LOW GLUTEN HOSTS In my previous Parishes, there was a need for low gluten hosts. Many people are diagnosed with celiac while others are encouraged to severely limit their intake of wheat germ. For these folks receiving a low gluten host can be of great benefit. All we do is hold a small container of low gluten hosts along with the usual paten for hosts, and the person can just point to the low gluten hosts to receive from that paten. This would be available on the celebrant s line. Please let me know if anyone would like this option, and we will initiate it. ~Msgr. A Message from Cardinal Dolan As Saint Joseph s Seminary enters its 122 nd year, we are modernizing the campus with some long needed repairs. We have replaced the roof and the bell tower, updated the fire and sprinkler systems, added much needed air conditioning to the meeting spaces, and renovated the beautiful chapel. These long overdue physical improvements will enhance our nationally renowned seminary, and hopefully inspire more young men to join us. With prayerful best wishes, I am, Faithfully in Christ, Timothy Michael Cardinal Dolan This weekend we welcome to our Parish seminarian, Henry Laigaie, who will be speaking at all the Masses. Henry is in Third Theology which means, God willing, he will be ordained to the priesthood in May of 2020. Please keep Henry and all vocations in your prayers. LITURGY OF THE WORD Saint James warns us of the dangers of jealousy and selfish ambition. We see the destructive effects of these desires in the first reading when the wicked ones plot against the just one. Even the disciples fall to this temptation, arguing about who was the greatest among them. Jesus ends the argument by telling them that whoever wishes to be first must make themselves the servant of all. COFFEE & COOKIES Please join us after the 11:30 a.m. Mass on Sunday, September 30 th for friendly conversation with your friends and neighbors at St. Joseph s! We will meet outside of the main entrance to our Church. If you have any baked goods or questions, please call Ralph at (845)594-9487 or ralphm1050@aol.com Let us reflect on how we can resist jealousy and serve others as Jesus asks. Columbus Day Hike with the Pastor When: Monday October 8th, 9:30 a.m.-5:30 p.m. Where: North Point, Kaaterskill Falls Msgr. invites families and teens of all ages to a Columbus Day Hike which he has done for the last 30 years. We would leave after the 9:00 a.m. Mass and travel to North-South Lake State Park in Haines Falls. After arriving we would walk to the site of the former Catskill Mountain House, a vacation spot for several presidents, and then have lunch. The Pastor will cook hot dogs, but bring your own snacks and drinks. After lunch, those up to it can hike to North Point. Hike can take up to 3 hours depending on everyone s ability. Many opt out of this and take a leisurely walk around the 2 lakes. Before returning home, we visit Kaaterskill Falls the highest falls in New York yes, higher than Niagara but much smaller volume of water. We should be back in Kingston by 5:30 p.m. Teens coming without a parent need to fill out a permission form. Are you willing to car-pool? Please notify me at desoc@juno.com Knowing the number helps out with the purchase of the hot dogs. Come, enjoy the fall foliage! BAKING COMMITTEE At certain Parish events, it would be great to have coffee and tea and some goodies to eat. I would like to see if we could have several people volunteer to provide cookies and cakes. Someone to coordinate this group would, also, be helpful! If several people volunteer, it would not be overburdening on anyone. For example, if we had a meeting of 20, the coordinator could email everyone on the list and ask for 3 volunteers to provide enough for 6-8 people. With possibly 50 volunteers, your commitment to provide baked goods would be only 1 or 2 times a year. Please call the Rectory at (845)338-1554 if interested or email sjrc242@gmail.com 463 St. Joseph Church Page 5
