WINGS SCHOLARSHIP 2014 Application Information The Parent-Teacher Fellowship has established the Wings Scholarship Endowment Fund to provide college scholarships to graduating seniors of Fort Bend Christian Academy. Each spring, the Wings Scholarship will be awarded to a select number of college bound seniors. The scholarship awarded is based on the applicant s Christian character, school and community service, proven academic performance, and a personal interview with the Scholarship Committee. The number and amount of scholarships awarded will be determined on an annual basis by the Parent-Teacher Fellowship Executive Board. A 10% portion of the proceeds from all PTF fundraisers provide support for the Wings Scholarship Fund. WHEN TO APPLY: Seniors may obtain applications in late February or early March by downloading an application from NetClassroom or the FBCA website. The completed application and related materials must be submitted to the High School Counseling Office no later than March 21, 2014. WHO IS ELIGIBLE: To be eligible for this scholarship, a student must: Have continuously attended FBCA from the beginning of the second semester of their sophomore year. Be eligible to graduate in May of his/her senior year. Have a 3.5 or higher GPA (based on a 5.0 weighted scale). Have a satisfactory conduct standing with no N or U marks in conduct during the previous two semesters (second semester Junior year and first semester Senior year). HOW TO APPLY: Seniors who wish to apply for this scholarship must submit the following: 1. A completed Wings Scholarship Application. 2. Typed essays addressing your choice of two of the four subjects listed below. The essays will assist the selection committee in making a decision. Be thorough but succinct, including as many specific examples as necessary. a. In your opinion, what is the most significant spiritual struggle that young adults face today? How can you achieve victory over this struggle in your own life? b. Does God care who is President of the United States? c. Proverbs 22:6 states Train up a child in the way he should go and when he is old, he will not turn from it. Upon leaving the Christian environment of FBCA and entering the secular world and college environment, what steps will you take to remain grounded in your Christian values and in God s will? d. Pick one of your activities or service commitments and tell us how it has impacted you personally and what you feel you gave back. 3. Copies of the following: a. High school transcript b. SAT or ACT score c. Acceptance letter from college(s) 4. Teacher recommendation form DEADLINE FOR APPLYING: All applications and related materials must be received by March 21, 2014. Interviews will be conducted April 1-4, 2014, and the scholarship recipients will be announced in May at the Senior Awards Program.
