We spread love to those who are special in our lives. We focus on healthy living to keep our hearts strong. We also show pride as we pay tribute to African Americans who have played a significant role in our American History. I hope you enjoy Valentine s Day! I hope you focus on health eating, fitness, and a healthy lifestyle to prevent heart disease. I also hope that you will wear red to chapter meeting in honor of Heart Month. I also hope you take a moment to pay tribute to those who have achieved greatness in our history during Black History Month. During the Metro Atlanta Founders Day (MAFD) celebration, Kappa Omega won the Attendance Award for purchasing the most tickets for a large chapter. Soror LeKeisha D. Jackson won the Service to All Mankind Award for her community service. Our graduate advisor, Soror Richardean Few, was also recognized because Alpha Pi was the only undergraduate chapter in which every member purchased a ticket (all 22 members). AKAlades are extended to Sorors Kecia Bonds and Charlotte Atkins for their hard work in serving as our MAFD Representatives. This Sunday, March 17, we will recognize one of our own, Soror Marjorie H. Young, during a reception in her honor. Soror Young was the Architect who created the platform for public policy known as AKA Day at the Capitol. This has also become one of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. s public policy initiatives. We look forward to seeing many of you on Monday, March 18, at AKA Day at the Capitol in Georgia as we celebrate its 20th year. On March 1st, we will achieve a milestone as Kappa Omega celebrates 90 years. We have many activities planned and hope that each of you will purchase a ticket for our anniversary luncheon on Saturday, March 16. Additional information is provided later in this newsletter. We will also take a chapter photo on the day of the event. Sorors, we hope you will join us for this memorable occasion. Don t forget the early bird registration for the 60 th South Atlantic Regional Conference ends February 28 and late registration ends March 15. Don t forget to visit the South Atlantic Region s website at www.akasouthatlanticregion.org for more details and to register. With Sisterly Love, Soror Franka H. Young, Basileus

Thursday, February 28, 2013 Zumba: Kickboxing Respectfully submitted, Soror Richardean S. Few Graduate Advisor, Alpha Pi-CAU Hello Sorors, It is our goal to continue to put Kappa Omega in the spotlight. as well as apply for the Alpha Kappa Alpha Communications Award at SARC 2014. This will require us to work diligently to spread the word of our many events to local media, radio, email, social networks and beyond for 2013. It is also my goal to utilize an online medium (such as skydrive) to store all pictures from committee events that will give everyone access to these pictures to utilize for the chapter. I am also working on a media release form you would need your committee and or participants to complete, indicating that their pictures can be utilized for Alpha Kappa Alpha programming and historical documentation (KO archives). The main purpose of the public relations committee is to increase publicity of all activities and events held by your committee, initiative and the chapter. Thank you to those sorors who have responded to the call. All others please send me the name of the Soror who will represent your initiative and or committee on the public relations committee. Not much will be required of those individuals, I just need someone to be the point of contact to get pictures from if I cannot make the event, as well as an event/activity description. The Sisterhood Connection Creating Global Opportunities for Success Alpha Kappa Alpha Educational Advancement Foundation, Inc. Chapter Scholarship Endowment As we commemorate Kappa Omega Chapter's 90th Anniversary, the Basilei Council has elected to honor this occasion by enhancing our legacy with the establishment of an Endowment Fund, through the Alpha Kappa Alpha Educational Advancement Foundation, Inc. (EAF). Kappa Omega Chapter Sorors are asked to contribute $25.00 towards the $5,000 required to create a permanently restricted fund that will draw interest to the principal. This interest will facilitate growth and eventually capitalize at $20,000. Two monthly payments of $12.50 or a full payment of $25.00 will be collected at our February 2013 and March 2013 meetings. Please make your checks payable to: Kappa Omega. How the Endowment works: Chapters raise money for scholarships and forward the funds to EAF for their chapter scholarship endowment. Donations may also be sent directly to the Foundation, designating the contribution in the chapter s name. When a chapter scholarship endowment reaches $20,000, it is capitalized, and the chapter can award scholarships from interest and dividends accrued net the investment administrative fee. The chapter sets the eligibility criteria, determines the selection process and committee, and selects the recipient(s) of its scholarship. The Chapter will request checks by submitting the selected recipients to EAF by the established deadline. Eligibility: Chapter Scholarship Endowments are only available to those chapters that have attained Silver level status or higher. [Requirement: ALL chapter members must be EAF members and the chapter must have contributed at least $100-$500 (based on chapter size) in addition to EAF membership dues]. As contributors to the EAF Endowment, all donors will be recognized in the Kappa Omega Chapter History Annual, which will commemorate our chapter s 90 years of exceptional service to all mankind. Thank you for your support as we celebrate our 90 years of outstanding service. Soror Natalee Bryant, EAF Captain
