A Guide to Postgraduate Scholarships at the GSA The Glasgow School of Art has a number of scholarships available to new postgraduate students. Each scholarship has its own application criteria, however all scholarship applicants must have met the academic entry requirements for study at the Glasgow School of Art and hold either an Unconditional or Conditional offer letter or e-mail, which must accompany their scholarship application. When applying for a GSA scholarship you should note that some of the scholarships offer a contribution towards tuition fees to assist you during your study at the GSA, whilst others provide a maintenance grant. The value of the scholarship does not reflect the full cost of undertaking full-time study, and unless otherwise stated, the scholarships are for one session only, so you should ensure that you have sufficient funds to complete your course once the scholarship has ended. For information on the other funds available to help you whilst you are studying at the GSA, please contact the Student Welfare Adviser. You should check the GSA website at http://www.gsa.ac.uk/life/fees,-fundingfinance/scholarships/ on a regular basis prior to the deadline date/submitting your application or for newly available scholarships. You may also find the Frequently Asked Questions section helpful http://www.gsa.ac.uk/life/fees,-funding-finance/scholarships/ Please note the GSA reserves the right to make variations to the scholarships available and to not award in any year. About Your Scholarship Application You should check your eligibility against the scholarship criteria. If you are eligible you can apply for a maximum of two scholarships. You only need to submit one application form, stating your first and second choice. You should send your application form, together with any additional information that has been specified by the deadline date. Please do not send information that has not been specifically requested in the criteria, for example a CV, slides, catalogues. We can only consider your application on the basis of the information provided on the scholarship form so it is important that you are as clear as possible as to your eligibility and the reasons why you should be considered for the scholarship. Think carefully and make sure you present to us a clear picture of how you would use the funding and why you consider yourself to be the most suitable candidate for the scholarship; explain your financial need and details of how you intend to fund yourself during your studies. The deadline for Postgraduate Scholarship applications is Friday, 13th June 2014 BY 4PM GMT. Please note that the Leverhulme and Hope Scott Scholarships have an earlier application deadline of 30 th May 2014. Version March 2014 Scholarship Administration 2

Submitting Your Application and Outcomes The Scholarship application form can be downloaded from the GSA website: http://www.gsa.ac.uk/life/fees,-funding-finance/scholarships/ Your application responses MUST be typed. We prefer to receive applications by email: scholarships@gsa.ac.uk You will receive an email notification by return acknowledging receipt of your email and advising that we will contact you if we have any questions relating to your application. If you are unable to email your scholarship application, please mail to: The Secretary to the Scholarships Committee Glasgow School of Art 167 Renfrew Street Glasgow G3 6RQ UK All eligible applications are considered, and recipients selected by the Scholarship Committee which comprises representatives from across the School. The awarding decision of the Scholarship Committee is final. You will be advised of the outcome of your application by email at by mid July 2014. Scholarship awards are disbursed in three instalments over the period of the academic year. Head of Department or Head of Programme is required to complete a Progress Review Form (PRF) for terms 2 and 3 confirming that you have made satisfactory progress, prior to the funds being made available. Scholarships cannot be paid to students who have outstanding debts to the School. If you are awarded a tuition fees only scholarship, the awarded amount will be deducted from your total annual tuition fees, and a receipt issued. You will be responsible for payment of the balance of the tuition fees. Please note the GSA Postgraduate Scholarship Programme currently has no available scholarships that cover the full cost of international tuition fees. At the end of term 2, all scholarship recipients, whether they have received tuition fees only or maintenance awards, must submit a student report based on their year as a scholarship recipient, and the impact it has made, to the Secretary to the Scholarships Committee. The final disbursement of the scholarship will not be released until this report is submitted. Enquiries If you have any questions about the application process, or your eligibility to apply for a particular scholarship, you may find the Frequently Asked Questions section of our website helpful. http://www.gsa.ac.uk/life/fees,-funding-finance/scholarships/ Version March 2014 Scholarship Administration 3
