2018-2020 IMR Plan The Infrastructure Maintenance and Renewal (IMR) Program of Alberta Education/Alberta Infrastructure provides funding to school divisions for three purposes: 1. To replace building and site components, which have failed or pose health and safety problems for students and staff; 2. To extend the useful life of school facilities and sites; and 3. To maintain the quality of the school environment. Holy Spirit Catholic Schools first priority in the management of its facilities is to ensure the health, safety and essential upgrade needs, including emergent projects, are met. It is recommended that a contingency be set aside to address emergency projects throughout the year. IMR funding may only be spent for approved purposes. These approved purposes are as follows: To ensure school facilities meet all regulatory requirements, particularly as they pertain to providing a safe and healthy learning environment; To preserve and improve the quality of the learning environment by: o Replacing building components that have failed, prolonging the life of the facility through planned, proactive replacement of major components, and upgrading of the educational areas to meet program requirements; o Meeting the facility requirements of students with diverse education needs; o Developing a plan for maintenance and renewal projects; and o Replacing or upgrading building components to improve energy conservation and efficiency and to achieve costs savings as a result. IMR Funds available for 2017/2018 are as follows: 2017/2018 funding $ 1,683,697 Previous year carry forward 3,825,683 Total 2017/2018 funds available $ 5,509,380 Since there is not enough funding for all needs identified as IMR projects, it is necessary to prioritize work based on the highest needs. These needs are identified through Alberta Infrastructure s facility audits, which are carried out on each facility every five to seven years, as well as our own local knowledge. New for 2017/2018 is also a requirement from Alberta Education that no less than 30% of IMR spending must be capital in nature. This new direction from Alberta Education may impede the Board s ability to prioritize its IMR projects in years where the capital requirements could conflict with the Board s highest needs. The 2017 IMR expenditure plan had $400,000 earmarked for supplementing the modernization project at St. Michael s School in Pincher Creek. Since no funds have been needed to date, we have reduced this to $250,000, which is the Board s commitment contained in the Grant Agreement with the Government of Alberta. Funding for the modernization did not cover the total cost of the modernization. The Board agreed to partially fund roof and window upgrades. 1

2018-2020 IMR Plan The modernization of St. Patrick School in Taber commenced in July 2018. $300,000 has been set aside to supplement modernization costs that may not be covered by the project. Should the funds not be required, they will be used in other IMR projects in the future. 2018 2020 IMR Expenditure Plan Summary 2017/2018 2018/2019 2019/2020 Total Catholic Central High West $ 2,000 $ 2,000 $ 2,000 $ 6,000 Catholic Central High East 201,609 76,791 382,129 660,529 Children of St. Martha 616,102 116,011 62,598 794,711 Ecole St. Mary 166,729 46,000 114,739 327,468 Father Leonard Van Tighem 177,175 421,636 241,878 840,689 Our Lady of Assumption 98,089 161,452 92,352 351,893 St. Catherine 210,574 26,073 10,354 247,001 St. Francis Junior High 291,436 367,715 401,943 1,061,094 St. Joseph 65,168 168,350 10,387 243,905 St. Mary's Taber 44,420 42,073 14,497 100,990 St. Michael's (Bow Island) 189,572 561,218 332,206 1,082,996 St. Patrick Taber 300,000 - - 300,000 St. Patrick Fine Arts 26,687 38,807 17,761 83,255 St. Paul 168,026 - - 168,026 St. Michael (Pincher Creek) 251,000 2,000 2,000 255,000 St. Teresa of Calcutta 16,000 - - 16,000 Preventative Maintenance - all schools 110,000 110,000 110,000 330,000 Contingency for emergent needs 289,000 214,000 179,500 682,500 Total $ 3,223,587 $ 2,354,126 $ 1,974,344 $ 7,552,057 2
