative for the Engineering Governing Council. I also hold a research position with Professor Benaroya from the Mechanical and Aerospace Department where I investigate and model inflatable and deployable structures for the lunar surface. In addition to my engineering involvement, I volunteer for Habitat for Humanity and enjoy playing tennis and swimming in my free time. This summer, I interned at Phillips 66 at their Bayway Refinery in Linden, NJ as a Project Engineer. I had the opportunity to manage and collaborate on multiple projects to upgrade and improve units in the refinery.
Tiffany Monday: 12:00 PM 3:00 PM Thursday: 12:00 PM 1:30 PM I am a sophomore majoring in Chemical Engineering with an intended double minor in Classics and Mathematics. Last year, I lived in the Honors College on College Avenue, and this year, I'll be residing in BEST North on Busch campus; however, I am originally from Clinton, NJ. At Rutgers, I am the Community Outreach Chair of Society of Women Engineers (SWE), which is a club dedicated to women empowerment in engineering with professional development and STEM outreach events to local schools, and the Secretary of American Institute of Chemical Engineers (AIChE). In addition to my engineering involvement, I am also involved as the Lead Ambassador of Training for the Honors College, which entails training ambassadors and organizing tours for prospective high schoolers, and a member of Rutgers Performing Dance Company. This past summer, I was a Residential Teaching Assistant at Governor's School of Engineering and Technology (GSET), where I mentored 72 rising high school seniors and led a research project on creating a wearable flexible solar cell charger. These experiences have taught me so much about leadership, gratitude, and exploring my passion.
Veronica Monday: 12:00 PM 2:00 PM Tuesday & Thursday: 12:00 PM 3:00 PM I am a current senior, majoring in Industrial and Systems Engineering and also working to complete a certificate in Packaging Engineering. I currently live in an on-campus apartment on Busch. I'm from Clifton NJ, which is about an hour north of here. I'm currently working on my capstone senior design project, which is designing a hybrid 3D printer, milling machine, and pick-and-place robotic arm. We're designing and coding it from scratch. On campus I'm involved with Engineers Without Borders, the Tanzania project. They work to provide clean and safe drinking water to communities in both their international and domestic projects. I am also involved with the STEAM club, which mixes STEM fields with art. They've held workshops on parametric design and virtual reality. I have spent the past four summers interning at Crestron Electronics in their Industrial Engineering department. This past summer I worked as a Plant Management intern on a cost analysis of printed circuit board components. This has given me a great opportunity to put what I've learned in the classroom into practice.
I come from Phoenix, AZ and I'm a senior studying Materials Science and Engineering. I'm fairly involved in research, which is conducted in the Fiber Optics building. In my research, I work on specialty fiber optics that are used in laser surgeries. As a result of my labors, last February I was able to go to San Francisco to present my research. I also spent this past summer at the University of Michigan doing a research internship in optics.
