I. What is Interfraternity Council? The Interfraternity Council (IFC) is the programming and governing body of the 8 fraternities at Chapman University. The council is composed of an executive board consisting of 6 Greek community members, a graduate advisor, and a delegate from each chapter.
II. Greek Glossary Potential New Member - a person who is interested in joining a Greek organization and will participate in rush Fraternity - a group of people brought together because of mutual interests Bid - an invitation to join a fraternity Chapter - a branch of a national fraternity, established at a campus Dry Rush - the expectation that, during the recruitment period, no fraternities will use alcohol as a recruiting tool Dirty Rushing - when one organization will attempt to influence a PNM through gifts, threats, badmouthing other organizations, etc. Legacy - the son, daughter, brother or sister of an initiated or alumn member Alumni - members of a fraternity who have graduated
III. Rush Structure Fall 2017 BY SEPTEMBER 13TH September 9th 11:30-3pm Rush Registration (Required for bid eligibility) IFC Kick-Off/Info. IV. IFC Rush Kick-Off Following the semi-formal recruitment structure, IFC hosts at least one rush event throughout the rush period. Every semester, recruitment begins with an IFC-hosted event on Memorial Lawn. The lawn event takes place directly after an informational presentation and eight rotations of fraternity presentations. The kick-off event gives potential new members the opportunity to meet all chapters in one place. Fall 2017 Rush Kick-Off September 9th BK 404 & Memorial Lawn 11:30-3pm
V. Bid Night Bid Night takes place on the second Friday of the rush period. Chapters send out bid invitations that morning from 11am-1pm. Invitations can be in the form of a text message, e-mail, or phone call. Potential New Members have until 5pm that day to accept or reject a bid invitation. Fall 2017 Bid Night September 28th
VI. New Member Ed Program A New Member Educational program is hosted by the Chapman Greek Life office. It normally takes place in either one or two sessions during the week that follows IFC rush. New Members will be notified in advance that the attendance of this program is mandatory. If a new member misses the program, he will be required to attend a make-up session hosted later in the semester. Fall 2017 New Member Ed Program October 2nd & 3rd AF 209 7-9pm

VIII. Rush Registration/FERPA Registration Registering for rush is necessary in order to be eligible to receive a bid. The registration fee for each recruitment period is $15 and can be paid through an online portal found on Chapman's Greek Life web page. FERPA The Family Education Rights and Privacy Act of 1974 is a United States federal law that governs access of educational information and records. Each member of a greek organization is asked to complete a FERPA form upon receiving his bid in order to release his grades to the chapter.
IX. Rush Violation Report Potential New Members, chapter delegates, chapter presidents, recruitment chairs, advisors, and faculty have the ability to submit a Rush Violation Report Form to the Interfraternity Council at anytime throughout the rush period if they witness/experience any evidence of rush violations, dirty rushing, and/or foul play. The form can be acquired by contacting the IFC President, Rush Chairman, or any IFC delegate.
