C. 28 March 2003 DISTRIBUTION STATEMENT A: Approved for public release; distribution is unlimited. NOTE THIS PUBLICATION IS EFFECTIVE UNTIL RESCINDED OR SUPERSEDED. 1. Priority Classification. Urgent 2. Summary NOTE MACOM Commanders may authorize temporary exception from message requirements in accordance with AR 95--1, Chapter 6. Exception may only occur when combat operations or matter of life or death in civil disasters or other emergencies are so urgent that they override the consequences of continued aircraft operation. a. Background -- Application of MWO 55-1520-240-50-43replaced three piece engine drive shaft, P/N 145D3500-15, with a one piece engine drive shaft, P/N 145D3504-2. At that time an interim retirement life of 2000 hours was established. The interim retirement life was to remain in effect until fatigue testing was conducted and verified. Based on fatigue test results, the retirement life of P/N 145D3504-2 can safely be increased to 6000 hours for all but 49 of these shafts. These 49 shafts were flown on certain aircraft during a specific time frame which cannot allow their retirement lives to be increased. These 49 specific serial numbered shafts will remain at the 2000 hour retirement life. b. Message Purpose -- Increase the retirement life of all but 49 specific serial numbered engine drive shafts from 2000 hours to 6000 hours. 3. End Items Affected. All H--47 series aircraft. 4. Assemblies/Components/Parts Affected NOMENCLATURE PART NUMBER NATIONAL STOCK NUMBER Engine Drive Shaft 145D3504-2 3010-01-316-2661 This TB supersedes USAAMCOM Message 251331Z MAR 03 CH-47--03--ASAM-01. 1

TB 1--1520--240--20--151 5. Initial TAMMS (The Army Maintenance Management System) Compliance Requirements. a. Upon receipt of this message, make the following entry on the DA Form 2408-13-1. Enter a Red Horizontal Dash //--// status symbol with the following statement: Comply with requirements of CH-47-03-ASAM-01 no later than 25 April 2003. NOTE The TAMMS compliance reporting form is available at www.redstone.army.mil/sof/tamms.xls <http://www.redstone.army.mil/sof/tamms.xls> (use lower case leters only) or may be obtained from the units servicing LAR. Alternate forms may be approved by the AMCOM SOF Compliance Officer. NOTE The TAMMS Compliance Report only confirms the unit has made the initial logbook entry for assigned aircraft. TAMMS Compliance Reports will include aircraft serial numbers (in numerical order), date of entry on DA Form 2408-13-1, unit address, local POC name and phone number. b. TAMMS Compliance Report -- Submit TAMMS Compliance Report via priority email to safeadm@redstone.army.mil <mailto:safeadm@redstone.army.mil> no later than 1 APR 03 in accordance with AR 95-1. If email is not availale, the report may be faxed to: SOF Compliance Officer at DSN 897-2111 or (256) 313-2111. 6. Task/Inspection Compliance Requirements. a. Aircraft -- Submit Task/Inspection Compliance Report for this message to Logistic point of contact no later than 25 April 2003. b. Retail Stock (Installation level and below) -- N/A. c. Wholesale stock (Including Depot stock, Depot Maintenance and Single Stock Fund) -- N/A. 7. Special Provisions to Message Requirements (Aircraft). -- N/A. 8. Technical Procedures/Instructions a. Conduct a records check (Aircraft Time change DA Form 2408-16) to determine the serial number of each engine drive shaft, P/N 145D3504-2. b. The retirement life for the following serial numbered drive shafts shall remain at the current published life of 2000 hours. The serial numbers are as follows: A--103, A--107, A--193, A--211, A--230, A--243, A--262, A--276, A--280, A--287, A--309, A--327, a--330, A--352, A--385, A--453, A--474, A--501, A--504, A--506, A--517, A--526, A--536, A--538, A--571, A--596, A--612, A--617, A--636, A--638, A--651, A--652, A--675, A--691, A--696, A--704, A--709, A--731, A--741, A--771, A--778, A--792, A--799, A--908, A--921, A--960, A--1200, A--2343, A--11767BK. c. For engine drive shafts which have serial numbers not noted in paragraph 8a above, the retirement life shall be increased to 6000 hours. Update DA Form 2408-16 Block 6j to indicate the new 6000 retirement life and recalculate the Replacement Due hours in Block 6k. d. ULLS--A units will use this message as authority to update the Component Master File to reflect the Engine Drive Shaft new MAOT. Direct all ULLS--A questions to point of contact in paragraph 14e. e. ULLS--A units shall modify the current configuration code line entry for the drive shafts to reflect the new 6000 hour MAOT. f. ULLS--A units that have drive shafts with serial numbers listed in paragraph 8b will make a new line entry using a new configuration code of 53 with all the current information to track the 2000 hour MAOT shafts. g. Clear the initial entry from paragraph 5a and note compliance on Engine Drive Shaft DA Form 2408-5-1. 2

Annotate the serviceability tag with: CH-47-03-ASAM-01, Engine Drive Shaft, not complied with. Do not remove original condition tags. a. Items in Retail Stock -- N/A. b. Items in Single Stock Fund and in Work (Overhaul/Repair Facility) -- N/A. c. Depot, unit and other maintenance activity commanders will ensure items listed in paragraph 4 are not issued until they are in compliance with this message. d. Items in Wholesale Stock -- N/A. 10. Special Tools and Fixtures Required -- N/A. 11. Supply/Parts (Requisition/Distribution).-- N/A. 12. Maintenance Application. a. Category of Maintenance -- AVUM. b.
