Information for Seniors MIDLAND HIGH SCHOOL CLASS OF 2014

COMMENCEMENT/GRADUATION Commencement will be held at 10:00 a.m.. on May 31, 2014 in the Chaparral Center at Midland College. Seniors must arrive at Chaparral Center by 8:30 a.m. You will not be allowed in after 9:00 a.m.

1. The last final exam scheduled for seniors ends at 9:20 a.m. on Wednesday, May 28 th. All coursework must be completed and submitted by that time. 2. All correspondence should have been completed by May 5, 2014. 3. All A+ coursework must be completed by Tuesday, May 27, 2014. 4. Have you made up all absences so that you will receive credit? All hours must be made up by Tuesday, May 27 th.

If you have received a scholarship, contact Mrs. Garcia (689-1103) no later than 4:00 p.m., Friday, May 23, 2014 in order for that information to be included in the graduation program. Those receiving scholarships will be recognized at graduation.

Graduation Tickets: You will be receiving 8 tickets for your family and friends to attend graduation. You will be issued the tickets at graduation practice. Families that submitted, in writing, their request to Mr. Horner will receive additional tickets based on availability and number of graduates. These tickets will be available for pick up in the trophy room on Friday, May 30 th from 9:00a.m. 12:00 noon. If you do not need all of your tickets, please plan to leave your extra tickets with us at graduation practice. We will give them to those who requested extra tickets. You will not receive your tickets if you have any obligations, textbook fines, or dues. Please see the book keeper for more information. If you painted your graduation spot, you must paint it back to black or pay $50 for us to paint it for you before May 29 th Big 2 will show commencement live.

Gowns are to be neatly pressed. They should be worn twelve inches from the floor. Tassels are worn on the left side, and will be changed to the right side after the student receives his/her diploma cover.

Ladies: dress suitable for church and dress shoes (no bright shoes, tennis shoes, or flip flops; can be open toe with closed or strapped back). No corsages, purses, wallets, car keys, ipods, phones, or other paraphernalia

Gentlemen: white shirt, tie, slacks or dress khakis (no blue, black or khaki jeans), dark colored socks and dress shoes or polished dress boots (no white shoes, tennis shoes, or flip flops). No wallets, keys, ipods, phones, or other paraphernalia.

No inappropriate jewelry of any kind should be worn by boys or girls: (i.e. tongue rings, nose rings, brow rings, etc.)

SENIORS ARE REMINDED THAT GRADUATION IS INTENDED TO BE A SOLEMN AND DIGNIFIED EVENT. INAPPROPRIATE BEHAVIOR WILL NOT BE TOLERATED. INDIVIDUALS EXHIBITING QUESTIONABLE CONDUCT WILL BE REMOVED IMMEDIATELY FROM THE SERVICES.

Cap and Gown in hand Do Not put it on. No phones No keys No purses No corsages No etc. You will be checked.. Do not have anything in your pockets. We will take it up and you will wait in line after graduation to get it back. Don t be late

Graduation photos and video will be taken. You will receive information on how to order them at graduation practice.

There is no reserved seating All seating is first come first served.

REHEARSAL FOR COMMENCEMENT WILL TAKE PLACE IN THE CHAPARRAL CENTER AT 8:45 a.m. ON Thursday May 29, 2013, AND WILL LAST APPROXIMATELY TWO HOURS. YOU MUST CHECK THE LISTS POSTED AT CHAPPARAL CENTER FOR YOUR SIDE, ROW, AND SEAT ASSIGNMENT. THIS WILL COUNT AS ONE DAY OF ATTENDANCE.

Instructions for Commencement Practice 2013 All students need to be in their assigned seats at MC's Chaparral Center by 8:45 a.m. Thursday, May 29th, to discuss check-in procedures and robing format. This is a regular school day, and attendance is required at practice. Seating assignments will be posted at all entrances. Find your name on the list and look for your seating code. A. Letters A through Z refer to your row designation; Left or Right side as you face the stage. See diagram below. B. The seats will be numbered 1-34. (1-17 are on the right, 18-34 are on the left) C. If your seat assignment is Right F 12, you need to find row F on the right side and sit in seat 12. D. No students will sit in seats 17 and 18 (center aisle). Teachers will be sitting in these seats. Be patient. Expect the practice to last all morning. How fast this goes depends upon your cooperation in getting to the right place, following instructions, and being as orderly as possible. You will practice walking across the stage as your name is called. You will have the opportunity to correct any mispronunciation of your name. If your name is mispronounced, please give Ms. Aldrin the correction immediately. If you don't give her a correction, it will be assumed that your name has been pronounced correctly. The ceremony will take place at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, May 31st. You are expected to arrive by 8:30 a.m. to line up. Students who arrive after 9:00 a.m. will be excluded from the ceremony, so please be prompt. If you elect not to participate in commencement exercises, please notify your counselor, IN WRITING with your parent s signature no later than Noon on Wednesday, May 28 th. Do not wait until practice - we need to know for seating assignments.

How to attain your diploma When you walk across the stage you will receive a cover for your diploma. After Graduation you will pick up your diploma at Midland High School June 2 nd June 6 th between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. All dual credit students must send their Midland College Transcript to the college you will attending in the fall.
