Monday Afternoon Coffee Time Mondays, 2:00 pm - 4:00 pm Drop in for coffee and conversation! 161 st Battalion Commemoration 2016 marks the 100 th Anniversary of the deployment of the 161 st Battalion of Huron to serve in the First World War. As part of a series of events marking this important anniversary, 550 ceramic poppies will be installed in front of the cenotaph in Goderich. The project is based on the 2014 art installation Blood Swept Lands and Seas of Red by artists Paul Cummins and Tom Piper at the Tower of London. Each of the 550 ceramic poppies, made by community volunteers, represents a life lost from Huron County in the First World War. The poppies will be in place from September 22 until November 2, after which they will be divided among the different cenotaphs across Huron County.
