MEDICO-LEGAL EXPERIENCE MEDICAL REPORT-WRITING EXPERIENCE I have extensive experience of writing a range of reports at specialist registrar, and consultant level. This has included the following type of report: Medico-legal reports (for crown and magistrate s court), covering issues such as: Fitness to plead Mental health disposals (including Hospital Orders, Restriction Orders, and Hybrid Orders) Mental health defences (including Not guilty by Reason of Insanity and Diminished Responsibility) Capacity to form intent Defendants apparent mental state at the time of offences Care Programme Approach medical reports. Mental Health Review Tribunal reports. Reports for the Ministry of Justice (such as Annual Statutory Reports and leave reports) These assessments have been undertaken for patients in a variety of settings, including: Men s low, and medium security forensic psychiatric units Women s medium secure unit. High secure hospital (Broadmoor) Therapeutic Community Court Diversion Prisons (men and women) Young Offenders Institutes (HMYOI Feltham) Immigration Centres Patients in the community EXPERT WITNESS EXPERIENCE My experience of giving evidence in court as an expert witness includes: Psychiatric defences (including Diminished Responsibility in a murder trial at the Old Bailey) Psychiatric disposals (including a Hybrid Order) I have also given evidence in the following situations on several occasions: Mental Health Review Tribunals and Managers Hearings In addition, I have observed several Consultant Forensic Psychiatrists give evidence in criminal, civil, and family courts, and had 1:1 tutorials to solidify learning points about their cases, their evidence and their reports. 4
