Diocese of Trenton Catholic Committees on Scouting 2004 Retreat Meals Keep your meals simple, as it is a busy weekend for all. Dress Uniform for most of the weekend is up to you. Campers usually bring clean clothes for Club WOW. Class A Uniforms are appropriate for Mass on Sundays. SUNGLASSES are important at Mass. You will be looking into the sun. Trading Post Soda, snacks, as well as souvenir shirts and patches will be available most of the weekend. Retreat Mugs Mugs will be provided this year for all registered campers. Camp Sites We expect a full camp. You WILL share the campsite with another troop(s). A scout is courteous, and a scout leaves a place cleaner than they found it. Arrival and Check-In We suggest that you try to arrive before dark, especially if you are not familiar with the camp. Our check-in times are 6 to 9 PM. No troop may set up equipment or tents before signing in at the registration table. Flags - Troop and American Flags are encouraged. Please bring to the Opening Ceremony. Mass Parents are welcome to celebrate Sunday Mass with us. We face the rising sun during Mass, so SUNGLASSES may be helpful. Camp Emergency Phone Number 609-698-2855 Check Out Procedures AFTER SUNDAY MASS, when your unit is ready to depart, take all of your gear to the parking lot. Send the SPL or GS Patrol Leader to registration. A staff member will accompany you to your site for inspection. Remember, the sites are shared, so everyone is responsible for common use areas. When the site clears inspection, you may pick up your patches at registration.
Jersey Shore Council, BSA Joseph A. Citta Scout Reservation Instructions for Adult Leaders Parking All vehicles must be parked in the parking lot. NO VEHICLES IN CAMP. All gear must be carried to the campsite. If you have unit gear you cannot carry, please check with registration. Please be courteous and park close to other cars in the lot. Care and Use of Facilities 1. Under no circumstances may any building be entered other than those listed in the activities. Unused buildings are usually locked, but the absence of a lock does not grant permission to enter. Please report any damage of camp property to Logistics, located in Dining hall. 2. Conservation No living trees or shrubs are to be cut or damaged. All damaged trees will be charged at the camp rate. 3. Grounds Units will leave the camp in better condition than they found it. Staff will inspect the campsites prior to a unit departing. When the campsite is satisfactory, patches will be provided. 4. Trash All garbage is to be taken with you when you leave. The camp does not have garbage service. 5. Site usage As there will be multiple groups assigned to each site, the resources i.e. tables, campfire ring, and latrines are shared. Consider the scouting principles. Health and Safety 1. Fires These may only be built in the existing fire ring in each campsite. Please DO NOT construct other fire rings. No flames in tents. This includes candles, cigarette lighters, cigarettes, etc. FIRE RESTRICTIONS MAY BE IN EFFECT DUE TO DRY WEATHER. 2. Cooking You may use liquid fuel, propane, charcoal, or open fire (in established fire ring.) Remember, gas stoves may only be lit by Adults in a Scout camp. 3. Accidents Please report all accidents and illness to the First Aid Station. 4. Use of Lake There will be no swimming activities during the retreat. 5. Smoking BSA and GSA policies prohibit smoking in camp. Prohibited Items Firearms, firecrackers, alcoholic beverages, chain saws

St. Tarcisius Award Campout Come and join us in exploring our Catholic Faith Quail Hill Scout Reservation October 8-10, 2004 Inspired by the International Eucharistic Congress held in Philadelphia in 1976, and its theme Hungers of Mankind, the St. Tarcisius Award was developed to make Church more important in your life. It increases your awareness of God s presence in your life and especially in the Holy Eucharist. The program is open to any registered male or female Catholic Scout, age 11-18, plus adult Scouters. Adult Scouters are encouraged to attend. The program begins with registration at 6 PM Friday and an evening session that includes a candle-light outdoor Stations of the Cross. The fun-filled weekend concludes with a celebration of Mass on Sunday morning. Cost: $33.00 per person, which includes all program materials, the Award medal, a commemorative patch, an evening cracker barrel and refreshments. Make checks payable to Monmouth Council Catholic Committee on Scouting. Bring: A Bible, Class A Scout Uniform, appropriate camping clothes for the weekend, including rain gear and a can of food. Campsites will be assigned. Troops will camp as units at Quail Hill and be responsible for cooking their own meals. Individual Scouts that wish to participate will be formed into a provisional troop. Be A Clown A Christian Clown Ministry Workshop What: Learn to be a clown and teach others through Christian Clown ministry. We will learn clown movement, skits, mime and juggling. Individual Awards Available: Eagle Scout or Gold Award: Certificate, signed by Bishop Smith, for presentation to Eagle Scouts or Gold Award recipients at their Court of Honor. Troop Leader should complete and submit the application for this certificate at least one month before the presentation date. Helping Hands Patch: Presented to youth and adult BSA or GSUSA members who have completed a service project for their church or church organization. Year Rockers are available for continuing/additional service. Available @ $2/Patch; $1/Rocker. The Rosary Patch series: The Rosary Patch Series will focus each of the next four years on a different set of Mysteries of the Holy Rosary. This is an opportunity for youth and adults alike to learn more about their faith. All Scouts, Girl Scouts and Camp Fire Boys and Girls are eligible to earn the patch. It is