Traffic Fatalities In 2015, 35,092 people died in motor vehicle traffic crashes in the United States, ending a 5-decade trend in declining fatalities with a 7.2 percent increase in deaths in 2014 (32,744). Of the 35,092: 48 % were unbuckled 57 % of the nighttime fatalities were unbuckled Alcohol- impaired accounted for 29 % of overall fatalities
