We have an open door policy and encourage you to chat with us. Pam Bondfield, Chris Lemon and I are here most days, including the weekends. HEALTH & LEISURE REPORT Health & Leisure Team Front: Kate, Richard, Odile & Leanne Back: Kate, Adrian, Michael & Tracey (Left to Right) Hello everybody and welcome to a special Christmas edition of the Jindajabber. We had a very busy month during November with the Melbourne Cup, a trip to Goulburn, the Remembrance Day service and a morning tea for our Volunteers, just to name a few. At Jindalee we are getting into the Christmas spirit by decorating all the wings and entry areas. We also have many Christmas activities scheduled including 2 Christmas Light bus tours on Tuesday 12th & Wednesday 13th December and many musical performances and school choirs attending over December. We also have the Christmas parties happening over 3 days Tuesday 19th (A,B,C & D),Wednesday 20th (H & J) & Thursday 21st (G & F). Relatives are welcome to attend but bookings must be made at reception or you may contact Richard Cummins (Health & Leisure Coordinator) before Friday the 15th December. The Health & Leisure team would like to wish everybody a Happy Christmas and blessings for 2018. Kind Regards, Richard, Kate, Leanne, Michael, Adrian, Tracey, Odile & Kate Page 3

MONTHS IN REVIEW Volunteers Morning Tea We organize a special morning tea each year as a small token of thanks to all the volunteers that come to Jindalee. We have many volunteers including musical groups, church groups, Red Cross & Pet Therapy just to name a few. Without your help we would not be able to provide such a full and exciting Health & Leisure program. Page 4

Melbourne Cup Celebrations Melbourne Cup is always a special day at Jindalee. We have residents and staff put on their formal clothes and celebrate the Melbourne Cup. We have sweeps that staff and residents take part in and always watch the race on the big screen. With lots of yummy food and champagne flowing it was a great day had by all! Page 5

Remembrance Day Service Every year we have a Remembrance Day service outside by the flagpole. At this service we pay homage to all service people who were in the armed forces who died or suffered in wars and armed conflicts. After the service we had a get together and a morning tea. Australian Rugby Choir Every year the Australian Rugby Choir put on a special recital for Nursing Home residents. The performance was held at the Southern Cross Club in Woden. It is always a well attended event, needing 2 buses for Jindalee residents and staff to get there. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed the performance. Page 6

Bus Outing to Goulburn This year we decided to do a bus day tour to Goulburn. We hired a 50 seat bus. The day included a morning tea, having a bus tour around the Goulburn area and then having lunch at the Soldiers Club. Some resident s family members came along also. It was a busy day and such an enjoyable outing while checking out the sites of Goulburn. Page 7

PRAISE AND COMPLAINTS BY RESIDENTS OR THEIR RELATIVES At Jindalee Aged Care Residence, we aim to provide the highest quality of care to our residents. To assist us to continually improve our service, we welcome feedback and suggestions for improvement from residents and their relatives. Suggestions are considered by the staff at the Resident s Care Committee Meeting where they are discussed. We investigate all complaints and aim to resolve issues quickly and effectively. Praise and concerns can be informal or formal, and anonymous if that is your desire. Most issues can be dealt with informally. If you have an issue please ask to speak to the person in charge of the wing. The issue may easily be dealt with in a simple conversation. Jindalee has a Praise and Complaint Form that is available, providing a more formal method of offering praise or concern. There is an option of remaining anonymous however it is difficult to give feedback if we do not know who is raising the concern. Once a Praise and Complaint Form has been completed, it can be handed to the nurse, placed in the suggestion box in the foyer or posted to Jindalee. The Director of Nursing (DON) or delegates review all the forms. They investigate the cause of the concern, with a focus on whether Jindalee s Policy and Procedures are contributing factors and takes appropriate action to rectify any issues. Feedback is then available to the complainant (if not anonymous). All completed forms are kept in a folder in the Educator s Office.