not necessary to send the completed form. Scout and Camp Fire Leaders as well as parents can verify the correct answers. Each patch will cost $3.50 in the current fiscal year (July 1 to June 30). Adult Award Applications: Awards are presented at an annual Court of Honor to Adult Boy Scout or Girl Scout volunteers for service given to DOT-CCS. Annual submission Deadline: February 1 Troop Awards Available: Forms for each award must be completed and submitted annually before the February 1 Deadline. Golden Bow Certificate: Presented to adult Boy Scout leaders who have made a commitment to membership initiative. Golden Bow Achievement Patch: Presented to Boy Scouts or Girl Scouts who have recruited a new member to their unit since October of this scout year. Membership Initiative Streamer: Presented to Boy Scout units increasing their membership by more than 10%, or a minimum of three members. Pope Paul VI National Unit Recognition: Presented to Boy Scout troops for completion of training, leadership, service, and spiritual growth activities. National Gold Medallion Award: The Gold Medallion Award Program is established to identify and recognize the outstanding Catholic Cub Scout Pack, Boy Scout Troop, Venture Crew in each of the fourteen Episcopal Regions of the United States. Troops must complete an application that explains in detail why your unit should receive this award. The information should include unit activities during the calendar year from January 1 through December 31. The completed application must be received by the Diocesan Committee by December 1 to be considered at the December committee meeting. The committee will select one nominee for each level and forward these nominations to the NCCS Regional Chairman before December 15. Regional Chairmen and Chaplains will select the outstanding units in their Region. Units selected will receive the National Winners recognition Flag and Certificate. Diocese of Trenton Catholic Committees on Scouting Adult Scouting Religious Recognitions Requirements The success of the programs of the Trenton Diocesan Catholic Committees on Scouting depends on the efforts of many supportive volunteers. Recognizing the importance of their contributions, the National and Diocesan Catholic Committees on Scouting have established emblems to recognize those men and women volunteers who provide outstanding service to the Church and Catholic youth in and through the programs of Boy Scouts of America and/or Girl Scouts of the USA. The extent of service required for each emblem is specified below. Nomination for the following emblems may be made by anyone other than the proposed recipient to the Diocesan Catholic Committees at the address below. Use the appropriate form on the reverse and supply the required supporting documentation listed there for each emblem. Nominations must be screened and approved for presentation by the committee. The processing fee for each application is one dollar ($1.00), payable to DOT-CCS. Each of the following emblems is presented at a Diocesan Court of Honor or similar function and the recipient must be present to receive the award. THE CHRIST THE KING AWARD: A Council-level recognition, presented by the Diocesan Bishop, recognizing a person s outstanding contribution to the spiritual development of Catholic youth who are involved in programs of the Boy Scouts of America. THE FLEUR DE LIS EMBLEM: A Diocesan-level recognition presented to women, registered in the Cub Scout program, who have given outstanding service to the spiritual development of Catholic Cub Scouts over a two-year period. THE BRONZE PELICAN EMBLEM: A Diocesan-level recognition presented to an adult who has given five years or more of outstanding service in the spiritual development of Catholic youth in Scouting, and who has received the Christ the King or Fleur de Lis emblem. The recipient must be a registered adult member of the Boy Scouts of America. THE SAINT GEORGE EMBLEM: A National-level recognition, presented to a registered Scouter who has given five years or more of outstanding service in spiritual development of Catholic youth in Scouting, received the Bronze Pelican emblem, and has served actively in Church and community. The recipient must be Catholic and registered in Girl Scouts of USA. THE SAINT ANNE AWARD: This recognition may be presented to a practicing Catholic adult active in a Girl Scout Council in the Diocese of Trenton, who has served parish and/or community as a Girl Scout adult for at least ten years, and who has contributed significantly to the development of Diocesan Religious Emblems Programs for youth for at least five years. Annual Court of Awards: March 5, 2005 Scouts may work on Emblems and Awards throughout the year, but the presentations at the Cathedral are held annually in late February or early March. It is important that adult advisors help their Scouts complete the requirements in a timely manner and submit the required forms by the Feb 1 st deadline. The Monmouth Council Catholic Board of Review for Ad Altare Dei and Pope Pius Awards will be January 15, 2005. Junior Girl Scouts or Webelos Scouts 4 hours Help at a soup kitchen, church play, Clean-up, entertain at nursing home. Cost: Patch: $2.00, Year bars: $1.00 The Catholic Committees on Scouting in the Diocese of Trenton have developed a Service Project Patch Award to be earned by youth and adults in any of the programs of Boy Scouts of America or the Girl Scouts U.S.A. in councils serving Ocean, Burlington, Mercer and Monmouth counties. The award is given in recognition of a completed service project for a church or church organization. The project for which this recognition is requested may be part of an ongoing church program, but should not be a project used to fulfill a requirement for a religious emblem or any other recognition in Scouting.
