Northwest Region of Missouri State Teachers Association For High School Seniors Instructions to Applicants Students must be seeking a degree in Education and must stay in the field of study to receive this scholarship in subsequent years. Students must attend a college or university in the state of Missouri. 1. Students must give full and explicit answers to all questions on application. 2. Students must attach a complete transcript of the first seven semesters of high school with GPA converted to a 4 point scale. 3. Students must secure the data required on the fourth sheet of this application from the high school principal/counselor. 4. Students must submit two typed written letters of recommendation with at least one coming from a non family member educator. 5. Students must submit this application no later than March 14th, 2014.
Northwest Region Association Of the Missouri State Teachers Association Teacher Education Scholarship To: All high school principals and counselors working in districts within the Northwest Region Association of the Missouri State Teachers Association. The Northwest Region Association of the Missouri State Teachers Association, recognizing the need for the recruitment of outstanding people into the teaching profession, has established a scholarship fund to be used to assist a student going into the field of education. This scholarship must be used at a college or university within the state of Missouri. Four hundred dollars ($400) per year will be awarded by the Northwest Region Association to be used in accordance with the plan outlined below: I. Teacher education scholarship of $400 per year (potential of $1600), has been allocated by the Northwest Region ASSOCiation for the purpose of attracting to the profession students of outstanding ability and sincerity of purpose. The scholarship may be renewed three times, provided the recipient maintains a GPA of at least a 3.0 and remains in the education field of study. This makes it possible for the student to receive a scholarship each of the four years at the institution. II. The Scholarship will be based on: A) Character and personality 8) Scholastic record C) Aptitude for teaching D) Sincerity of purpose to the teaching profession E) Financial need III. Stipulations A) The student must take the necessary courses to qualify as a degreed teacher in the public schools of Missouri. Any unforeseen necessity for a lengthy absence, during the required teaching training period, such as illness or accident, must be communicated immediately to Missouri State Teachers Association at 1-800-392-0532 ext. 3001, Mindy Walker. Due consideration will be exercised according to the circumstances stated. 8) At the conclusion of each academic year the student recipient will contact the Northwest Region Association to verify eligibility for the upcoming academic year. The student must provide a current transcript along with a schedule of classes for the upcoming semester. C) The President and Treasurer of the Northwest Region Association shall act as a board of review to pass on the eligibility of each student to continue to receive the scholarship award. This shall be done prior to start of the educational institutions' fall semester.
IV. Selection of recipient A) One high school graduate living in the Northwest Region shall be selected annually to receive the scholarship according to the following criteria: 1: The faculty of each high school may select one candidate and certify this selection to the President of the Association, Amy Kelsey. 2: The regional scholarship committee shall review applicants. 3: The announcement of the recipient and the alternate will be made at the NWR Spring Banquet in April. V. Suggested financial plan of operation: A) The Association is to sponsor one new student per year. B) The remuneration shall be $400 per year (potential of $1600). C) If, before the beginning of the recipient's freshman year, they decide not to attend a Missouri college or university the scholarship will go to the runner up. VI. Application forms-deposition: A) Detailed application forms will be provided to each school. B) Application forms should be returned by March 14 th, 2014.
