Funding SART Listserv October 2007 Background: We recently found out that we are not going to receive a continuation grant through the Department of Justice Office on Violence against Women to fund our program. We are in the process of searching for other ways to fund our program which is relatively new on campus. Do any of you have ideas or advice for seeking out other funding opportunities and grants? RESOURCES GRANTS AND GRANTMAKERS ACF Compassion Capital Fund The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Administration for Children and Families site that provides information and resources on grant solicitations and existing grantees. There is also a link to subscribe to their funding e-newsletter. The Brookdale Foundation The Brookdale Foundation Group seeks to enhance the quality of life for America's senior citizens and to further the fields of gerontology and geriatrics. Federal Register The Federal Register is the official daily publication for rules, proposed rules, and notices of Federal agencies and organizations. Federal and State Funding Matrix The Federal Funding Matrix is a compilation of federal grant opportunities currently available from the federal government that may be of interest to domestic violence/social change organizations. (click on funding ) Finding and Utilizing Grant Makers Online This article proposes eight steps for securing grants using available online funding research tools. The Ford Family Foundation There are three broad grant area programs: Asset Building and Community Development; Peace and Social Justice; and Knowledge, Creativity and Freedom. Gannett Foundation The Gannett Foundation gives grants to organizations in the communities in which Gannett owns a daily newspaper or television station. Government Information Locator Service Database containing public information and funding resources. Grantmakers Concerned with Immigrants and Refugees Directory of Funders supporting immigrant and refugee issues Grants.gov Grants.gov provides information on over 900 grant programs offered by the 26 federal grant-making agencies. GrantsNet The site provides information on Health and Human Services and other federal grant programs. GrantSmart.org GrantSmart is an informational and interactive resource center for and about the nonprofit community. The site includes data on private foundation activities. Institute for Nonprofit Organization Management The site provides funding resources and links to other related sites. Internet Prospector Private Foundations The site provides a list of U.S. grantmakers provided by Internet prospector. Internet Prospector -- State Charities Databases on the Web A listing of U.S. charities by state. Ms. Foundation for Women The Ms. Foundation for Women funds in the areas of economic security; health and safety; and girls, young women and leadership. We also support organizing and public policy advocacy work that cuts across these issue areas. National Criminal Justice Reference Service Grants and Funding The site provides information on funding opportunities and the Federal Government funding process. National Institute of Justice Grant opportunities from the National Institute of Justice. OJP Financial Guide 2

The OJP Financial Guide serves as a primary reference manual to assist award recipients in fulfilling their fiduciary responsibility to safeguard grant funds and ensure funds are used for the purposes for which they were awarded. Office of Community Oriented Policing Services Current funding opportunities related to community policing. Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention Current funding opportunities pertaining to juvenile justice. Office for Victims of Crime Current funding opportunities pertaining to crime victims. Philanthropy News Digest The RFP (Request for Proposals) Bulletin is published every Friday afternoon. Each RFP listing provides a brief overview of a current funding opportunity offered by a foundation or other grant-making organization. Progressive Foundations & Philanthropic Resources The site provides a listing of Foundations specializing in specific populations. Robert Wood Johnson Foundation The Robert Wood Johnson Foundation awards most of its grants through calls for proposals. Program areas that may be of interest to SARTs include public health and vulnerable populations. Rural Health Services Funding: A Resource Guide The site provides information on governmental funding streams, private information sources, electronic funding resources, and a funding glossary. Sexual Assault Response Team (SART) Toolkit Cooperative Agreement FY 2004 Discretionary Grant Application Kit A description of SART-related government grant and application guidelines. U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development Faith-Based and Community Initiatives The central mission of the Center is to empower faith-based and other community organizations to apply for HUD grants. U.S. Department of Justice -- Office of Community Oriented Policing Services Current funding opportunities related to community policing. U.S. Department of Justice Office of Justice The site includes information on funding opportunities and program information. White House Office of Faith-Based and Community Initiatives 3

The White House Office has put together a list of more than 100 Federal programs, which provide funding. In addition to specific funding opportunities this web site also contains information on the federal grant system, technical assistance opportunities, the seven collaborating federal agencies, conferences, legislation and the Compassion Capital Fund. W. K. Kellogg Foundation The Foundation focuses on building the capacity of individuals, communities, and institutions to solve their own problems. A grant purpose area for health may be of interest to SARTs. RESOURCES FUNDING State Legislative Approaches To Funding For Victims Services, U.S. Department of Justice Office of Justice Programs Office for Victims of Crime The document includes information on offender-based funding; including surcharges for specific crimes, restitution, funding through fees, and state facilitated funding. Tips for Getting Technology Funding The article discusses six ways to improve the prospect of getting technology funding. Basic Tips for Fund-raising for Small NGOs in Developing Countries The document includes information on fund raising steps, credibility-building, soliciting donations, finding donors and tips on writing funding proposals. Funding for Victim Services, National Victim Assistance Academy Textbook The information includes major sources of federal funding for victim service programs, fundamental concepts and challenges to fund-raising, basic information on grant writing, grant seeking on the Internet, an overview of cause-related marketing, developing fundraising skills, identifying funding sources, and promising practices in fund-raising for victim services. GovBenefits.gov GovBenefits.gov is the official benefits website of the U.S. government, with information on over 1,000 benefit and assistance programs. Grants.Gov The site provides a link to receive email updates on federal grants. It Happened To Alexa Foundation It Happened to Alexa Foundation was created to assists rape victims families with travel expenses during the criminal justice process and is the only organization of its kind in the United States. 4

Making the Most of Outcome Data: Finding Funding for Nonprofits The paper includes questions and answers about funder s priority concerns, using outcome data to demonstrate efficiency, and fundraising ideas for nonprofits. National Association of County and City Health Officials -- Foundation Funding Guide: Public Health and Mental Health Funding The site provides links to state specific funding as well as a document on national foundations. National Resource Center The National Resource Center publishes a free, twice-a-month e-newsletter for faith- and community-based social service initiatives. The newsletter includes highlights of Federally supported faith-based initiatives, listings of upcoming events and trainings, timely funding opportunities, tools and tips, feature articles, book reviews and more. National Sexual Assault Coalition Resource Sharing Project Fiscal Sustainability A list of resources on fundraising and grants. Network for Good Information about online fundraising and other support for nonprofits. 5
