Qualifications Wales Data Project

Introduced by: Tom Anderson Head of Research, Qualifications Wales Tania Deitch Data Project Manager

What is this project about? Ofqual currently collects and publishes GQ and VQ Data for Welsh learners We are now in a position to take that on for Welsh learners and develop the datasets that we in Wales would find most useful

Why are we doing this now? We have now recruited our research team. We are developing our expertise. We need data to support our regulatory activities and conduct research We want to start early this is going to take some time. Now is a good time.

Scoping Responsibilities of the regulator: Regulation and Monitoring Research Needs of other users of Wales data: Learners Competing awarding bodies Employers National agencies Other qualifications regulators

Scoping Responsibilities of the regulator: Regulation and Monitoring Research Needs of other users of Wales data: Learners Competing awarding bodies Employers National agencies Other qualifications regulators coming up with a plan

What have we done so far? Project Team Talking with internal colleagues Talking with Ofqual and FAB Procuring a business and systems expert Preparing to come and talk with you

Performing our statutory functions The qualification system is complicated and interdependent. We know there will be benefits, but there s some work to do before we can realise them, and everyone will be involved differently. It s important to us that this is done as smoothly as possible.

Working together Meaningful engagement as early as possible Clarity of purpose Clarity of communication Respect Minimising impact Opportunity for efficiency Build on QiW Realism Fulfilling our responsibilities as a regulator

Where have we got to so far? Disaggregated data Validation New template format v status quo

What is the plan looking like? Scoping until February / March 2017 Dec 2016

Expect some visitors We need to understand your needs and capabilities and how we might accommodate them We need to understand what we can and need to build, including how information should be governed. Some first responders (GQ and VQ) Later change for others In the meantime, continue to submit to Ofqual
