Eligibility and Admission Procedure Eligibility Foreign applicants whose parents are both citizens of countries other than Republic of Korea and who meet the following requirements: Overseas Chinese applicants with one parent of Chinese or Taiwanese nationality are eligible to apply. Academic Requirements: Applicants must be high school graduates or be expected to graduate high school before the end of February 2017. Graduates (or graduates to be) of vocational high schools in Korea or in foreign countries are not eligible to apply. Language Proficiency Requirements: One (1) of the following requirements must be met for application: 4

1) TOPIK Level 2 or above An admitted students without TOPIK score or even with TOPIK Level 2 or lower must complete a Korean Language course of 250 hours offered by Yeungnam University in the 1 st academic year. If an admitted student with TOPIK Level 2 achieves Level 3 before the 2 nd semester in the first academic year, 120-class hours of a Korean Language course will be deemed to have been achieved out of 250 hours of required Korean Language course. The 250 hours of required Korean Language course include class hours of International Basic Curriculum in the School of International Studies. 2) Certificate of IC TOPIK - 1st IC TOPIK: 17:30 ~ 20:00 October 21, 2016. (Fri.) (Application Period: October 6 (Thu.) ~ October 18 (Tue.), 2016) - 2nd IC TOPIK: 17:30 ~ 20:00 December 7, 2016 (Wed.) (Application Period: November 21 (Mon.) ~ December 2 (Fri.), 2016) IC TOPIK is Intercollege TOPIK which is designed by Yeungnam University. 3) Completion of a level 4 or higher Korean Language Course at an educational institution within a Korean university 4) English Proficiency: TOEFL (PBT 530, CBT 197, ibt 71), IELTS 5.5, TEPS 600 or above 5) Other language skills considered are equivalent to the above. For overseas Chinese applicants (holding Chinese or Taiwanese nationality) who have graduated from elementary school, middle school and high school in Korea, the Korean Language Proficiency requirements shall be waived. Graduate Requirement: Admitted applicants who have not achieved a TOPIK level 4 at the time of admission must submit a certificate of TOPIK Level 4 to graduate from the university. Students majoring in Art, Music & Physical Education, Chemistry & Biochemistry, Civil Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Fiber System Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Electronic Engineering, Computer Engineering, Information & Communication Engineering, Architecture, Forest Resources & Landscape Architecture, Biotechnology & Food & Nutrition must achieve a TOPIK Level 3 or higher before graduation. 5

If an applicant acquires admission through copied documents, he/she must submit the originals to Yeungnam University by the end of the final registration period. 2) If original documents are in foreign languages besides English, applicants should submit the documents with their notarized translation in Korean (or in English). (E.g. High School Graduation Certificate (or expected graduation certificate), transcript, family registration, finance verification (certificate of employment or certificate of income) 3) If documents are translated in Korean (or in English) by an organization other than the document issuing authority or a translation agency, a certificate of translation should be submitted. (Refer to Form 4 from Korean Immigration Office.) 4) For Chinese applicants: The full marks of subjects and the field (Liberal Arts or Natural Sciences) should be stated in high school transcript. 7

