International Research Network Programmes The CERN Summer Student Programme (CSSP) offers undergraduate students of physics, computing and engineering a unique opportunity to join in the day-today work of research teams participating in experiments at CERN in Geneva, Switzerland. International Research Network Programmes IIASA offers a unique chance for Malaysian young scientists to be part of the 3-month Young Scientists Summer Program (YSSP) that exposes research opportunities to talented young researchers whose interests correspond with IIASA s ongoing research on issues of global environmental, economic and social change. International Research Network Programmes Lindau Nobel Laureate Meeting is an inter-generational dialogue offers an excellent avenue to develop our young scientists by providing them with an opportunity to interact with Nobel Laureates and scientific peers from around the world. Information Held between June to July every year. 25 to 35 Nobel Laureates and around 400-600 Young Scientists at Lindau on Lake Constance, Germany. Physics, Chemistry, Physiology/Medicine on an annual rotation. A tri-disciplinary meeting is held every five years. Who should apply Malaysian citizens. Show a genuine interest in science and research essay and interview Receive strong support of their application by their academic advisor and/or by internationally renowned scientists, through a detailed recommendation letter. Be fluent in English and capable of active participation in discussions. Not be older than 35 years of age. Have not participated in previous Lindau Meetings. Application Opens September - October Application via TRSM mytopscientists.org ASM will conduct national level selection Selection Process Selected candidates will be forwarded to the Lindau Council for final selection Final Results January February Financial support will come from the host institution.

International Research Network Programmes The Academy of Sciences Malaysia as one of the member academies under IAP. IAP Young Physician Leaders Programme gives opportunity to Malaysian young physicians to magnify their leadership skills by participating in this programme. Information Held in October (1-2 weeks) Opening: June annually This programme focuses on three-parts: 1. Leadership development programme for personal leadership improvement & growth 2. Awards & Grants managed by ASM The Ministry of Science Technology & Innovation is the custodian of the Dr Ranjeet Bhagwan Singh (RBS) Medical Research Trust Fund. The Academy is entrusted to implement two programmes under this trust fund namely, 1. RBS Research Grant, and 2. RBS Research Workshop Grant. RBS Research Grant RBS Research Grant is an annual programme under the RBS Medical Research Trust Fund to be awarded to one (1) young Malaysian scientist to undertake a research in medical/biomedical field. RBS Grant for Research Workshop RBS Research Workshop is a biennial programme under the RBS Medical Research Trust Fund. A workshop grant will be awarded to one (1) Malaysian scientist/ institution/ organisation to conduct a research workshop on the latest research techniques and technologies in the field of medical or biomedical. Application : June Aug 2017 Evaluation exercise : Sept Oct 2017 Announcement of results : Oct/Nov 2017 No Programme Budget (RM) Implementation Timeline 1. RBS Research Grant 30,000.00 Grant to be given annually 2. Awards & Grants managed by ASM An annual award given by the National Cancer Council Malaysia (MAKNA) to young researchers with an excellent track record who are seeking to make beneficial contribution to cancer research. Since 2002, the Academy has been entrusted by MAKNA to carry out the vetting and selection exercise for the award. The amount of research grant for each award will be between RM10,000.00 to RM30,000.00 per project. Eligibility Malaysian citizens with a basic degree and aged 40 years and below; Residing in Malaysia; and Students who are pursuing their postgraduate degrees are encouraged to apply. Conditions The research grant cannot be used to purchase equipment and employ salaried personnel; and The project must be carried out in Malaysia and completed within 2 years duration. Closing Date of Submission for 2017: 31 August 2017

The Top Research Scientists Malaysia can be: Role models of excellence Mentors to the next generation Leaders with pioneering mindset that are prime movers of nation s STI agenda Pool of potential research scientists for international recognition Identify a pool of leading Malaysian researchers across all areas e.g. fundamental research, applied research, social science research & industry research experts Through an objective & standardized selection criteria & scoring mechanism based on: i. Knowledge Generation ii. Knowledge Dissemination iii. Impact of Research Outputs 2 nd Phase Disseminate the profile of the Top Research Scientists through the TRSM database 1) Serve as a centralized point of reference for stakeholders to identify: National R&D priority areas Human capital that can lead the priority areas 2) Serve as a resource for the international scientific community, academia & industries (Facilitate search of top notch STI expertise in Malaysia for knowledge exchange, networking, linkages & research collaboration)

Eligibility Malaysian citizenship research scientists working in Malaysia whose outstanding achievements in STI have nationally & internationally recognized: From the Institutions of Higher Learning (Public & Private), Research Institutes or STI based Industry From all research areas e.g. fundamental research, applied research, social science research & industry research Actively involved in research in the last 5 years with at least 10 years cumulative contributions towards the progress of STI Beginning 2015, ASM Fellows are not eligible to apply for the Top Research Scientists Malaysia

Application Mechanism Each organization (IPTA/ IPTS/ RI/ NGO/ Industry/ STE Professional Body) shall nominate candidate(s) based on the eligibility criteria stated. There is no limit to the number of nominations from each organization Eligible candidates can also apply individually Nomination is limited to individuals only On-line application open throughout the year at www.mytopscientists.org.

Selection Criteria a. Criteria for selection of Member include all of the following: i. A PhD or an equivalent degree in natural and physical sciences or equivalent research experience of at least five years; ii. iii. iv. Scientific excellence, ascertained by proven track record; Envisage to make a difference in society; Age 40 and below at the time of application. b. Members of the YSN-ASM will be selected for one term of three years with possibility of reappointment subject to other criteria. c. Selection priority will be given to individuals who have participated in at least one ASM programme d. Vetting and selection of YSN-ASM Member will be carried out by the YSN-ASM Executive Committee and recommendation for appointment will be made to the ASM Council. e. Final approval and appointment of YSN-ASM Member will be by the ASM Council.