5) The admission committee may request additional documents for admission review. 6) All submitted documents should be officially issued within 6 months of the date of application. 7) If the admission is based on a falsification of the application or a false or forged documents (including their translation), admission shall be revoked. 8) Submitted documents will not be returned to the applicant. 7. Selection Criteria 1) Admission will be made through a screening process of the application documents. If deemed necessary during the document screening process, individual interview or performance test may be conducted. 2) If there are issues with document authenticity, eligibility, exam cheating, etc., admission will be revoked. 8. Tuition and Fees The following fees are based on the Fall semester of 2016. They may be subject to change in 2017. Post Enrollment : The scholarship criteria for enrolled students may be subject to change. Important Notes for Applicants 1) Application Fee Refund: - The applicant may choose either one of the following methods to obtain a refund: a) Refund to the applicant s bank account, as provided on the application form b) Visit Yeungnam University in person - If the applicants choose the first refund option, Yeungnam University will transfer the application fee less any charges incurred from using the bank system. If the bank system charges are more than the application fee, there will be no refund. 2) Other Important Notes: - All documents are required to be written and submitted in Korean or English. Applicants should submit documents in languages other than Korean or English with their notarized translations into Korean or English. - If any required documents are found to be falsified or counterfeited, the admission will be revoked. - If the applicant s name differs on any of the submitted documents, a proof of identity issued by an applicant s native-country legislative agency must be submitted. - Applicants must inform the International Student Services Office if their contact information changes during the admission process. 3) Any missing documents must be submitted no later than the application deadline. If applicants fail to submit the required documents within the designated period, their admission will be revoked.. 4) Once final registration at the university has been completed, admitted students cannot apply for other departments or other universities. 5) Other matters which are not expressly started under the admission guidelines are to be settled by the Admission Committee of the International Students at Yeungnam University. 11. Notification of Admission Result 1) Admission results will be posted on http://is.yu.ac.kr. 2) Admitted students must print out the tuition fees invoice located on the website (http://is.yu.ac.kr) and pay the tuition. * Applicants staying in Korea - Bank transfer, Daegu Bank 9100011273020 (Remittee: President of Yeungnam University) * Applicants staying overseas - Foreign exchange remittance, Daegu Bank 9100019983684 (Remittee: President of Yeungnam University) 9

If he or she fails to graduate high school or to submit the certificate, admission shall be revoked. 12. On campus Housing 1) All international students must live in on-campus housing for one (1) year for the first academic year. 2) On-campus Housing Fees The following fees are based on Fall semester of 2016. They may be subject to change in 2017. * Gyeongbuk Global Exchange Center (For 6 Months) Type of Room Boarding Fee Deposit Meal Plan(optional) Double KR \1,140,000 KR \100,000 KR \ 674,000 (4 months) * Yeungnam University Dormitory (For 4 Months) Type of Room Boarding Fee Members Fee(optional) Meal Plan(optional) Double KR \563,000 KR \10,000 KR \ 674,000 For Yeungnam University Dormitory residences, additional payment will be required for those who wish to stay during summer or winter vacation period. 3) Inquiry about housing should be directed towards: - Gyeongbuk Global Exchange Center (http://ggec.happydorm.or.kr) - Yeungnam University Dormitory (http://dormi.yu.ac.kr) 4) Dormitory cancellation penalties may apply in case of cancelling a dormitory application due to personal matters. 5) Meal plan: 3 meals a day including weekends (offered during the semester) - Students staying during summer or winter vacations who wish to have a meal plan must pay additional costs. 13. 1 st Year Basic Curriculum for the International Students (Required) 10

- International students admitted as freshmen must complete the 1 st Year Basic Curriculum for International Students. - Curriculum information: Korean language courses, Korean culture and society related courses and other common required general education courses (39 credits in total) Students who completed a 12-year education (from elementary to high school) in Korea will be exempted from the 1 st Year Basic Curriculum for International Students 14. International Students Insurance (Required) - International students of Yeungnam University must sign up for insurance. - Insurance information is scheduled to be shared during the orientation after enrollment. - Members of National Health Insurance and other insurances must submit the proof of the insurance to International Student Services Office during orientation. - Insurance Cost: approximately KRW 150,000 KRW per year - Students without insurance will have disadvantages during course registration. - Detailed information will be provided during the orientation. 15. Certification of Admission and VISA Certification of Admission will be issued after the tuition payment has been confirmed. VISA Issuance for Students Overseas - The following documents will be sent to the admitted students: Certificate of admission, university registration certificate, certificate of tuition payment, etc. - VISA: Students must apply for a visa by submitting documents from Yeungnam University as well as others requested by the Korean Embassy. - Each Korean Embassy may request different documents for issuing a VISA. Contact your local Korean Embassy or consulate before applying for a VISA. 11

Note for Apostille Apostille Convention 1) The Hague Convention Abolishing the Requirement of Legalization for Foreign Public Documents is an international treaty drafted by the Hague Conference on Private International Law and has been effective in Korea since July 7, 2014.. 2) It specifies the modalities through which a document issued in one of the signatory countries can be certified for legal purposes in all the other signatory states. 3) Such a certification that is called an apostille is an international certification comparable to a notarization in domestic law, and normally supplements a local notarization of the document.
